no the corner is taken slower. It allow them a better speed in the following fast section, that's all. Slow in, Fast out. Even in track racing, it is often faster to take a corner slightly slower if it allow for a better exit. It also depends of the power curve and shifting ratios.
I also forgot to add that in the tightest hairpins, rally drivers grab the handbrake because of the steering ratio. They just can't afford tp turn the wheel to opposite lock.
By the way, did I call you a moron because I don't agree with you ?
as far as driving skill is concerned, I don't know about extreme drifts as they are done in D1 event, but in general, a self induced controlled drift is always easier to do than catching an unpredicted one.
Most of the time, they don't do it because it is the fastest way to take the corner, they mostly do it to have the car oriented toward the exit of the corner earlier and being able to floor it sooner.
If you look carefully, hillclimb drivers slide much less than rally driver. But hillclimb races are often done in the very same roads as the rally events and with the very same cars. So why do they slide less ? Because the hillclimb racers can learn the 5 minutes race course, have a few test runs before the actual race + a full bunch of marshalls to warn them if there is an unpredicted grip problem, so they prefer carrying more speed in the corners. The Rally drivers can't learn the whole 30 km of an SS and nobody will warn them if the stupid crowd throwed water or ice on the road. Rally deals a lot with having to predicate the road surface, so they put the car in a slightly slower controlled slide because it is safer than being catched by a sudden understeer when a tire find a damp patch.
Being a new silver licensed driver, I've seen everything at the bronze servers, from the very worse to the very best.
The explanation is simple : the entry is free to everyone with or without an existing license. The real wreckers tend to not finish their races and will give up before earning the silver license. This is the reason why there is more dirty driving in the bronze ones. Also, the UF1000 is a good starting point for a new driver as a driving experience, but it also make passing more difficults because the race are often closer, so it increase the chance of bad moves. With faster cars, the critical point is the start of the race, but after a few laps, the fastest drivers will inevitably reach the front and the bad drivers will go backwards. In a bronze UF1 race, it can be a real pain to pass slower drivers if they are driving in crazy bowling mode.
Remember that being a bronze licensed race != being a newbie.
I've only started racing seriously with LFS in the last few months and started racing at the CTRA servers a few weeks ago, but although I've only done 7500km in LFS, I'm a simracer since the good old Papyrus Indianapolis 500 and I started racing online 7 years ago with GPL.
This is just a post to make the point that being a bronze licensed or new silver licensed driver doesn't mean anything at all, and no conclusion can be made of this. Only the driving behaviour matters.
The explanation is simple : this type of driving behaviour is stupid, uninteresting, dangerous and boring. Making a video of it won't make it more interesting.
I usually keep my line if there is only one leader, just raising the brake zone a little bit. I know he will easily get past me if he is faster, although it seems some people do not like it.
If there are 2 or more racers, I usually lift in the straight, in order not to ruin their fight. I use my turn signals to warn them if I want to keep an external line or if I want to change line.
this video is graphically beautifull (and I also like Trentomoller), but I won't say it is the best ever. I find it actually slightly boring. Were is the racing ? Is Live For Speed a racing simulator or an Eye Candy thingy ? It doesn't give a good view of Live For Speed as a whole.
IMHO, the best LFS movies are still Yamakawa's UF1 Club reviews. I love those racing footage with kitchy music
No offense intended eh, I wouldn't be able to produce a better vid !
It's not about discussing the pros and cons, or being counter-productive. But you just shouldn't "expect it to be the FE2 I know" when joining a random public server. There is no LFSetiquette which says that tracks shouldn't be altered in any way.
CTRA admins do what they want in their servers. period.
If you want to race the FE2 track without those additions, just join another server. It is as simple as that
By the way, adding a few tires to sligthly modify a track, or adding a chicane doesn't make it an autocross/slalom track. There are plenty of examples of real tracks where chicane are added regularly with tires to cope with safety issues, for example when the cars are too fast in a particular area and because safety requirements have been raised since the build of the track.
The Blackwood track is much much wider than normal roads, so you don't get the same sense of speed as you would in a typical european country road. That's probably the reason why your dad and brother think they slide at low speed.
Example : with the slowest LFS car, you can do the 2.1 mile blackwood gp track in 1min42 seconds. Average speed : 74 mph in a 55bhp car with 4 gears. Even with the long straight, this is a very fast average speed considering the engine. That means the corner are taken pretty fast (while it feels quite slow).
sometimes you say sorry because you bumped a little your opponent without gaining any place. You just want him to know you didn't do it on purpose. I usually give them a break in the few following corners though but the guy won't necessarily remark this and will think that I'm just slower.
I know it probably bother some peoples, but there is so many stupid things said in the chat in the public servers that I usually ignore them and don't use them much (and a lot of people probably do the same). Flashing my lights wouldn't help much when I'm side by side.
It's always a quick horn though, and I find this better than being thrown out of the track because someone didn't look right/left.
When I have to pass someone under the blue flag, I usually use the horn. I hope it doesn't sound too rude, I only use it to warn the driver in front of me that he is about to be lapped. I don't have that many buttons on my wheel so I have very few preprogrammed messages (a smiley and a "sorry !" button, yeah I also do mistakes sometimes ).
I also use the horn very often when I'm side by side other drivers. I only use it as a safety mesure in case they didn't saw me.
I just need to warn you guys that using music from in your video which you don't own the copyright nor do have an agreement from the copyright holders is illegal (99.99% of the commercial music).
You should rather use music released under a licence that allow redistribution and reuse in another production.
1. They are paid to win
2. The cars performances are very close
3. These cars have way too much grip compared to the speed in the straight
Result : drivers can't just win because of their talent, because there are few passing opportunities (braking zones are too short, like in Formula 1). They are paid to win, so they don't give a damn about being fair. It is a bit like war : kill or be killed, the rules are simple.
Give them good old Ford Sierra RS500 and you will see them fight normally again, because the fastest drivers would make the difference.
stupid question. just download the LFS S2 "Patch W" release. You should have installed the test patch in a separate folder in the first place.
there are more than 3 hosts and people online all the time with the new patches. If you don't see them, verify you are not filtering the results and log in to lfsworld to compare the "in game" race list with the test patched hosts in LFS World.
If you have a problem with your sata interface, there is many chance it is just not supported by the kernel. As far as I know, all the biggest distro uses the same 2.6.20 version of the kernel, so you should not expect an opensuse or fedora to work better with your hardware until the next releases.
I know that some buggy sata controller have problem with linux. For some of them you can try the option acpi=off or pci=nommconf at the grub boot prompt and it should boot.
I don't think it has anything to do with a missing fd0 device. I have used computers without a floppy drive for more than 8 years without any problem and if it hangs during the gui loading, this probably an X11 (configuration?) or GDM problem. You should try logging in console mode in another tty and have a look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file. I believe there is also a /var/log/gdm directory too.
It looks good. Too bad it is proprietary though :\
If ubuntu doesn't boot, you should try another distro than kubuntu because the internals are the same (kernel + userland). They only differ by the choice of the window environment (just a different set of preinstalled packages).
A computer that doesn't boot linux is a rare case nowadays, you may have a very specific problem. I know some HP computers with buggy SATA controllers need kernel options at the boot prompt for example. Before burning CDs for each distro I'd suggest doing a google search with your specific hardware.
Which language/portable libraries did you use for the windows/mac versions ?
