I think for spectators / commentators of a race it would be good information on why someone is falling back, not sure if color-coding it would give away too much from a strategy point of view. But unless it's an endurance race I think having the severity displayed is not a disadvantage.
Regarding pit-stops, I think it's the same. Races long-enough to actually do pit-stops (refuelling, tires...) are usually a league thing. If you damage the engine during the typical 5 lap sprints it doesn't matter as the time loss with "limping on" is smaller than any kind of pit stop. In terms of longer races it would be nice to be able to fix "some engine damage" as it would keep the driver / team motivated to continue. You get a penalty, but still have some kind of chance on a decent result (this is a game afterall).
What would also be helpful (and that is for suspension damage as well) is a repair-time estimate in the F12 menu.
Regarding the night image of Fern Bay I was actually wondering if the whole track would be illuminated or just parts of it. It would be cool if the tracks were different in that regard (or via setting ingame?). I mean the Nordschleife is only partially lit, while Singapur (F1) is the opposite.
Or maybe Scawen / Eric could shed some light on this matter?
After thinking sbout it I'd prefer a split approach. One kind of locked update thread and one discussion thread. That would make it easier to get an update on current lfs developments (pun intended) while also allow for some hopefully sensible discussion.
Not sure how sensible this would be overall, maybe it would just be easier to to copy development relevant posts to the locked thread later on (by moderator?). Sometimes it's very hard to keep track on the relevant stuff and searching for Scawen's posts in the forum kinda feels like stalking sometimes
However, I fear the kind of moderation of this thread would require given previous threads of a similar kind.
Maybe a bit of a stupid question and late to the party, but since there are now clickable links for Twitch and Youtube... In the example above one of the banners has a discord link. Could / should this be added as clickable link too?
Some quick thoughts
* What happens when I start LFS without internet connection? I guess the whole left side would not be displayed?
* When displaying the start time, I think the main menu should also display the current time somewhere (for lazy people like me)
* Upcoming multiplayer events (nitpicking)
EDIT: does anyone see a danger that new players might think there is no pick-up racing and that they need to wait for events to race online?
* I'm liking the last design very much, but with the ability to do custom backgrounds should the text area have some kind of background?
* Would filters be a good idea? If I have to sign up for a league, or there are no open spots then there would be no need to display it. Unless I'm already signed up for this.
This brings me to my next thought (and probably way beyond the original intention)
I think it would be helpfull if the sign-up process for leagues where to be managed over the lfs sites a bit more.
Currently a league has a sub-forum where all this is done per hand.
If the league section were to be expanded to handle sign-ups then it would help organising / managing the event and automatic reminders/notifications (even in-game)/leaderboards and all sorts of other stuff would be possible to do as well. Maybe even expand the statistics section of LFS World to included "raced leagues, results...)
I know this is far beyond the current scope but somehow related and probably something that needs a lot more thinking down the line.

Reason : added general question
Lap 5 needs some reviewing from my point.
* Hairpin into oval section, my fault.
* Hairpin out of the oval section, got a nice bump from behind
* xpablousky's crash, sorry but I had the corner (and held the line). the contact was unlucky.
But as usual, someone less biased than me should have a look
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Must be some good stuff when even a teaser (report) gets teased.
Also if the webservers need to be upgraded... expecting more load soon?
However I have come to fear the word "soon" within the context of LFS
So far "soon" covers a timespan starting from 2009. But that is probably something that bugs Scavier as much as the rest of us.
This is surely a sad day for everyone that knew him personally. I fondly remember those meetings (LFS and T7R) and the fun, laughs and beers we shared, as well as the long chats we had via MSN.
I'm glad to got to know him and call him my team mate @T7R and also friend.
As tires will have a larger (performance) impact on (league) racing. I think it would be great if available tire options (for each car) could be managed via the server, something like /car=xfg tire=r1,r3 (so only r1 and r3 available for the xfg).
Scratchmarkings on barriers (similar to skidmarks on tarmac) would be a cool addition at a later point (and maybe even not that difficult, given that contact can already be detected). Not sure if colored markings (car skins) are possible but that would be the cherry on top
Spectators are not really visible once the racing gets going other than in packed grandstands and on the side. I suspect that this is also one of the easier additions to do that can be done later as it doesn't invalidate / change anything related to the actual track layout. Given that the current spectator models are dated I suspect that at some point they will probably be updated as well.
I'd be interested to hear Eric's thoughts on "environment is too clean" and in general, as track and now apparently city planning(!) is his work.
It would be cool to see some actual editor screenshots as well.
On a different note I still have to say SC looks a bit abandoned / too clean. No people, no grafity, evening / night shots feature black windows making it look like nobody is living there. And everything looks brand new.
It might not be a high priority at this point or may not be even an issue at all when racing, but it's a bit of a weird contrast to having position lights on wind turbines and moving (illuminated) clock handles.
The only possibility I can see would be heavy moderation. All threads / content would have to be reviewed by a moderator before it would go public. At least that would introduce some kind of checking.
But generally this is something where clear rules of what can be posted here / what is allowed are needed and those need to be respected by the modders. Post the stuff that meets the requirements here and the other stuff can be found as it is now.
edit:
Would it be possible to have some kind of terms of agreement for new threads in that section?
So you have to manually click a checkbox before you can upload your content.
Anyway, as already mentioned above, some legal advise might be useful here.
