Old Skin Purge

Like a lot of people here, I have every skin downloaded by LFS since I first played the game.

Although it's good to have as many skins that are in use local on your hard drive in case they're needed. I must have so many that are old and will never be used again, they may not even be on LFSW anymore.

What about a system where LFS checks once a month if all of the skins are on LFSW or not, if they're not, they are deleted (or if not deleted, sent to a compressed folder or something). This would free up tons of space on many hard drives around the world.

basically a car is not going to be green full stop. I think it would be better to find alternatives to cars than design new and better 'green' ones that need more energy to build in the firstlplace.

Also just wondered if your car us typically the same weight for most of your journey's Solar? Taking a big group of American's to lunch will certainly weigh the car down enough to affect the ratio.

interested to know whay noone else on the server was talking about why the pink car was doing that, pherhaps they couldn't see it at the time - which would mean that the car was invisible to them, which brings up more questions.

Invisible car hack? Interesting idea..!

Quite a nice hole, fully furnished, lots of worms etc. You're welcome to stop by sometime.

But seriosuly, I have not actually races 31 other people yet, that's all, never managed to get on a server with that many. I just wanted to be sure it existed and not just a red herring.

so, can someone verify if KYoval Rev can have 32 drivers on track?
20 or 32 players

Patch X is meant to allow 32 drivers on track, but most of the tracks still seem to report 20 drivers on Single player mode. Has anyone actually played with 31 other drivers on a server yet?

I'm getting this exact same thing Blackout, it's gets really bad during the race especially when the server is busy and people leaving and joing regularly.
Stutter when someone join/leaves
russraine

Hi all.

Upgraded to patch X and the small stutter that normally happend when someone joins/leaves the server is now very long indeed, before it was just a fraction of a second on average, it's now lasting nearly half a second, makes it so easy to crash.

Before anyone asks if my pc is too slow, it worked fine before patch X

Well if you're only going to allow a select few on your server why did you bother to set it up for the maximum slot usage?

Hey Solar - just wondered - if you could go back in time, would you still buy the Prius or not?

Couple of similar issues.

When logging onto a server with hires skins enables but you have no credit and there is a lot of cars on track and new skins to download, lots of messages about no credit, this caused big lag for me and others on server. Now obviously people with no credit shouldn't have hi res skins enabled, but, say they only have enough credit for two skins and don't realise when they log on, they get the first two skins but then it gets laggy while it's checking if you can afford each skin or not.

Also it's possible that someone doesn't know they have it enabled until they log on, causes uneeded lag.

My ideal solution would be that if you can't afford the first skin it doesn't keep checking if you can with every skin, but to not check for any more until the next time you run LFS.

Now after switching hi res skins off I get this.

Second problem was that the general time it takes to check for skins seems to have increased, the usual pause when someone leaves the pits and the game checks to see if you have their skin or not is longer than before and in my opinon causes problem.

Simple, ditch the AI cars until the point comes when they are proper intelligent racers.

Quote from Scawen :I've been trying to understand what could have changed.

I cannot find any reference at all in the old code, that a replay was saved when you went to the garage.

I've also loaded the old patch W and driven around a bit, then gone to the garage... as expected, no replay was auto saved. So I'm confused, I can't reproduce what you said it used to do. I've only tried in patch W.

What I've thought it always did (if auto save is on) is : save the replay if you restart or exit. I've never heard of it saving when you went to the pits or garage, until you told me that's what it used to do. Which version can you reproduce that in, and what method did you use to go to the pits?

Hi.

Well it was on all LFS versions up to now basically, after doing some hotlapping I'd pull over, press the escape button and click to go to garage and it would auto save (with the message at the top). I don't think I imagined it for all this time, but you're making me worried now, I do hotlapping all the time for OLFSL and am sure I haven't been pressing 1 all this time

If anyone else is running older LFS versions can you test this.

I guess having autosave to be able to do this on garage would be helpful too, if, I am imaginging it all this time.

Quote from Scawen :I don't think I ever knew that hotlaps were saved if you went into the garage. Maybe that was a bug. I guess it would be an ok option though, if replay saving is set to fully auto save - saved under the same conditions as when a replay is saved if you restart race? I guess that's what you mean?

I wonder if the auto saving condition is correct? Maybe it should only auto save replays if at least one lap is completed, or maybe if a race is completed (if it's a race) or one hot lap is completed (if it's a hotlap).

I'm just trying to think how to prevent every quick restart being saved as a replay. Though I say this without even looking at the existing conditions for auto save - it's a long time since I've thought about that.

Thanks for getting back Scawen.

Yes since I've been playing LFS I haven't really bothered to press 1 or 2 to save as auto save always kicked in when I went to garage or left the server, this is now not working still on latest patch and autosave enabled on both single and multi (although I've only tested this on hotlaps at the moment).

I think pherhaps, what would be good, is if you are leaving the server (multi) or track (single) then a box would come up saying "The current replay is not saved, would you like to save it YES or NO"? This box could be turned on by default but turned off in the menus for the guys who will obviously complain about a box popping up when they are leaving.

Or of course the auto save system just auto saving whenever a 'event' occurs. By event I mean, Garage, Leave Server, Lag Out etc would be good also.

Problem with Auto Save and Hotlapping.

When I finished hotlapping, I used to press Esc and quit to the garage. It used to save my hotlap. Now it does not, it says Not Recording in the top right corner. This is bit frustrating as I'm used to doing this, I know I should press 1 to save, but as quitting to the garage always worked for me before this is bit getting used to.

Don't know if Scawen remembers me having a graphics problem with LFS - the whole games gfx would go wrong, the menus would all be white and the tracks and cars have no textures or rendering etc.

Well it still happens every now and then, say once a month, but usually happens when using Alt Tab and Shift and F4 a lot in one LFS session.
bug report

Reporting a bug with latest test patch (w23 not w24), happend twice but when tried to replicate for 3rd time to get picture, it not happening anymore.

When loading XFGti on Blackwood Rev - the driver model was not right. The driver was standing up in the car and his chest and head were out of the roof, this was visable from all angles, also in car view was not selectable with the letter V as usual, it appeared from the drivers heads perspective, who was out of the car.

Will grab picture if happens again.

Ian H, you stupid dick!

No you're right I'm not a coder, I am an Author. So I know about creating something and either giving it to people to use for free or charge for it.

If I wrote a book that people could read for free and they asked, how did I write it, what was my inspiration, I wouldn't say: Sorry but that's my last book, I'm not going to tell you anything, now sod off and write your own book. That would be selfish.

I suppose the only thing you write apart from shit forum posts are love letters to your horny grandma, am I right or am I right?

If I did happen to create a freeware app, I would actually release the source code if I were stopping development, as a program without someone to develop it is useless, what sort of legacy is that.

Hell why don't the LFS coders do the same, stop development and leave us with a unfinished game to play, everyone, Ian H is saying that would be a good thing for them to do, what a wanker! I wish I had a time machine so that I could go back in time and drown you in some Scottish lake.

Very best wishes

Johnathan!

I think stats is a great app, and obviously deciding not to update it is your choice. But as it is free anyway, not releasing the code seems quite selfish as so many people rely on that software and to just close it and hide it away, well, doesn't seem part of the LFS ethic. Other people could continue your hard work, but you don't want them to, either it is just plain selfishness or you are afraid it will be improved upon I assume.
