It's a zoomed in still from a video, yes. It was filmed inadvertently from a helicopter by an NRK photographer. They didn't discover that they caught him on tape until they got back to the editing room. Hence the low quality.
I don't think school schootings (there were two) and this case are so comparable. This guy was really organized and had planned this very accurately. Also, in his twisted mind he didn't shoot "civilians", he shot "enemies". It is more comparable to terrorism.
And also, what kind of f*cking organization is that, almost a 1000 young people on the island, political rally, and no security or any sort of police? They were hunted like animals on that island Someone has to resign for this, at least!
In fact, his twisted mind becomes interesting.
He spent 9 years to write (alone?) the 1000 pages book - elaborate on political, even more, transcentendal beliefs.
He spent as he wrote 300,000€ on this study.
And apparently on the attack, which I think the second one was a deliberate rather than as reaction to few victims at blasts.
So... back to his twisted mind - what was he trying to achieve viciously shooting 80 political teens (perceived as opponents) at 600 gathering??? Hatred? Punishment? Shattering common political correct beliefs? Do you think we can find it in "Declaration of Independence"?
From the video, apparently the hatred is what made him do it. Fighting the 'marxists' which I guess in his mind include social democrats.
The scary part is that I can identify some of the thoughts I've had about socialism.. Obviously he takes it to a different level though.
By the way, does your name refer to Ayn Rand? Because that's quite relevant right now :P
well... living in former-marxist state I would tell, in fact more and more they are
But we are not living in crusaders times when fighting means with fire&sword, as we say here.
You have to understand that stuff like this just does not happen here. This is not a threat anyone could predict. Had you told me armed security should keep guard at a place like Utøya two days ago, I'd call you a lunatic. This was always one of the most innocent, feel-good gatherings I knew of.
In Poland we had more than year ago similarly shocking incident with nearly the same deathtoll... It was catastrophy of a plane with 96 politicians of right-wing party, when pilot chose wrong altimeter on landing...even thou we had lots of jokes on the victims the very day the tragedy happened...
Therefore I fully understand how shocking it is for you and connect in deep grieve.
Just shocked to hear the news, truly shocked! My first thought was "why Norway?". If I'm not mistaking, Norway was proclaimed as the best country to live in, in 2010... that means a lot of effort and care in all aspects of ordinary people's lives....
So... our crusader decides to start his "war to defend" his nation by killing 90 of his own youngsters and destroying parts of his own city? What a brilliant thought! :doh:Wonder why he didn't decide to take the rocket launcher and just shoot at the Parliament when in session, as they are the "real enemy", rather then go fully armed against defenseless kids?
And now, after Islamic fundamentalists, we've got ourselves Christian ones too, capable of leading brave battles against fearsome enemies such as fully armed civilians... fully armed with pencils perhaps and "sinful" thoughts of how to provide for their families, where to go tonight to have a good fun...:irked:
Well, The US has been saying that for ten years and counting, I think it's safe to say we all hate the ****s in the middle east, Not the innocent people that happened to be born there.
One man army fighting a war without sense. I'm trying to make sense of it but even from his view point it is stupid and contra productive. I could see some kind of argumentation for the bombing, but the slaughter is demented. Ethnic cleansing of social democrats, that can lead to nothing he want to achieve.
Very clever... Hmm I have some friends I need to check up now... :-)
A Ruger Mini-14, a shotgun and a Glock (as from what I find), since he kept cool and methodical, sniping with single shot he could probably go on until he ran out of ammo.
I think it's important not to run the "christian fundamentalist" angle too hard. That wasn't really his main motivation at all. The only way he really used Christianity in this was to separate himself and his own values from "the others"; basically immigrants, particularly Muslims, and people advocating multiculturalism. Christianity was just a handy label to use when thinking "us vs them".
This is fairly typical for Norway. A lot of people here would probably describe themselves as Christian if you asked, but very few actually follow the religion other than maybe going to church for Christmas. That doesn't mean religious thought-patterns don't manifest themselves in other ways though, as this man is evidence of.
