Interesting
The new systems are considerably safer, when I can see evidence that a system works then ok, I'm not a complete nutcase. The systems I'm really concerned about are the old systems that are deathtraps and are built in totally inapropriate locations. If these fail in the way 3 Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fujikawa, Sellafield fail then the medical effects are proven.
Fujikawa is in China syndrome right now and theres a chance of a really impressive explosion.
Sorry if your in the fallout zone.
Lets take a quick look at Sellafield, this is from the Guardian.

Interesting, and so's the fact that the company doing the cleanup got an act through parliment giving them complete excemption from any future claims for damages for anything.
And it's a snip at only 50 billion pounds, and I'd expect, as all govt contracts do, thats only going up from there.
Thats certainly cheap energy, yeah right. ( For everyone from round here! )
Did I mention how pissed the Irish and Norwegians are about it ?
But it's completely safe. (?)
The total nuclear power produced as a percentage of your total production is less than 20% for both the UK and the US.
Oil is far safer and if anyone has bothered following the last 20 years of research then there are some fascinating breakthroughs here.
No, it's not a final solution, there are fascinating areas to explore for potentinial power sources.
My real concern is with your nuclear deathtraps. Please get your acts together and turn them off ASAP please.
