I hope you don't mind some criticism I'm sure you've put a lot of work into this.
I'm not saying you have to do any of this but these are just my thoughts.
My opinion is that the road textures do not look realistic - There's far too much contrast and for a smooth city road the aggregate (rocks in the road mixture) are far too large and spread out. Typical roadstone aggregate is probably between about 10-20mm bits.. Like this very angular fragments to prevent tyre slip and very fine to prevent puncture.
You've used what looks like concrete grey for the road whereas South City being a city in the south of the UK, they would use black asphalt because that's what they use around this part of the world :P
I've a question about the .lfs scripts. I was wondering if there is a way to make the script wait for a certain amount of ms before running the next command?
The initial idea in the first post could easily be a successful one, but LFS hardly has the manpower to make 1 game nevermind make 1 and oversee the development of another
I followed these steps and am also able to reproduce this problem, however the first time I tried the track disapered instead strangely (whilst spectating another user)
I found that after about 300 seconds when I tabbed back into LFS everything had fixed itself but it was not the tabbing that did this because I had tabbed in/out multiple times before this
Congratulations to the LFS Dev team and the community for making this game so great.
I'm so glad this sim exists, and it's truley something that was made by someone with a passion for race dynamics. Other race sims i've played have been made by 50 to thousand developers and have kept my interest for a week. LFS was made primarily by 3 people and has kept me interested for 6 years and I still learn new things to this day I think this is truley an achievement.
Hi guys, hoping for some responses from experienced people who're good with setups and technical know-how here
So, I'm working on an fxo setup, and basically what i'm doing is doing a lap, then watching the replay, observing the forces on the car and tyre heat/how much is actually on the surface of the road etc.
What I notice is.. around the sharper corners, the front inside tyre (closest tyre to the corner) is spinning and leaving a nice skid line behind it.
Observing the forces I think it's safe to conclude that this tyre has no-weight on it around the corner and infact it might even be being slightly lifted at points which would be an obvious cause of the skidding.
My question is.. Is there a way to prevent it from skidding? I tried adding lots of anti-roll to the front and stiffening it up in the hopes this would help keep it firmly on the ground so that the car wouldn't 'tip' but this didn't make much of a difference I still see skidmarks and the weight still very much goes to the outside of the car..
Hey guys, I'm wondering if you can help me out since i'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to graphics settings and what they do - Perhaps somebody has a similar rig to mine and a bit of knowhow on the matter?
I've a Dell (Dimension 5150) with a P4HT 3.2Ghz CPU, and a Nvidea 8800GT Graphics card, and 4Gb (3.25 gb usable) machine running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
The thing is, on single player, LFS Achieves around 70-80 FPS, which is just fine and to be honest as long as it's over 30 it doesn't bother me how much further above it goes. However online I achieve 40 FPS max and then when >4 cars are around me it can drop to 20, heaven forbid a physics object gets involved .
I know Pentium 4 is fairly old but i'm pretty sure LFS is just as old so why does my machine struggle? LFS has these settings (half of which i don't know what they do);
User lod 0.55
Mirror lod 0.25
Dust lod 0.41
Haze effect yes
Draw sky off
Shadow type low res
Draw trees off
Draw flags off
Draw rubber main
Full screen aa 8x
Texture filtering 16x
Mip bias -1 interface
-2 objects
-3 grass/gravel
-4 road surfaces
textures high res
car/helmet skins full
z buffer depth 24
I've never touched the graphics settings on the actual nvidea program - does this need tweaking too perhaps? I really don't know how to get performance out of this machine
I appreciate your help!
Edit: Another thing, LFS Has higher fps in windowed mode than full screen too
Not sure if this has been suggested before, but hear me out on this one.
The map in LFS, can sit on the right or left side. With the driver on the left of the car, it obscures the rear-veiw mirror, and with the map on the left it obscures the chat, either way conflict.
My suggestion is to make it possible to move the map to the bottom corners, I mean, look at all the real estate available in the bottom right corner here
Maybe an option you've not considered yet, how about a surround-sound headphones, or headset?
Steelseries would then suit you very well, since the sound is decent, but not on an audiophiles level perhaps since the bass is a bit weak for my ears .. You can get a pair of Siberia V2's for about 80 Euros.. 84 from their official website if that's not too far a push
As much as the thought of people of the FBI frantically running around trying to fix there website amuses me, I'm not convinced it was a step in the right direction as fighting fire with fire just results in a flame war.
That Megaupload was targetted was only because it was successful and some people had abused it - Which had aided the success, that the US is holding the owners responsible for the content the users have put on there certainly tells you alot about US's "because we say so" policy..
You're missing the point, and being very obnoxious about it too.
The computers parts in a mac are nothing special, and it's easy for something as crappy and '20 year old lada' esque to emulate. Even though Mac boasts top of the range security that'll never get ported onto other machines; it has. The OS is nothing special. The parts on a mac are nothing special.
Combined with the poor user experience and money drain, it would be shallow to consider the Mac special because it is shiny like a bmw, when the 20 year old Lada can keep up with it.
Sure, if you're the shallow kind of person who likes shiny objects that give you a false sense of social status, it is perfect. But I've yet to hear one genuine good feature about a Mac other than 'it's shiny'.
At no point did I imply there were no benefits to using a Mac based OS, I'm sure if you really scrounge around you can find some Maybe after the 'years taken to figure out', you will xD Oh my.
I'm sorry, I know it's probably provocative of me to argue over stuff like this, and don't get me wrong, I don't like stock windows very much either or linux, or android. Windows isn't true open source and stock android is counter intuitive, difference is you can change them.. Wheras I feel that Apple trains people to be technophobes.. I'd certainly become one spending years learning how to use the basic features of a computer, followed by the rest of my life to make it look how I want it to y'know..
This is not an Apple vs. Windows situation here but more of an Open vs. Closed source development thing.
Think of Mac's like the US and SOPA. Tiny little spec on the world trying to stop everyone doing what they normally do, just adding to the financial issues of the world as businesses can't survive on this model.
Think of Windows and Linux users as the rest of the world, sure they sometimes do the wrong things, and break the system, but they are also the realists who know things will sometimes go wrong and accept that you have to experiment to find the good solution that'll actually work.
Rarely is the incorrect term, never is.
Part of User Experience is Usability. You've just contradicted yourself by telling us it took you years to figure out how to use a Mac, which indicates a failure in usability, possibly counter intuitive features such as a lack of a right click?
No different to today then
What you can get out of a Mac OS is very little - The closed source nature means that your Mac is neither personal - Can you make your own taskbar in Photoshop to use? Can you decide what type of menu you want? If it has useful widgets or not?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Generally speaking, only very mainstream developers who are already big can afford to develop for apple - Your computer can do very limited amount of things as a result and just causes compatibility issues with the standard windows OS.
If I recall correctly, apple charges mobile developers to make products for there phones.
Furthermore, the apple OS is as good as worthless to the tech savy person like me. My little netbook already has a hack for it that'll allow it to run your OS, umadbrah? It's got the same components as Your Mac too. Sure it looks more like a cheap netbook, but it also cost me the price of a cheap netbook.
For example, I've been given an iPhone before, and a HTC Desire. The iPhone runs the iOS, my HTC Desire runs the iOS. And Sense. And MIUI. And Cyanogen Mod. And BlackIce. And Icecream sandwich. (Just to name a few) - The developers for my product design for a hobby, in such a nature that I can see what they do as they develop my product and give them feedback! It's an open forum! (XDA )
Same can't be said about an apple product.
There are very logically reasons why you should not buy an apple product and unfortunately it's the misinformation to the public that results in people buying them and getting poor user experience for the money they've paid..
I know everyone comes across as some douche hating on apple products but we're just doing our bit to deter more people from making these mistakes. Y'know
