I happen to agree with what wsinda said. I'm only in my 20s but have very slight tinnitus in my right ear. When I was 18-22 I was regularly in nightclubs so loud they left my ears ringing the next morning. And I often mucked around amateur DJing - with proper, powerful DJ headphones. A couple of years ago I went to a few gigs of a band that a friend knows, and then I realised the ringing wasn't going away this time.
I've learnt to filter it out now, but if it's quiet I can "tune in" to the ringing in my ear, and it was pretty depressing when I first realised it had happened, and realised I could never experience true silence again.
Protectng your hearing is about enjoying life. The rest of your life, not spending a few gigs too close to a dangerously loud speaker.
Your post only shows you to be the same as what I used to be - ignorant and immature with regards to the abuse you put your ears through.
In your cfg.txt there is the line "MPR Message Block 0".
Changing this to "MPR Message Block 1" should remove all chat messages from being displayed in multiplayer replays. I think. Never used it myself. Might be the same process as what bbman says to do.
Doh! Yes, you're right - of course I do have spark plugs. Don't know what I was thinking by saying I didn't have any - I guess what I meant was I don't have a distributor, and I can't see my spark plugs. I was picturing my engine and only thought of the coil packs, under which the spark plugs are buried.
Now I'm confused. Do the sparkplugs not sit on top of the engine block in that engine? Or is the entire engine tipped over at an angle?
Just that in my engine bay, the only thing around or underneath the coil packs (I don't have spark plugs) is the engine block itself. Any smoke coming from the oil filter would be obvious, because it's about two feet away from the coil packs.
I presume a leaking oil filter doesn't explain the draining battery, though.
...but it's my first "G" lens, bought at over £150 less than usual high street price, so I'm rather pleased. Looking forward to using it as the days get longer and brighter. Hope to take it to Croft circuit this year, too.
And taken yesterday, but 0 out of 10 for originality I'm afraid...
My dad's into his trains, so I can answer this one - MSTS was well received in it's day, but is poorly designed and poorly supported. It was released in 2001, which to put it into perspective, pre-dates WindowsXP & DirectX 8.1. However it has a huge community around it, with literally thousands of add-ons and extra locos, rolling stock, etc.
MSTS2 is in the pipeline based on the FSX engine and looks to be a few dozen lightyears ahead of MSTS (which it bloody needs to be). MSTS2 is due out at the end of 2009, and much like FSX, you'll need a serious computer to make the most of it.
Coming from somebody who as a general rule hates HDR, I must say: lovely HDR shots! So rare to see them well done and not overblown to the point of redicule. I'm mainly talking about the 4th and 6th images here, which would make for interesting scenes without the HDR.
Pfft, you guys should try using the Minolta/Sony design/ergonomics. Once you're used to their logic which has less to do with Canikon than Canon or Nikon do with each other, all Canons and Nikons feel as though they were designed on the day the design dept was at the pub.
It should run it, but the CPU is the weak point. Dual cores need to be as fast as possible for GTA4 as the theory is that it's trying to condense the 3+ threads of the Xbox/PS3 into two for the Core2Duos. If you specifically want it to play GTA4, I'd suggest spending the same amount on a quad-core desktop.
True, but GTA isn't an FPS game - mine drops to (I guess) ~25fps when it needs to do rain, reflections and bloom all at once, and benchmarks at ~45fps. It's fine for a game like GTA. I'm sure some of the n00b whingers just want to stare at the purdy graphics and grow their e-penis by having them better than everyone else's, rather than just play the damn game.
Lmao. If you haven't a clue what you're talking about, please, spare us your posts in the first place.
Exactly. Big places like IGN and GTAF are filled with n00bs screaming for Rockstar's blood. Now while there are undoubtedly issues with the game, I've seen so many cases where some n00b angrily calls it a heap of shit because it won't install.... then it's discovered he hasn't got SP3 for XP. Or people who are furious that their high end rig doesn't run it with all the sliders maxed out, even though with the sliders on 2/3rds it's massively prettier than the console versions (the GTA version of the MetLife building is so appropriate here). Or the people who complain that they're "only" getting 50-60 fps, which clearly means the game is shit cos they can get 3,278,425 fps in Crysis.
To all of them, I simply say: f*ck off, buy a console!
Those kind of posts in this topic are so narrow-minded that they've spectacularly failed to take into consideration the fact that for the vast, vast majority of people, they want to get from A to B in comfort and safety in a reasonable time. They do not drive for pleasure, and do not take pleasure from having to drive.
Even hinting that things could be better without ABS is delusional - and that's coming from someone for whom the ABS cuts in woefully early on their car.
I know, but I think the blur filter is awful. I'd rather have jaggies and a crisp screen than having everything look like I'm wearing the wrong glasses.
Thanks devs for a sweet-looking car. I've been looking at the model in the CMX viewer and the detail is superb. You switch between the VWS and the RB4 in the viewer, and you wonder whether it's part of the same game. The FBM was good, but it appears the VWS sets a new standard of modelling (but hopefully one that isn't excessively hungry on the polys or frame rates).
Exactly. Although I don't understand the technical aspects of it, GTA4 uses a lighting system that can't be used with AA under DX9. The quote in that interview is a huge simplification of issue - one that has all the n00blets at gtaf going "omfg R* u suk dik fuk u + die".
Sometimes I wonder whether these aforementioned people actually want to play the game, or just sit and stare at their screen. yes, the jaggies with no AA are unwelcome. Yes, the shadows look crap. But I'm still playing it, and enjoying it.
Oh I'm not saying it hasn't got issues. I'm saying the freeloading scum don't have any right to throw a hissy fit about the problems.
However, when you look at the fan forums it quickly becomes clear that although there are genuine problems, they're mixed in with a hell of a lot of n00bs who are bitching and crying just because their £3000 uber-gaming rig can't run it with all the graphics options maxed out. I've seen people saying the performance is shit, but then I see them posting elsewhere that they're getting 30+ fps, and they'd probably be getting a lot more if they they weren't trying to run it at settings way in excess of what Rockstar suggests.
Rockstar screwed up, yes - the release has been something of a disaster. But the volatile (and plain abusive, hostile) reaction they've received is also down to ignorant, impatient n00bs on forums with unrealistic expectations with regards to graphical performance.
There is no official forum. The closest that I'm aware of is gtaforums.com, where Rockstar Toronto are directly responding to people's problems and investigating where appropriate.
My sentiments are the same. Fortunately, Rockstar is listening to the feedback from forums and has already added support for DXInput controllers in the next patch, so any controller can be used. The first patch is ready and done, and is with Microsoft for certification due to GTA4 being a GFWL title (yes, if it wasn't for MS, the patch would've been out already). This first patch basically includes all the work they've done on the game since it went gold a few weeks ago, so although it probably doesn't address the problems that have become apparent since it was released, it will include all the refinements and improvements coded in the last few weeks.
