Quote from UncleBenny :I've seen this argument so many times and I don't get it. You know the curb is going to end, why don't you get back on the track before the curbing ends? It is a normal line to use curbing on turn exit, it is not a normal line to stay on the curbing until you're in the dirt. You go in the dirt, you get a 1x, why do people complain about this?

Iracing is 'international racing' therefore should be run under an international rules concesus; the fia being the closest to that, under no circumstances would that be a penalty, also if its the best line its the best line, end of.

It should not be called a 'safety rating' it should be renamed a more accurate 'conform rating'

I hate to say it, im a 1 year sub, radical driver (hense about £160 in) running top 5's various wins, top 250 road racer, 4th in div champs.

but....

iracing is not great!

essentially it is a drift sim; 'super gpl', every single car reacts the same way, just exagerated for the car simulated.

As the origonal poster says, the control input is designed ONLY for preasure sensative brakes and pedals that can be preloaded (phyically) as there is a 10% deadzone that is unremovable (both bottom and top)

but thats not my main gripe, its the sound, after 3 months i still get no feedback from the sound, infact i would say i get negative feedback, only the engine tone is of any use, there is essentially no difference to the tyre sounds for underbraking, overbraking, optimal sliding (front or rear) and over the limit sliding, ive learned to use visual cues and grinding the physical actions into my brain needed to maintain control.

on the track authenticity, its there but in a gpl visual style, no detail at all in the road, bumps can be massive but you cant see them, no scrape marks or anything like that, in the radical that is the worst as there is an obvious bug in the way it handles bumps, you end up kangarooing front and rear, its looks hilarious, i'd be embarased if i were iracing, therefore you cant even avoid them until you train yourself where they are.

The general physics you can see are there but it is no more polished than lfs is in that respect.

Network lag is also much worse than lfs, to be within a car length of someone can be quite dangerous, in lfs i can drive inches away from other drivers. Iracing the cars behave like they are on elastic bands, not the worst ive seen but not the best either.

'Safety Rating' in the most part i agree with it, but it punishes everyone regardless of fault, eg someone comes pilling into t1, everyone he hits gets a '4x' sr hit, also the two wheels off track is stupid, its set at the centre line which you think would be ok, but it fails to take into account if you run along a curb and just clip the dirt at the end of the curb, instant 1x sr hit, i dont run leguna because the line i want to take (quite normal racing line) would involve me getting a 1x penalty every single lap.

So as you can see im quite negative about it, but at the same time i can see its potential and im sticking with it for one more radical season, that will take me to late summer, if it hasnt massively changed (in developer direction) then i can see no future for myself in this sort of enviroment.

As the origonal poster pointed out, the developers dont see the 'bigger' picture and only want to serve the greggor huttu type of 'professional sim'er' (no disrespect to greggor) i think they might just be changing though, we'll see.

Also there has been cheating already (illegal setups in oval racing) so we'll see how that develops too.

This is just an opinion of course and i know many people who think iracing is perfect, they are just as entitled to that opinion too.

keep up the good work, make sure theres at least 10 coats of laquer (sp?) so you can shine it to the nines

Ive been thinking about this post since it was first put up and the answer is........ 42!

btw my opinion is that there should be a limited setup option, not a fixed setup option (ie tyre presures, toe, fluffy dice etc still adjustable)

Nice post funnybear, i must admit than when the fbm first came out, i made that macro within days, so im maybe the first to use it, but i never acually told anyone about it as i didnt think it was important, so i might of actually been doing it before anyone else

I must point out again, when i go in the small gti etc i just use auto clutch and occationally try full manual clutch, usually with comical consequences

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know, now that i have stopped using it and have modified my pedal for shorter travel, i have beat pb's on the two different types of track i have run on since (AS North, FE Green), so as i thought on the fbm it makes you slower, argument for H shifters is still valid though.

Practice is everything, experimenting with a goal (rather than random) and most important is 'feel' and that only comes naturally and cannot be taught, but i think everybody eventually can get the 'feel' its just to what extent.

Just to reiterate it, on the fbm it is a disadvantage (probably no more than .1-.2 secs) and it heats the clutch up badly if you dont do a extended lift every change, my situation is probably unique though as im using it to save my foot.

with my clutch 'macro' i can neither get a faster change or a flat change or a reliable change over anyone else. If the fast button clutch system is removed all i will do is shorten my gas pedal throw even further to compensate, so it doesnt matter to me if its there or not i will adapt.

Of course for the h shift cars i think it would definately be considered 'cheeky' as minimum and unfair at worse, i think if scawen just stops the button clutch speed (engauge speed, leave disengauge for anti-stall) a little it would combat the problem straight away

Hi Guys,

I need to add to this debate, due to me using a button clutch 'macro' when im using the FBM, years ago i damaged my right foot and it gives me problems when i use it a lot, up untill the fbm i had no problems 'lift shifting' but after about 20mins in the fbm my foot kills me because of the fast and long vertical movement, i already have my gas pedal calibrated so that i only use the bottom two thirds to help me with lifting.

Anyway to cut a long story short i use a 'clutch down, shift button down, delay, shift button up, delay, clutch up' macro, this allows me to do a 'half lift' shift, but and a big but! it actually makes me slower at changing gears because the fbm changes gears fast, my delays actually slow the change and also heat the clutch, so much so that i have to put my gearing much closer than i would normally run and be carefull on the timing of my foot down.

So the moral of this story is that macro's are not all bad and for performance, mine is for personel comfort, am i cheating?

BTW all other cars i run auto clutch or h shift with clutch.

Its a pity that we cant have mirrored circuits too, that would give 4 options to each combo.

I like the fact that the circuits are used both ways, its only in that last year that i have been driving the reversed circuits.

Scawen,

Just to let you know that your update is so good i didnt notice i'd still got my video card set to 400Mhz as i was still getting above 100fps (3870XT normally set to 900 for gaming) and 90% of all pit outs caused no glitch AT ALL!

Thanks for the great work

Didnt play much at all the 2nd half of last year, then i started driving cars i wouldnt normally, the xfg using the shifter (and having good if not comical races with tristan doing the same) then getting to grips with my nemisis the xrg, and finally learning how to setup and drive the fbm, i was strugling greatly with it as i was trying to set it up and drive it like a fox.

So my advise is try and master something that you struggle with or dont do normally

Quote from Scawen :
Also it's a crappy old car like students used to have when I was a student (late 80s / early 90s). One where you might need to kick it or hit the starter motor with a hammer before it would start. Or maybe you'd have to push it. And randomly things would not work and then they'd work again for no reason. And you'd just hope everything worked when you took the car for its annual MOT test. That is a banger.

Ive found some of ciph's code!

Public Class Knob

'*** Bestist code in the world, by super me ***

Private Interface Functions

Sub Boast(ByRef Exagerate As Double)

Function Enlarge(ByVal Big as boolean) As Inch '*** Inch is a Single Byte object in measurements of One inch divided by 256

Function Insert(ByVal Enter as boolean) As Success '*** Primary Function, usually through the backdoor

Sub ExtendUsage(ByVal DoublePleasureTime as ThinkOfSonyaFromEastenders) '*** Adds 5 seconds to duration

End Interface

.......

End Class

This is purely for scawen's entertainment, The speed that he can change and add things prove that his code is well organised and flexable, i can see no critasism that could ever be thrown at him for sloppy code. I hope you dont mind me currupting this thread with further rubbish

Ive got my G25 set to 240 Deg's, i bought it for the pedals not the 900 deg's, i think the main problem with the wheel you boaught is that it is combined axis for the pedals, any logitech (momo,dfp,g25) will solve this problem (not that you have got that far yet )

Sorry about my English, im english

Your engish is fine, practice by having a 10 forum page argument with tristan Say wheels are round or something

Im from a GPL backgroud, then to RS2, these two sims were as far apart as you could get, GPL with turn in understeer but big slip angles, and RS2 with no slip angles to play with, easy lockups and tyre wear to watch for.

GPL gave me more of what i use in LFS as a style, RS2 gave me the discipline and consistancy Im not the fastest guy in the world but i do have the ability to setup a car how i like it, that is; Fast turn in, even with trail braking and sure footed corner exit with a slight four wheel drift. I do 'throw' the car at the apex a bit, but that is because of the GPL in me, another thing GPL gave me was the ability to think i can run any line i wish (due to the side by side racing at monza and spa etc), so im not scared to hold on to the outside of people etc.
