Sorry for being gone, but yes OpenVR is mostly in maintainence afaik from the OpenVR maintainer himself (Got to speak to him in VRChat one day) even back when I first posted this.
gu3st provided the best detail there, but OpenXR absolutely is the future.
So this was a bit fun to fun to try out. So basically thought to try getting OpenComposite to work with LFS as it tends to resolve some of the "warping" issues in VR that LFS suffers from (fixed it for iRacing particularly), because this is my second favorite sim of all time and I thought to promote it more in my streams.
Which means that even if there was OpenXR support via OpenComposite, it's essentially impossible to use with LFS because it's still a 32-bit app afaik.
Is there any chance on it moving to 64-bit and possibly just moving to OpenXR support since OpenVR is basically done in terms of overall development?
As much as I'm sure some folks would complain about losing support for older hardware, it's a bit of an issue with the game not supporting newer hardware already
Also holy crap I have not updated my profile picture. Man I was a weeb. I guess I'm still kinda a weeb but I'm like... "refined" weeb.
(i7 2600k oc'd 4.2, HD4890, 8gigs)
I'm really getting annoyed by all this hatred towards improvement.
(Because, honestly, LFS does need a graphics update. Example: What about weather effects, better RALLY anyone? Racing is just as much about the visual as it is about the sound and the feel. A lot of you people don't understand this. No we don't need groundbreaking graphics, but honestly:
This silly hatred of anything that requires you to get anything new is annoying. (Seeing how all it does is limit the game's potential, rather than help it.)
Point is, yeah, you do need to worry about the physics and the game itself... but you're running on old technology by old technologies standard. At least a little DX9 would help... geez.
(and honestly, if you can't run that, please afford yourself a better computer. I know you can. I worked on a walmart hourly wage and i did. then i lost my damn job...
.....and I'm STILL doing ok. (ok maybe not this past month but, hey! I lasted 5 months before I actually went negative... because it took a LOT longer to get working and get a paycheck at my new job than i expected.)
You people have gotten whiny, just like everyone else on the internet.
Akshully I believe, like above, the Track Creator will be more for rally folks who like to "make their own trail"
Trust me... Doing the same rally track over and over does kind of suck ... =/
Plus, as a racer, I actually enjoy all racing. Go-Karts, NASCAR, Rally.. a lot of the stuff LFS just doesn't do well yet. Actually, I've found myself playing more iRacing, but even iRacing doesn't have rally.
And as a person who plays more games than the guy who sells me games at gamestop (i made him sad, lol) I personally dislike Forza.
For 3 reasons:
Crap Handling: I mean.. Am i a brick? I understand being tight, but... even when i'm sliding i feel like my car is tight. What the crap is that.
Pitiful attention to detail: I mean, the tracks do look pretty neat. Bumpmapping is nice. But, my problem is that compared to games like iRacing, LFS, or GT5, the cars just... look cartoony. Too tall, some too wide, some just.. messed up. People tell me at work (i work in an electronics area, where we s.... I work for walmart. ._. I hate them though. At least it's not best buy. ^_^ They're douchbags.) anyways, people come in and tell me Forza looks the most realistic. I show them a GT5 trailer, then they go "Well.. uh... um... uh... PS3 doesn't have HALO!" (Legit Story. Me and my coworkers lol'd.)
Lastly, Poor Camera: I hate GT5 for it's camera. But at least their incar views look nice. Forza's just has poor distancing and crap. Mind, I play all sorts of racing games. I hate Forza's camera view more than i hate rFactors.. and rFactor has adjustable seating.
Hell... i hate it more than Arma II's camera... and that's a war game x.x though i've gotten used to it.
So, point is.... Yeah.. Forza's great for consoles.. but.... after playing the recent Nissan/Indy demo for GT5 about 4 months ago... I enjoy that more. (Plus, i live in indy.. and seeing indy... it was... almost an exact replication. I just wish they didn't do the fake wall BS. =/ They don't put tire barriers on Ovals for roadcourse versions... they use cones. ._. do not clutter my vision with crap! I want realism!
still doesn't make jnr89 any less of an ignorant fanboy...
=/ Personally for console games, I'll take GT over Forza.
But to be really honest.... I'd rather play some good ol NR2003 or GPL.
Good ol' GPL, now that was a hard game. xD
Anyways, there is a hype. It's the biggest racing game for PS3. That means PS3 people are happy. =) Because WE OWN a PS3. > >
In all honesty, all this argument boils down to is do you like 360 (forza) or ps3 (GT)
The Forza people are obviously jealous of the PS3's awesomeness, and the PS3 people are jealous that the 360 has a bigger e-penis.
You're all retarded. Just like the two parties of government here in the USA. (the democrats and republicans)
And to be completely honest, I feel like the 360 is the system for people who want to be "popular", and the PS3 is for people who really don't give a shit what people think about them. I'll enjoy my uncharted 2 thank you very much.
(Oh and if you must know WHY i dislike the 360 in any way.. there was this kid in my programming class who talked about Halo and Gears of War... ALL... THE.... TIME... Even to the teacher who had NOOOO idea what it was. ALL... THE.... TIME... ><)
Listen, I've tried almost every public server and, yes, I've seen what they have to offer. A whole hell of a lot of nothing. Just like the servers nowadays on Nascar Racing 2003 season... Just like the servers on rFactor.
CTRA was great because it was almost always full, the layouts wernt half bad, and the rules wernt terrible either. The most "exciting" servers i've been on are half-full demo servers. =/
I'm sorry that a different type of people than you exist on this forum. CTRA was like that pub in town that you used to go hang out with with your friends and stuff. It closes down and now you have to find a new place. Eventually you find another place to hang out, but it just doesn't feel the same.
That along with the fact with all the recent major changes in my life... for once PERSONALLY I'd like something that was stable and would stay the same. I mean, I didn't even find out CTRA was gone until after I moved 800 miles away from my friends and imediate family.
I have a reason to bitch. All of my favorite servers for all my favorite games are going away, my girlfriend is 800 miles west, my closest friends 800 miles east. I'm in the middle of ****ing no where and I, personally, don't enjoy any of the servers I'm on. Sadly, Maybe I just don't enjoy the game anymore...
I've never seen a car engine blow up in the game to begin with... let alone believe that the engine will do anything other than just stop running.
Personally I'd rather wait to see if Scawan (sorry if i spelt wrong... o.o tired) would put that in himself. Specifically engines blowing XD mmm black smoke that you cant see through... ^_^
Ok, i love it. Definetly much more refined. I know i'm sounding picky, but I just want this to be the best it could possibly be. :3 Cause it's that awesome.
Bug #1) when you flip, the new system works WONDERFULLY, though it's a bit rough. Just saying. It goes from one extreme to the other when upside down. Anychance to smooth that out a little? Just wondering.
Bug #2) You can not use the track editor thing. > > At least... I couldn't. I got an exception from it... and it kept popping me back to my normal view. Probably could be fixed by pausing after pressing Shift + U and then restarting upon pressing another keybind
Bug #3) There is no Bug #3. It's just an awesome program ^_^
Instead of, say, spending 30 dollars on a trophy for a league race, lets say the league could us a lfs-created program to make a trophy using an easy to use modeling program, and if they so chose to could even import from 3DS max... then upload it to a league server where, if a person gets 1st place, they get a trophy.
and then they get a nice little LFS-based trophy room. To share with all their families and friends, who will beleive they have no life.
But he/she will still feel proud, especially if he wins the entire series and gets $3000 out of it...
Ok. it worked wonderfully. I had to run the program as an administrator or it wouldn't stay open on Vista.
Though I do have something I noticed.. when looking left or right, it didn't do the smoothing thing it usually does. It just looked directly left or right. Is that part of the code or did i forget to set that somewhere... ?
One thing i did try to test (because i figured you didn't code for it ) is that when you flip the car... > > you spin around.... o.o like... your vision goes in a complete circle...
> > maybe if you could create a maximum degree, and when it's behind that degree you kind of just... go back to your normal view or something.... ? cause currently my neck is at a 90 degree angle in game
Last thing i noticed is that if the outsim loses connection at all, the view will stay at the last view sent in by the program until the program reconnects eg. I took a screenshot on 2 wheels, then the view got stuck like that for about 2-5 seconds.
but other than those slightly detailed problems, it's working pretty good..
(not just with side roll, but with front roll as well)
but you might want to set limits... XD one time i ramped and i was facing up at my ceiling XD
