Every time one of these discussions goes into value for money territory all the negative comments always neglect to take into consideration "time already served".
Most games tend to be "you get what you pay for". You spend X amount of money on a CD/DVD. LFS is much more of an evolutionary experience. I have had S2 for just over 2 years now and when the time comes I will be more than happy to spend an additional £12 (or whatever it is) for more content.
It is my personal belief that Rockingham + the mystery new car will not be the only content released over the course of time under the S3 license. The developmental history of this game indicates you get more for your money as time goes on.
If some of you do not think that what has definitely been announced for S3 justifies the cost, then just wait to see if more content is added over time and then perhaps in 2011 you will think it is worth the cost.
An extreme example: If this goes on for years and years (and years and years) then there may be a time when I have spent £100 on LFS. After you factor in that that £100 has been spent over 15-20 years the cost becomes negligible.
I would rather get in at the ground floor and enjoy the whole ride, but to each their own.
What you have been told is correct. The new tyre physics will be given to absolutely everybody including demo users. The VW will be given to S1 or S2 licence holders (I can't remember which) and Rockingham+a new currently unspecified car will be the initial content for a S3 license.
I have always thought we should stop using the word track and start using the word environment or location. Rockingham will provide 5? "Tracks" without taking into account a reverse option.
All the people who have complained that it would be unfair if you did not have ABS and racing against people that are using it... you do realise that there is a decent chance that during the whole test patching process you have already been racing people that have been using Z3 and above. Z3 was quite a long time ago now.
It doesn't fix your problem but I'm sure I read somewhere that LFS isn't particularly alt+tab friendly sometimes and is recommended to use shift+f4 to get quick desktop access.
Think he was being completely genuine. I think Joseph saw something in the post which wasn't there.
Question regarding driver name in mirror
What changed? Or did you do nothing specific but it is a consequence of something else. I thought it was something to do with the new mirror LOD but playing around with that doesn't seem to affect it.
Forget about it, it's not helping this thread. If the guy gets busted/reprimanded that's between him and the moderator that does it.
Dragging up various posts to support whether it should or should not be done in this thread is daft. Make a new thread in general discussion or something.
Scawen took it down anyway so it seems you can link offsite but cannot actually display the image directly within the forum. Case closed.
I know, I was just being an arse. It's still funny, along the lines of a demo user asking for BF1 sets.
Anyway I feel I have slipped into the age-old habit of having a conversation in this thread rather than contributing so I will await further questions from Scawen or other input I can offer.
yes yes, perhaps I was the only one that found it funny
come back with the same problem when you haven't screwed around with the vob's and posted a picture of it in violation of the forum rules... then we'll talk heh
no, he is right, they need to be still linked together. The third bar keeps dropping out causing the others to go through the roof? You know immediately it is the third person on the connection list. It's amazing how many players don't even know what it is, on our servers we had somebody thinking it was a graphic equaliser because they were playing MP3s in the background...
I don't really care how the game does it internally, no. As long as it gets its alphabetical freak on before it's on my screen I'll be happy.
On similar lines, it would order by driver name or account name? Surely driver name as that's what everybody sees without further keypresses (ctrl+shift). It would also mean that members of the same team with the same driver naming structure, tags etc, will be grouped together which would be nice.
Do you not misunderstand slightly? We are solely talking about the connection list, (with kick/ban/ss/etc) not the race order list. Having the connection list rearranging itself every time somebody overtakes somebody else (which I think is what you are suggesting?) I imagine would be a nightmare.
I also imagine it would be more work. Currently the list will only update itself and data be sent backwards and forwards when somebody joins/disconnects. I would not like it to be "live"
The connection list has no bearing on people's position during a race.
That would be great if it doesn't break anything. Something visually superficial but at the same time incredibly useful. You see someone visually on a server with 30 connections causing a problem and it can be frustrating finding them on the list as quickly as possible.
+1 for alphabetical sorting (this combined with the ability to click on the map would be admin heaven lol)
I've never understood why people jump around on the list? For example if I join and I am at the bottom, after somebody else joining and a couple of other people disconnecting and suddenly I could be forth from the top.
I am one of the disabled users of LFS and couldn't play the game without mouse support.
From my experience I would not want the mouse cursor to be visible any more than it already is while driving. I personally find it difficult to drive with the connection list visible, I find the cursor very distracting with my eyes automatically want to follow it rather than pay attention to the in-cockpit steering wheel or the steering gauge when I am in an external view.
I don't really know what solution there can be to keeping a mouse out of the way when you are driving/not showing connection list but then being able to click on the mini map without the connection list.
I would keep it as it is.
Obviously this is a selfish opinion but I think the wishes of people that use the mouse while driving should take preference. I too admin, and I understand the problem with the list going over the map. Currently I am using the new click on the map feature to jump to hotspots rather than specific cars then I can tab backwards or forwards just a few cars to find the troublemaker.
Obviously as a mouse driver I cannot drive and Admin at the same time. I really do understand why people that use a wheel and have admin rights would drive with the connection list open in order to deal with somebody as they are going along. I hope those people understand why having the cursor visible even when the connection list is not could be a problem for some users.
lol @ your signature as well. I have been using the full version of Windows 7 ultimate x64 for a couple of months since it RTM'd. It's nothing to brag about, make a thread somewhere else and see whether you get any pats on the back, I speculate not.
120,000 ky1/bf1 laps is 357,600km or 35.76% [/Pedantic git]
As a more general point not necessarily relating to the person... I would not put too much weight into the fact he does not have the WR. That would mean spending time alone hotlapping rather than racing other people which is essentially why we are here.
Besides, when it comes to the majority of oval combination, Plaztik has most of those sewn up.
Any complaints about having to pay a bit more money are completely ridiculous. In my opinion we should regard ourselves fortunate that the VW is coming free to current licence holders.
S3 has to start somewhere and it needs some content to be in it. Paying a little bit more money to start the S3 ball rolling and getting Rockingham as well as this mysterious new car I think is a good start. Later on I am sure S3 will grow with additional content which will be free to S3 licence holders.
It's just a cycle of progression. I'm sure there were a few S1 licence holders that were annoyed when S2 content appeared. It's called progress.
