This has been happening to me all day on 0.5W. All the same symptoms. Been happening all week really. I did notice something in task manager I don't know if its relevant. But the system idle Process had 93 under CPU. Not sure what that meant, but I felt it might be connected.
In another msg, Scawen mentioned if the cpu clock and the computer time clock are out of sync more than 5ms, LFS wouldn't be able to handle it. I had an error in my in manager (right click my computer, select manage), event manager, Applications, on W32time. This controls timer synchronisation. The error stated it was caused cause the time server was inaccessable. So I clicked on the taskbar clock, and chose a diffnt time server and updated it. Also in manager, click on services, and scroll down till you find Windows Time. Make sure its set to automatic and its started. I also did the acpi update driver. In a short test in MP in LFS, I didn't have any sign of stutter. Though I'll need to test it more thoroughly tomorrow when I have more time.
Not sure if the time server controls puter time and cpu clock sync or not. But it made sense given the error.
Venus
[EDIT] Ignore all the time stuff. It is the cause of the error, but for some wierd reason I don't understand, my system keeps getting synchronisation errors with the servers, and I get the same problem with my world time clock when I try to sync that. Unfortunately there's no way to add a new server to the list. The first server time.windows.com doesn't respond to a ping, while the second one does (in australia). Still, both fail synchronisation. Anyone else notice this?
Well, that makes sense. I was just looking over my event into in sysmanager. One of the errors listed was W32time. This controls time synchronisation with a time server. The error was caused by XP not being able to contact the server (which was inaccessable). Given what you said, do you think this could be causing the time lag between the cpu clock and computer time clocks? Is there a way to find out wot that difference would be?
After spotting bunch of errors, I went thru them all fixing those I thought needed fixing (click on properties, click on link, that'll open IE.) which will tell you how, and if something needs attention. If you don't know what your doing, leave it alone. lol To fix this clock error, just click on your clock, and pick a different server and click on Update (time, not xp).
I just tried lfs again after doing this & updating the acpi driver and it doesn't seem to be stuttering anymore... though I'm reluctant to say its fixed, cause I only gave it a short test. I'll test it more tomorrow.
I'm running AMD Athlon 2000 2ghz, gforce2 mx400 card n 786mb ram. I'm also getting this really annoying stuttering. It seems to happen at any time, usually at the worst time. I set LFS to high priority in task manager, but that didn't help. So I set it to real time, that didn't help. The only thing that did seem to help was reiniting the sound, but it still happens, just not as much at the moment.
I also enabled force feedback, set Nvidia software to high performance. Just can't get rid of it. I've done spyware scans (nothing), virus scans (nothing) updated windows xp (nothing).... none of it fixes it. The developers working on fixing this damn bug? Its really annoying. Cause 2 weeks ago my hdd shat itself, so now i have an older one. With complete fresh system. The I never had any problems like this in the old setup. Ever since I lost my hdd its been a pain.
Thanks Bob. As for the dialing out the single wheel brake lockup, all you need is something that shows when the tyre under brakes locks due to unloading. Given the complexity of the modelling in the progs analysis, I'm sure you could come up with a way. Though I admit, it doesn't sound easy. lol
As for name... lol well...
Lemons Setup Analyser - obvious pun for ppl who know u in here,
Setup Analyser - obvious
BSSA - Bob Smiths Setup Analyser.
Lemon - your a lemon if you don't use it. lol
BBSA - Bobs Brilliant Setup Analyser. lol bit much i think lol tho it fits
The Setup Project
Project Setup
Bobland lol
LFS Setup - obvious but fits though implies LFS did it - not good.
Project Lemon
Personally, I like Lemon. if you don't like that, then Project Setup i spose, tho its a bit unimaginative.
Suggestion: way off probably... but it'd be awesome, if you could somehow model a tracks setup. ie player makes a setup, and within the analyser, it can model it on that track, on specific sections. Longest straight (gear ratios), most difficult corner (balance) (god knows how you'd define that in code) etc .. love to see it, but possibly beyond your scope.
Number 1, is the gui. It won't resize. My screen size is 1024x768 with larger fonts, and alot is off screen, and I can't get it to fill the screen. Can you fix that please? Be really useful to be able to see all of it... Yes I could change my res, but then I wouldn't be able to read it lol.
One suggestion. Could you add something, that would allow you to adjust when the front unloading tyre locks under braking turning into a corner. ie say on Aston club, on last corner; when I brake, and turn in under brakes, the front right becomes unloaded, and locks... its a problem with roll stiffness, but I've not been able to dial it out. If you can come up with some way to allow us to control that, it'd be awesome.
Other than that, I love it.... just wish I could see it all. I think thats a priority.. someone else mentioned the same thing earlier... doesn't seem to have been fixed... (I just downloaded latest vers btw from page 1, problem is still there).
Actually... I wouldn't mind seeing them go.. and replace the apex with a stick, and if you hit the stick, or go inside of it, you get a black flag for cutting... that stops cutting, and keeps to real racing rules... I agree in a real race they would be tied down securely, so they wouldn't come loose for safety... that should be mimicked in lfs.
Well, I can understand your problem... but my suggestion is simple... instead of trying to learn it by hotlapping.. do a 60 lap race.. and by the end, you'll know it backwards then do ur hotlapping... thats how I learn a new track.. never fails to do itin one session.
The other thing in hotlapping is none of your stats are recorded on LFS, so if u happen to do a kickass time, n bust ur pb.. it won't be recorded... plus i think hotlapping is only nygood if ur gonna try for a WR.
I second that completely... just to have the ability to run in rain, even if reflections sucked, and spray was active... with a lil tweak to grip, and some wet tyre choices... oooo it'd be so much fun... eventually of course, like eveyrone else, I'd love full on weather that changes during a race... n have to dive to pits to stick on wets... or slicks early I'd also like to see bit more range in tyres... slick/med/hard for all but the UF1/XFG/XRG. I'd also like to see traction control be abled to be left on instead of turning off after a bit... in F1, its on all the time... and only engages during wheelspin... at start/mid race or nytime.
I think its a stupid idea, totally against the idea of of LFS. If you can't catch the bad guys, I suggest you get a FOX lol or maybe try to get faster lol... Speed limits is just plain silly... the idea of police chasing is in lfs disobey all the (fictional rules)... thats why they are sposed to be chasing you.
Have you ever heard of "THINK BIG"??? Problem with aiming small with goals, is you just might hit it... Its much better to think big, even if you don't reach that goal, you will get alot closer, than if you thought small.
In goal setting; there is no such thing, as thinking too small.
I've been wondering, if its possible for the AI to learn off humans. To do it; it would require some sort of monitoring of the human, and then passing that info into the AI. Even after training, they are still slow.
One thing that annoys me about the AI. If I remove them from the driver list (not delete them), they have to relearn again. Typically at AS2 in the FOX, they start out doing 104's and end up doing low 103's. Be nice if they remembered they can go faster. But if some way could be done to allow ai to learn from us, it'd be much better. I know it would be very hard, but I'm sure its possible.
I think thats a stupid idea. I'd hate that, it takes away realism. Jeez, thats what View left/right/rear is for.... its not hard, and you get the option to have it smooth or instant. If you wear headphones instead of speakers, just the sound of the other car tells you 'exactly' where he is in relation to your car. Headphones give you full holophonic sound, something you just can't get with speakers.
I could do with this, I know my puter can do it; but I'm not sure how. Can someone point me to; or explain how to do it please? A process would be really helpful. My puters an Anthlon 1.6ghz that benchtests to 2ghz. 786mb ram, vid card is gforce2 (yuk).
Would it be possible please to add a curb on the outside, of the entry of the chicane at Aston Club please? It would stop alot of accidents. Not to mention; in real life, it would have a curb. Yes its more challenging without it. Or; just give us a lil room for error there. Currently, if you cross the line there; your gone, which is tricky cause in order to take that corner properly, you have to turn out to the line.
HI, it won't show up on the server list within LFS for you. It will for others. If you want to check if its showing, login to the LFS Desktop, and open Hosts online, and look for your server there. Mine never shows up in the lists in lfs. But it works great
Just hit Join rather than display lists.
As to your error. Not sure. Did you reset your modem after you setup the ports? I'd say go back to what you were doign first time; it was working then, as it said it was Online. Just make sure u reset your router after you get all ur port info in. Remember u need TCP and UDP forwarded.
Really mrodgers; you really should read more closely before you spend all that time writing that message. Thats exactly what I said. Only an idiot would think blue flag, relates to speed lol... (maybe in amercia it does, but LFS does not follow american rules, it follows international ones). The only time you are going to be shown a blue flag, is when you are about to be lapped. Because; for that to happen, the ppl in front of you would have to go all the way around the track for you to get a blue flag.
Next time; pls, read the msg properly and don't just assume ppl are idiots
well; if you have broadband. You probably have a router. If so; you will need to setup port forwarding within your modem. Go to portforwarding.com
Pick your router, then pick LFS. And do what it says. Its quite simple to do. Then; Dedigui should have your server working for you. You won't see it in the master list within LFS though, just join your game as I said, n ur away. Just cause u don't see it in lfs servers, doesn't mean its not there. If you want to check, go to LFS desktop, n look in hosts online there...
I just discovered this... and WOW, what a program. What an amazing piece of work. You should be bloody proud of urself Bob, bloody nice piece. Any ideas when it'll be finished? {drooooo}
This will make it alot easier for you Dedigui is a little windows program that lets you easily setup a server; without any of the hassle of messing with CFG files. It will create it for you. Just select the options you want. You'll need 3 pieces of info for it.
Your IP: The Port for the game 63392, the InSim Port: 29999
The rest of the options are up to you. I also suggest you read the command.txt file, within your LFS Docs folder. It has all the commands you'll want for the server (so you can understand them), and all the commands you can use IN your server once you have it going. When you get it going, join through "Join Server" rather than display servers. Enter your IP, your host password, and click go and your there.
Hmm. Usually, after I've started the server with Dedgui; I close it. There's no need for it to run after server is going. I'm using 29339 for the port. Its setup that way for my router, for my server; and for LFSLapper. As for Netstat. Well; thats a little confusing. Here's the results.
I'm sure you can make better sense from this than I can. I ported netstats results to a text file for you. When this was done; the server was running; I was in my car in the server; Dedigui was closed, I ran LFSLapper during the netstat run (which lasted about 15 seconds - there was ample time for it to detect anything from LFSLapper).
Yes I realise that. I don't have any other insim applications going at the same time; UNLESS; you call the dedicated server and my copy of LFS (for me to join my server) two diff insim apps? Dedigui is never running while my server runs. Its just used to start it. Well; I did as you suggested with the IP; for the first time; LFSLapper tried to access the net. I had to give it permission in my firewall (which I did). However; I still had exactly the same result from LFSLapper.
To run it; I'm running netstartdefault.bat (with my cfg file instead of the lfslapper one), I also put my cfg in the bin folder. Doesnt seem to matter where I put it; I get the same result.
Also; I'm still getting the can't find the pb.txt etc problem. lol
Am I becoming a headache yet? lol I know its giving me one lol hehe
