hey,

-am "staff" (notice how u use business langage like JaR was a business or state institution, nah, just use the usual word : admin)

- i dont use discord, and wont ever

-90% of server is made by how users behave.

- this thread should not be there, there is always a user to scream after being banned, most times because he believes JaR is a business, or that he paid for it when buying LFS, or that admin are paid by Scawen or state sponsorised, anyway he believe he is owed something... and that is a schizophrenic trait : those people live in a weird, fantasmagoric world Big grin

I'll put it there because I just love that definition (it describes the everyday people in the everyday stupid things they do and believe)

'schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling.'

How about you then, reader ? Big grin

that kind of pictures only show finished parts and is not convincing at all to me
take a look at some examples of nice WIP thread from people who also made a "original work" mod.

also why did u model those wheels with such details ? weird for a lfs mod project

It could well be that u grabed some low poly model ripped from some game, screenshot some views of it and we wouldnt see any difference with what you are showing here. Think about it.

well then
I am not the admin who banned you, but I checked the log :
Capybarja : Constant crashing, ZERO minimap use, ww - Banned 15 days.

Now I see you are all fresh new player and make a thread here when there is already a thread for that matter.
Then I guess you are the kind of person who just dive in the pond without any care of how deep it is.

When you are a new player, you want to observe how things are done, what are the rules and usages to avoid splashing the people all around like you did on server and make noise like you are the only one.

You are unbanned, also because you are new player, but please have some respect for the community, as I wont waste more time explaining basic things = you wont be unbanned twice.

Welcome. Big grin

Agreed, nice addition to the approved mods list.
Almost all other drag mods are forbidden on Just a Ride, but that guy knows how to build dragsters, and make this kind of racing interesting again.

Quote from Scawen :[...] But something tells me to always be very tolerant and give tiny short bans even when long ones seem deserved.

It's pretty hard doing this job when under attack so often.[...]

I find it truly amazing that u can have so much patience and endurance. And the LFS sim reflects this. Hats off.

@spoiled kids

once again people are about being "competitive", when it should stay a passion project that allows its authors to keep developping it after 25 years.
I rly dont care about hype graphics or crowded grids, my computer would not handle those graphics, and I wouldnt handle the noise of the crowd.
I would probably take a long break if lfs got crowded that much, as the ban list would grow along with it, and the list of new mods submissions...
You guys should stay on those crowded hype competitive sims instead of writing noisy bullshit to only vent your frustration here.
Spoiled kids.

I tried bummer 7, yes it is well made graphically but I didnt get anything close to the feeling of houssem's cars.
Also bummer is public so why do u even mention it here ? hmmm
I should have restrained myself to comment on houssem's car because then it would attract noise makers ? baaahhh not nice.

I hated bavarias until I drove Houssem's, he builds them by the book as much as he can and they handle amazing. Just try them.
Top job. Houssem president.

Quote from chucknorris :It's easy to say that if nobody can verify that.

(...blabla...)

Hence why I proposed to have a solution built-in right into LFS that would enable to identify individual hardware. But it's ultimately up to Scawen to decide whether the issue is big enough to undertake such steps.

am not sure why u need to invalidate that 7.5% when it is a fact, yes it is based on IPs and we dont need more than that to get a global view of number of shared accounts (yes, I didnt write rented account as u imply in ur post
hhowever I see u still need to blame other people for the issue and dont even think of changing anything in ur handling of it, again it's the job of other people to fix the mess that u still help to create (neutral stance, u wrote it)

(I expect partisan reactions with facepalms and question marks yes go on it's telling so much lol)

Quote from klbbadd2002 :JaR is basically jail for people banned from TC. Its an ongoing joke for quite sometime now. So it makes sense that a lot of your connections are shared accounts.

we have the same joke actually : people getting banned from JaR go to Freedom Factory server

Quote :I was trying to discuss things, you were taking it as attack and accusations.

I fully agree that.
Scawen presented facts, TC guys answered with nonsense and denying and they needed 5 pages to recover a little bit of reason, but they still dont admit explicitely that the problem mainly spawns from their server, while pushing forward that they "saved" LFS for the last 2 decades.
Hum...

edit:
kipieslim made some tool to detect shared accounts, and wrote this morning that 7.5% of Just a Ride connections since november are shared acounts.
People use them to evade bans.
1. they get banned with their own account
2. they go TC server and farm TC money
3. they rent another account with the money they made on TC
4. they get back on JaR, evading the ban.

Quote from Vilix : and now suddenly it's unethical and promoting inequality?

not sudden, it always has been, but now u see the long term results

Quote from Vilix : By that logic, how is it equal or fair that I play with a 10 dollar office mouse, but someone else is using a 2000 dollar simulator setup with clear advantage on LFS? How is it equal that rich people who can afford S3 get to enjoy it and benefit from all the cool things it gets, but poor people who are stuck in S2 cannot?

"mum he started, not me !"
why would you promote the very things u spit on everyday ? (i guess u spit on inequality, but i may be wrong after all)

Quote from Vilix :At the end of the day, the TC cruise server is a relaxing server with a compact community

this doesnt need a currency to happen

well, TC created a server where u have to drive to get money to buy new cars.
Now realize that the simple fact of being able to get that TC money in exchange of something else, "assets" as u write it (hmm, here too, think about it for a second lol that word), literally kills the spirit of the server.
There are other ways to give new drivers some starting bonus.

Atm, if u have friends or real money, u get an unfair advantage (cheating, yes) on other players who dont. This recreate the breeding grounds for the IRL world capitalistic perversions to emerge, when u could have taken advantage of having control on a virgin virtual world and use some imagination to create and experiment new ways, new mechanics, that allows to keep things out of the "monetization of anything" craze.
Fail.

It is always a mistake to transfert shitty concept from the real world into virtual ones.
Who need cops & robbers when we can simply race ?
Who needs money when everything is already available for free ?

Why didn't you TC guys break the money mess at first sign of abuse ? because u believe it is a normal part of this world. Simple.
U even call it "economy", wich tells a lot about your model and references.

As long as people think that money is an elementary particle of the cosmos and things can't exist without it, we are screwed.

guess that's what u get when u recreate real world money mechanics XD
I never understood why we need "buy" things on some lfs servers.
Am loling a bit, wow 1€ for 1000 TC, that is a smart guy behind this, he understood a lot, he will be rich someday ! or in jail Big grin

On topic, we have same thing happening on JaR with multiple users for 1 account and multiple accounts for one user, and quite a few account are banned now.
Some weeks ago I even had some player asking for a perm ban, I thought he was addicted and wanted to take a mandatory break, but I was wrong, that guy came the next day with a different account, and got banned too.
Maybe he was trying to make all rented accounts perm banned.

Let's hope this wont delay the dev too hard again.

Nice to clarify. So no account data hacking + my pass are unique = alright and safe.
License rental is a thing I already heard about on JaR.
Also I wouldnt be surprised to learn about some method to make AI guess easy passwords.
turbofan
S3 licensed
On JaR we issued a bunch of perm bans when we saw some people with 5 or 6 "spare accounts"

I dont believe the hack scenario, but the renting one from scammed/gift/bought/2nd hand accounts seems more realist.

Actually this makes sense now for me, cause I just couldnt believe people would buy 6 s3 accounts to get them all perm banned on JaR.

I wont change my password now, if some wizard can hack accounts now (wich I dont believe at all), he would easy get my new password tomorrow.

Also this account borrowing business is probably running for monthes, so no need panic.

In old times when we had 1000 polys for a whole car we would be happy.

If we check how it was done back then :
- we have a high poly model, we photoshoot it (printscreen) from big distance with long focal (big zoom so perspective are flatened), front, back, left, top side
- cut front, left back...textures from this.
- then we build a proper very low poly mod following the high poly outlines, starting from a subdivided box usually, or very crude retopo
- then we map the box with previously made textures.

In the end a LOD2 will be drawn on a very very small number of pixels so the textures dont need high resolution, 256*256 or even 128*128 will be more than enough.

That is easy enough and gives good enough results for something convex that u will see from afar. Most of mods would do that below 1000 polys.

For bikes, cranes and complicated shapes that matter a lot for the shadows, it will be a bit more tedious and will need quite more polys to get good results for shadow, but still, that's much faster than building a detailed LOD1. Maybe some polygon reduction tool would be more efficient here.

nothing personnal @scammergamerLOL but what scawen just wrote is the basic of survival, even in real world
much too much people need a teacher to go ahead, so much can't even TRY, and just ask questions on servers. How to join game ? How to spectate ? how to increase braking ? how to start LFS ? how to think ?

Hmm am going a bit far maybe, but well, it's a plague, everyone wastes times here.
Good luck with ur bugs, looks like a nice one.

The question asked in the poll suggests that it could be acceptable to answer yes. This is not good as it is a starting point to spread ignorance.

Copyrights laws are clear on the matter, maybe u could read some
https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/derivative_work

Another point is that using textures or parts from another mod doesnt constitute a derivative work by itself, but rather theft, unless author of texture or part explicitely allows copy.

And if you want to be totally clean legit, you must include all the licenses of all the parts and textures that u have used in a text file that must be distributed with your work.

From my experience however, textures copyright is unmanageable, everyone builds on other people work, sooner or later. Who takes care of license for a texture ?
So while the law is clear, it is not enforced on some specific things wich have been integrated in work/business culture.
In fact using textures/part from another work could also be interpreted as sampling, like in music, but am not sure, it would need some research.

Better stick to the law, and most of all, respect of other people work, specially in a small community.
