On JaR we issued a bunch of perm bans when we saw some people with 5 or 6 "spare accounts"

I dont believe the hack scenario, but the renting one from scammed/gift/bought/2nd hand accounts seems more realist.

Actually this makes sense now for me, cause I just couldnt believe people would buy 6 s3 accounts to get them all perm banned on JaR.

I wont change my password now, if some wizard can hack accounts now (wich I dont believe at all), he would easy get my new password tomorrow.

Also this account borrowing business is probably running for monthes, so no need panic.

great, mod sorting was very much needed

In old times when we had 1000 polys for a whole car we would be happy.

If we check how it was done back then :
- we have a high poly model, we photoshoot it (printscreen) from big distance with long focal (big zoom so perspective are flatened), front, back, left, top side
- cut front, left back...textures from this.
- then we build a proper very low poly mod following the high poly outlines, starting from a subdivided box usually, or very crude retopo
- then we map the box with previously made textures.

In the end a LOD2 will be drawn on a very very small number of pixels so the textures dont need high resolution, 256*256 or even 128*128 will be more than enough.

That is easy enough and gives good enough results for something convex that u will see from afar. Most of mods would do that below 1000 polys.

For bikes, cranes and complicated shapes that matter a lot for the shadows, it will be a bit more tedious and will need quite more polys to get good results for shadow, but still, that's much faster than building a detailed LOD1. Maybe some polygon reduction tool would be more efficient here.

actually better check the .veh, most of size is often textures

Another point is that using textures or parts from another mod doesnt constitute a derivative work by itself, but rather theft, unless author of texture or part explicitely allows copy.

And if you want to be totally clean legit, you must include all the licenses of all the parts and textures that u have used in a text file that must be distributed with your work.

From my experience however, textures copyright is unmanageable, everyone builds on other people work, sooner or later. Who takes care of license for a texture ?
So while the law is clear, it is not enforced on some specific things wich have been integrated in work/business culture.
In fact using textures/part from another work could also be interpreted as sampling, like in music, but am not sure, it would need some research.

Better stick to the law, and most of all, respect of other people work, specially in a small community.

Usually for anything not written in a copyright license, normal copyright applies.
Granted rights must be explicitely written in the license, wich is usually not the case for derivatives in royalty free licenses.
CGTrader is no exception, I could not find anything on derivatives in that license, so I would nt allow derivatives and keep like it is now.

hey, watch out ! royalty free models from CGTrader dont explicitely allow derivatives.
A retopo is a derivative, and even more, making a LFS mod from an imported 3D model is itself a derivative.
Only use models with license that explicitely allow derivatives.

on a full server where people are allowed to pit anytime, that pit lag forbids racing. Sometime on JaR u get so much people, that u can have a string of pit exits so close from each one and u cant just take a corner properly.

Also people tend to gather in same places, so u can have 15-20 cars swarming at that place, making fps drop to sometimes 10 on my old q6600 system.

Pit lags got worse and worse since some monthes, I didnt have some much drops last summer so it's good if checks are implemented and limits enforced. Having 50% of a mod's polycount on the rims is absurd, go racing instead.

Well, I drove a bit and tuned a setup.
It should feel balanced and much easier to drive than the stock set, on wheel and mouse.
Good as it is for beginners, and for racers, a good basis to fine tune.

this brings a new level of detail and quality

only downside is the standard setup, it is much too unstable, specially for casual drivers who just want a try

well the connection list has a scrollbar now, and that makes writing admin commands wich need usernames (right click in connection list) a bit tedious
It was much more convenient when all connections were displayed on screen, so maybe switch to scrollbar above 47 connections and keep old system below that threshold ?

we are getting some cases of OOS - Car
bavaria sultan special, and bavaria A63 N power will cause OOS out of pit

sultan is v12 and a63 is v10 engine so i guess its related with sound update

It seems other mods are causing OOS too but I have no info wich ATM

For admins to "abuse their power", there must be some authority above them, which is not the case. Admins are the authority, they write the law, they dont owe anything to any entity or god.
Once again, JaR is a private initiative, not a government institution. When you connect, you are a GUEST, you have to behave and respect others.
That, is a one way street.
If a driver doesnt care, why would we care anyway ?
Ban without warning is ok, we dont waste time with people who dont care.

U need an update on your gentlemen faery tale, we admins are not online to explain basic manners to kids, rather we are there to keep the server out of chaos and ego drivers who cant care a second for what's happening around them, believing the other cars are NPC's instead of people.
