Quote from edge3147 :Turn around the pit speed sign and BAM, you have your no entry sign.

See attachment.

In fairness, in the UK where Degats resides, that sign means that the national speed limit (60mph/70mph) applies. Very different from 'no entry', which is why he doesn't use it.

I have this recurring dream that I have left my car unlocked. Every single time, I wake up and end up going out to check my car, and not once has it actually been unlocked.

Another, less frequent (a few times a year maybe) dream is that I am driving a car, and no matter how hard I press the brakes, or pull the handbrake, the car won't stop. It is always rolling at around walking pace.

I will join you once I download the ALMS Mod. I presume I won't need the trackpack (yet) since we are using the Nordschleife?

Quote from Dygear :I'm just pissed because they are messing with the best thing in years. We have it on the BBC, so there are no commercials, we have Martin Brundle and David Coulthard, arguably the best duo since Murry and Martin. More then anything, we are losing Martin and David for half the season, and I just don't know why they felt the need to do this. Just when it get's to be great, they have ruin it.

Well, if you don't have sky, you may be loosing Martin completely. There has been some suggestion that Sky have offered him a contract to join their Formula 1 commentary team. Combined with that, Martin has said on his twitter account that he has to look at all of his possible options for 'work'. If sky are offering him a significant amount of money, to cover all of the races, then I do not see why Martin would not move to Sky. Prior to the Sky deal he would have been going to all of the races anyway, so it isn't like there would be significantly increased traveling.

Quote from Senninha25 :
External starters like those screw drivers that are stuck to the back of the car to get the engine going? Or outside help?

The engine must be started from within the cockpit, ie a starter motor.

Quote from Senninha25 :
so you can't really coast the car on a slope to get the engine going again in case you stall.

No, but you could use KERS (or the electric motor - Im not entirely sure they are the same thing in this case, I haven't read the regulations in detail). I mean if you can use it to drive down the pits, then you could use it to, in effect, bump start the engine.

Quote from Sobis :demo user making xrt sounds - nice!

Back when what you quoted was posted, January 2007, the XRT was one of the three available demo cars. The FBM wasn't even in the game.

Quote from sinanju :Hi
I looked at quite a few of your laps, and because your best time was by cutting the corner - I KNOW racing drivers are supposed to exploit everything possible, but I considered this missing of a corner the same as missing a chicane type of incident, which is why it was such a harsh penalty.

I'm glad you pointed out the 'bug' (I also found another hole that was possible to be exploited, and which I filled at same time).

Earlier today, just before my previous post, I re-enabled all the cars.

At the moment, most people are setting times with TBO's, LX4's, and others like that.

I see you've been back on anyway, and you're always welcome

Cheers.

Like I said, I had thought I had set the fastest lap later on, obviously the shortcut worked better than I had expected and I mistakenly read the 37.8 as 38.7. In hindsight I should have probably pointed out that I thought that there was an issue, rather than going about testing it myself, on a live server. I totally agree with the removal of the time, had I been aware of my mistake I would have pointed it out immediately. Apologies.

Quote from sinanju :

I've also deleted a BF1 time where a corner was cut, thereby saving a noticable amount of time.

I just went on the server just now and found my time gone. Are you sure this is correct? I know I 'checked out' the corner after witnessing others driving over it, but I had deliberately slowed my pace prior to the corner so that it wouldn't effect the PB chart. I remember the lap time being achieved from cutting the corner being a 38.7, despite very slow sector times. I did later set a 37.8x lap time, but I admit that I just assumed that the 37.82 time was the 'correct' one, as the 'top 12' list doesn't always display. I did expose the bug to you the next time you connected.

If this is the incorrect version of events, I apologise profoundly to you Sinanju, and all users who were 'beaten' by this incorrect time - I honestly hadn't intended to capitalize on the lack of hidden marshal. I had worked very hard throughout that day, to improve my times, and was quite happy with the time I had achieved up to the point where I noticed the bug (38.2x).

Anyway, I am quite happy to show that I can do the time 'legally' if you enable the BF1 again in the server.

I honestly don't think I can do 37.82 again. It was such a fluke managing to get through Followthrough flat out by riding the little speedbumps on the outside on entry. Every other time I have tried it, I just spin out.

Time to start work on the other open wheelers.

Edit : Just found out that my BF1 time is no longer the fastest - although my one still is the fastest without penalties.

Quote from EQ Worry :Here's another replay of the buggy start, when the timer starts to run actually 1.5 to 2 seconds after green lights. It seems it is not such a rare bug as I thought, when I asked people to watch for it they could see it pretty soon.

It just looks to me that the race timer only starts once the first car crosses the finish line - which yes, in my opinion, is incorrect.

The patch (A4) is running well here though, other than aforementioned timing bug.

Quote from GreyBull [CHA] :Uhm, sounds more or less like cargame(with no GTRs on the base server though), no?

And BTW, if there's no restriction, what will you do to stop the masses from taking the server's fastest class?

Well, not really - because what I am saying is that you have to vote for one of those car classes (or in the OW case, a car) to race. In Cargame, you have to earn points to unlock the classes - and all classes race at the same time. I am talking about voting for a single class for all players to race.

I guess in a way it is like how Cargame lets players vote for a track, except the idea which I have suggested, you vote for a car class instead - but you cannot vote for the same car class twice in a row.

[To clarify, I am talking about single class racing, opposed to CG's multi class racing].

Quote from Trekkerfahrer :I dont want to come over 3 servers

Well, perhaps the servers could still allow voting for car class, however with a limited scope.

Server 1 : Road Cars (UF1, XFG, XRG, XRT, RB4, FXO, LX4, LX6, RAC, FZ5) - Can vote for STD, TBO or LRF

Server 2 : Racing Cars (XFR, UFR, FXR, XRR, FZR) - Can vote for GTR or Junior GT (or whatever you want to call it)

Server 3 : Open Wheelers (MRT, FBM, FOX, F08, BF1) - Can vote for individual cars.

I voted for single class, but I would suggest that when voting for the next car class to be raced, it cannot be the same class as before the vote, perhaps even the previous two classes.

I tried to replicate this bug in other vehicles, but so far only the XRG has done it, on that specific corner (SO5R Hairpin), more than once [the other time it happened was before I was intentionally trying to do it, therefor the replay wasn't saved].

I am going to see if I can replicate the FXR, SO3 one too.

I agree that it would be beneficial for MPRs to record the local player's movements in the same way as SPR.

I think that the MPR-Merge function is a great idea also, but it seems like it would be a complicated thing to do.

Quote from Scawen :This is my only worry about this patch at the moment. Unfortunately it's really a bad thing. It's possible to get these false collisions, but they are so rare, and cannot be reproduced. If someone got it in single player mode and posted an SPR then I could track it down and fix it. But these MP Replays only show the outcome, not the actual collision event itself.

Here is an SPR of the ghost collision, 1st lap, hairpin on SO5R.

Quote from westfield bend :I know it uses the pit lane (and probably can't happen)... But wouldn't this be awesome?

It could be done by splitting the pit 'straight' in half using barriers, rather than using the pitlane - but it would be quite narrow as a result.
Suggestion for Track editor (Open Layouts)[Minimap]

I was looking at the "New Open Track Configurations" thread in the Autocross Layout thread, and thinking that it would be useful if the track mini-map showed these layouts correctly, rather than showing all off the roads on the track.

I was wondering if perhaps as part of shift-U, the track map could be displayed (in a separate tab at the bottom, perhaps), as different, 'drivable' segments, each of which can be selected / deselected for display on the minimap. This would allow layout producers, to display a minimap on each users machine, which accurately displays the route their track takes.

Attached is an example of what I mean of 'Segmentation'.

Although despite facing the wrong way at the start on the Nurb i had some pretty close racing with Jibber. Everyone else got pwnt. Apart from me losing connection 5 times it was a good fun night, especially as i won every race i participated in.

First race at Tsukuba, you in the old Fiat. I think you will find that you didn't win that one.

Anyway, the racing was clean (between LFS players anyway), and at the end of the day, that is what matters.
