Yes, I have not played LFS in a while since I have been waiting for the new tire physics, but the wait is getting longer and longer.
I am actually excited about Gran Turismo 5 though. I pre-ordered the collector's edition coming out on 11/2/2010. I have always loved the GT series, but the physics were too simple to me. I think the physics of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue are pretty good when you set it to professional mode for the physics. The problem is that the AI drivers use the standard physics so in order to beat them for the last S class races, I had to use the easier standard physics. Hopefully for GT5 the final version, they change that.
Yeah, they do not know what the hell they are doing. I asked all these questions about the setup he kept telling me it was the default. What good is that?!
This "tournament" is making the game look so bad to new players due to the setup. The practice pit had a different setup so when players tried to go to the competition, it would screw them up. Different employees told me different answers for the same thing.
This was at the Video Game Expo (VGXPO) in Philadelphia, PA by the way. I got 2nd place on Sunday. I screwed up royally. I could not hear the engine or tires at all. I got a 1:01:72 while practicing at home and a 1:09:28 at the event. The winner had 1:07:?? time. I gave the guy tips on how to prevent the engine braking from ruining a nice lap and he beats me. No thanks, nothing. They let kids dick around so it prevented me from playing more than once on Sunday even after I was told I would be allowed to play one more time. I am so pissed. Intel organized the event.
The prize was an Intel Core2 Duo Extreme 3.2 GHz Quad Core CPU.
I am using the Race_S setup. The competition using a setup similar to this. They do not allow people to adjust the setup so I have to learn to be faster on this setup. They only allow 2 laps with no warming up of the tires, unless you take advantage of the first lap.
I have been playing for a while with the numerous cars, but I turned into more of a drifter after I got the hang of it. I even tried it out in real life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vCwx_YpGuQ&fmt=18
The reason I am using automatic is because I am practicing for a competition and they have the BMW Sauber F1 car in automatic. My best time so far on Blackwood normal is 1:02:86. I see that people have gone faster than that. I am using the Race_S setup. The competition using a setup similar to this. They do not allow people to adjust the setup so I have to learn to be faster on this setup.
I checked my pedals and they are calibrated fine. I set the Display settings to show the pedals. I see that throttle is auto-blipped for the driver while up shifting and down shifting. The throttle is slightly depressed while braking too. That is why I do not understand why the car is so unstable during braking and turning at the same time.
I have been searching the forums with no luck. With automatic and traction control on, the BMW Sauber F1 car tends to not rev match accurately and it causes me to spin out. It happens more often during braking, but it even happens during acceleration. It happens as a sudden spin out.
This issue is so frustrating since it happens randomnly. I cannot figure out how to prevent it. I thought the auto clutch would heel-and-toe automatically.
I was using an H-Shifter at the time for the road cars. I did not know that it could shift without the clutch. I guess it has a sequential gearbox. I dislike having to switch my controls back and forth between the road cars and the Formula cars.
I tried it right now and I can only see about 45° without moving my head from a straight ahead position, but with my head at 45° I can move my eyes the extra 45° more.
Well I did have issues with the BMW FB02 car, when I was quickly H-shifting, but that was because I was giving gas too soon after I changed gears. I adjusted my timing of clutch and gas and it does not happen anymore. I tried the same "bad" quick technique on a real car and I smelled clutch soon after, so this shows that this game is realistic. Wow, I am now a better real driver too. I only have problems when I try to shift fast, with normal driving and normal shifting on roads (in real life), I have no problems.
Live for Speed taught me how to power shift! It warned me I was doing something wrong since virtual clutches were overheating. I tried my old method in a real car and the clutch smell greeted me after getting out of an unfamiliar car. While shifting fast, I had a tendency to hit the throttle too soon. I only had to adjust my timing.
I realized that driving a crappy 2002 Saturn manual transmission gave me bad habits since the transmission is so "slippery". When driving in a car that had a better transmission feel, my timing is off.
I love the hidden message. Haha.
Maybe they had to custom order a specific shape of rubber? I thought the default brake feel for a G25 was good. I have the Act Labs pedals and it has a rubber ball to simulate the feel of a brake pedal. It feels pretty realistic and I wonder if the G25's pedal set is similar or not.
As stated by the first post, I have gotten the BMW FB02 car's clutch to overheat. It is possible. I have since learned how to drive it without overheating the clutch though. It just takes more practice for people with a manual analog clutch.
I also felt like the clutch was too sensitive to damage as I drove as I do in real life speed shifting and I did not have a problem in real life. Another problem is that our controllers do not have a friction point so it is hard to tell when to push on the gas. Clutch slipping is seen as the temperature rises. It looks like I need to learn driving all over again with clutch.
The CT damage gauge shows wear and temperature.
The length of the bar shows wear and the color shows temperature.
EDIT: I learned how to avoid wear on the clutch right after posting this. Haha. It just means I have to adjust my driving style and skill. :-)
