Quote from geeman1 :The analog speedometer is pretty useless now for me. The digits are just so small. I just can make out what the numebrs say when I am stopped and usign a 'slow' car with fewer numbers, but at racing speeds and fast cars it's impossible to tell what speed I am travelling.

When I'm racing, I don't really care at what speed I'm going. The main goal is to be faster than the others

It looks good but why are you almost all all doing layouts with almost only with barriers ? Don't you want to use cones ? I think a layout is better when you need to take care of the penalties.

Quote from wheeler :Too bad I need a 22meg install of .NET Framework to get it work. Why did you make a .MSI of it? I think it's not working on anything except Windows XP?

I will give it a go, test it and let u know.

an msi file can be installed in all windows versions since win98 assuming you have previously installed Windows Installer (msiexec.exe) which is available on microsoft website. It's the MS standard.

Quote from sinbad :The LFS devs don't condone any sort of new 3rd party extra content or mods that alter the shape of cars/tracks, so I'd expect any thread on how/if you can do that (if you figure it out) to be closed immediately.

I don't think they ever say anything about this. They are probably not open to track moders yet because the game is still in development. That doesn't mean they won't condone such things.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the game do some sum check (with at least 2 different algorithms) to make sure the files are the original ones. I'm pretty sure the game won't allow you to load a third party file. That would need a modified .exe with new values and would add another problem when playing offline.

I think vagos21 should continue to work on this tool. It could be helpful for the future when S3 will be released and third party tracks accepted. He could also help people doing tracks or cars that could be officially licensed by the LiveForSpeed team for inclusion in the game, who knows. It would be good to see an official statement about wether the LFS team would be open to third party content as long as they are legal. I know about a few prototype cars builders who could be open to some sort of agreement between the LFS team and them like what has been done for the inclusion of the Raceabout and the MRT5 in the game.

Quote from tristancliffe :Certainly can. All you do is make it RWD and give it more power, and you're away

narrow minded. A real driver don't need this

I like all of them, RWD, FWD and AWD. Real drivers don't care imho.

Quote from Bob Smith :
Obviously FWDs are a different story, but then you don't actually want to race them do you?

why not, a fwd car can be really fun to drive.

Quote from Mikjen :what track u made it on m8
Cant see the video, but i can hear it (Black screen)

Mick

It's encoded with Xvid. You need the Xvid codec (other mpeg4 compliant codecs such as DivX or ffmpeg should do the trick though).

No comments ? I'd like to know what you think about it in order to do better layouts.

I still love them and race them, but I think all S1 cars should have access to the racing tires. They are simply not competitive anymore.

Quote from colcob :No. Definitely not safe for release. It would certainly turn the endurance leagues into a frenzy of paranoia about whether other people were secretly running 110-120% stints to give themselves the edge.
.

In what kind of leagues are you racing ?

My first layout, it's quite tricky but I checked, it can be finished with all cars without a single penalty (including the FO8!).

No screenshot but a 10MB video teaser

Quote from xaotik :That would recquire reading .lyt files and I don't think those are documented somewhere currently.

I just checked, they aren't

Quote from LuckyL :Tomi:

I dont think i can do that, sorry. It's because, as far as i now, the track layout of Autocross tracks is not in smx files. And that's where the spectator takes the tracks from.

But don't you think it would be possible to just allow the viewers to load the layout file manually ? I mean, LFS Spectator would load both the smx and layout files and would overlay the corresponding objects over the track map using sprites or signs such as dots, X and circles, whatever, as long as viewers can figure the layout. English isn't my mother tongue, I don't know if I explain it well enough.

Great tool Lucky L

One question though : Does it support autocross layouts and if it does not, do you plan to add the layouts + penalties (when hitting a cone or tire) support in the future ?

I'm racing in a slalom championship and it would be a great tool for us
