My buddy and I have created a new tradition of going full tilt down the street where you live, yanking the ebrake at top speed and bailing when the car is facing backwards. As a rule, that is the only way you can enter your safehouse.

Anyone else notice that when you're in your car listening to your radio and the cell phone's about to ring, it even sounds the little "ticks" induced in the amplifier before the phone rings?

Wow. You have been ridiculously meticulous in your work and it's paid off, BIG time. Looks incredible.

I'm Jeff Barlot with Consumer Reports; now let's look at this test in slow motion.

I want to shoot that guy.

I think I know what happened. He forgot his torque wrench, so he toarked his lugs till they broke then backed off a quarter turn.

It's a popular method.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Do you even have a bloody clue what you're even saying?
1) I'm sure the LFS dedi software isn't gonna close the server because of "/msg BLAHHHHHHH" because all that would do, if the guy was admin would be to output "BLAHHHHHHHH" as a message, and that wouldn't work unless he was an admin.

Um... preeettttyyy sure he was joking...

Probably because it's your avatar.

Got it awhile ago, currently have an Alfa, Z06 and Ascari. I'm doing the delivery missions and in a few more I'll have a McLaren F1...

Gotta love the perfect rev-matching whenever they shift for manuals... at least they have the option to disable autoclutch...

Awesome, looking forward to some more track guides, even though I dig the TBO cars more than single seaters...

Quote from raizde2 :
Is it possible to run the bf1 using clutch to start but not to change gear like RL? (same for GTR)

The clutch is not needed for shifting the BF1, so yes, you can do this. I think it's required for the GTR cars though.

Quote from MAGGOT :The FOX I'm not sure about, but I'm willing to bet that F1 drivers and F3000 drivers don't lift off the throttle when tapping the 'up' paddle. The computer should do that for them, I'd imagine. That's how they get 50-millisecond shifts.. I think.

I'm not sure how old this info is, but I seem to recall F1 drivers only have to lift 10% off the throttle when shifting.

Quote from Lateralus :So of LFS's current carset, which should realistically require the use of a throttle cut to prevent engine damage? Surely at least the three formula cars normally flatshift?

I don't think any cars should require throttle cut. Do you really want to make LFS more intrusive? A much better way of dealing with the issue is to model clutch heat--when you powershift or flatshift consistently, in road cars at least the clutch will heat up a lot and lose grip. Eventually if you continue flatshifting (like after 10-15 times consecutively) your clutch won't even be able to hold the torque your engine puts out and will start slipping whenever you go WOT.

Maybe for things like drifting servers you could have the option to turn it off.

Possible transmission damage would be another repellent, but IMO clutch heat would be the best idea.

Quote from Mykl :If I don't have access to a fancy shock dyno, which I don't, here's how I tune my dampers on my own car...

1. Set dampers to full soft on bump and rebound.
2. Do a lap or three, note how the car absorbes mid corner bumps.
3. If car is "choppy" over mid corner bumps, +bump
4. After adjustment, repeat until car rides smooth over mid corner bumps.

5. After setting bump, note weight transfer speed.
6. If car rolls too quickly, and feels "floppy", +rebound
7. After adjustment, repeat until the car's weight transfers in a controlled manner

I haven't tested this in LFS yet, but it's worked quite well for my own car and is basically Koni's recommended method for dialing in double adjustable dampers. I'm not a fan of constantly changing my damper settings, so I consider this aspect to be mostly "set it and forget it." Obviously they get readjusted if I introduce different compound tires or spring rates to the equation.

My real world experience suggests that it's not entirely worth trying to adjust the car's balance with the dampers. I personally have had better luck with this by tweaking spring rates, bars, and tire pressures. I have played with the damper settings to adjust my car's transient response, but the difference is often negligible and can introduce other negative side effects that go along with too much or too little dampening than what the spring actually needs.

<OT>

Ahhh, I wish Koni made DAs for my car... alas, only SAs, and the ones I have now must be removed to adjust. What do you drive?

As I see it, "flatshifting" is shifting with your foot off the floor and "powershifting" is letting off, but gassing as you let the clutch out, like you're trying to break traction in the next gear.

I don't like either one of them. I don't like the sensation they produce, I don't like the unpleasant sound they produce, I don't like the fact that there is no consequence. But I still do it, because I also don't like losing races.

Please, transmission damage modeling and clutch heat modeling...

Used my EMU 0404 USB and Beyerdynamic '05 DT990s. Soundstaging FTW!

I'm a bit of a headphone junky so it's nothing new, but it was decently cool (besides the horrible lines they deliver).

Wow, can you say "positive live camber?" Only under dive, I know...

Anyway, here's mine. Doesn't look too special, just a '97 Maxima SE 5 speed.

Drivetrain is stock, 190hp 205ftlbs VQ30DE and about 3000lbs flat.

However, I have Konis, Progress springs and rear sway bar, a custom 4-point lower tie bar/brace, front strut bar, and Z32TT rear wheels (16*8.5) all around, sporting 245/45ZR16 Hankook RS2s.

Oh yeah, I made me some custom lights as well.

I don't know what to say. What would you do if you were admin and someone called you an idiot?

If I wanted the place to be respectable, I wouldn't drive like a moron and wouldn't be called an idiot in the first place. Blaming seven different things on lag and then banning the accusing party from not only your server but your forum is not only childish, it's abuse of power.
