Yes, we both did. I read all of that once when I tried to set it up. GTA IV does not support wheel control, that's all I wanted to say. You have to download an extra program (so it's not my fault but an issue of GTA IV) and if you have no G25 (see the thread openers budget) you can not be sure if that even works. Somebody with a Momo said the deadzones are still there.
I can't try it out at the moment because I lent the game to a friend.
As I have already written (so you must have read) a dead zone remains in steering that cannot be removed. A Rockstar support member on the forum suggested to reduce max. rotation in the profiler to about 144°. That of course reduces also the dead zone but does not erase it.
I would very much like to try GTA IV with my wheel because the physics look very believable. Still even if the dead zone would be fixed, there would still remain a problem: Steering/throttle is not directly transmitted.
As you stand still and steer full left the wheels turn to about 40°. If you go 100mph and steer to the full left the wheels turn to about 5°.
The same with throttle: Hit it in still stand and you get lots of wheel spin. Go about 100mph, slide sideways and step on the gas: Nothing will happen.
That's because controls have been optimised for thumb sticks and digital buttons where it works without doubts really good.
i've played all but GTA IV.
from GTA 3 up worked with the wheel. and because i haven't played GTA IV i was unable to state the "it works on GTA IV".
EDIT: just found this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=394430 so you can play GTA IV with a wheel
I did because it is possibly the most common part of the series that is played on PC. However wheel won't properly work in GTA IV so you cannot generally say you can use it in GTA. That is just not fair.
but buying a wheel means you can use it in all games that use cars. you can use your wheel on GTA also.
Sorry to say but: Please, take that back!
You cannot properly use a wheel in GTA IV. Not only that it's not just plug&play (you have to read through endless forum posts) but still if you finally have set it up properly for the game you still have a very irritating deadzone in the steering that made me give up trying to use my wheel there.
Regarding the opening post: Having a proper wheel for 20 bucks may become very difficult. I only had/have experience with two wheels.
My first one was a Logitech Formula Force EX. It featured two analog pedals, force feedback, nearly 200° rotation and many buttons. Overall that would be what I'd recommend you. Problem was that it did not last very long, the wheel grew backlash (if that's the right word) and the pedals started sending input without my feet pushing them down.
What I got after was the Logitech G25 you don't want to know I guess.
Now my conclusion is: Force feedback is a must and... keep your pay check!
Finally! It's done! After working for almost four weeks pretty much every day, I present thee Garage Boso XRT!

..I think my next skin will be a little less complex..
Yeah, take a break from this!^^ Again I really like the accuracy and attention to detail. This is one of the best skins I have seen on the forum yet. BTW you mind me editing a screenie of this?
Wow... You seriously want to spend 500 bucks to hang something to your wall so you don't have to wait 5 minutes for you computer to boot? God you're a tool.
I had a wallpaper of a silver painted Type 47 with a really subtle, sexy wide body, a wing and black rims. Though instead of poison it felt more like automotive heaven.
That's not pretty clever to do, you know? Lately the generator on my car did not work, so even though I charged the battery and the engine started I did not drive the car until there was that generator replaced...
The point is that for there to be a distinct GT2 class it pretty much has to be "laughably" slow. If the top level of GTRs in LFS had around 600hp (in line with FIA GT1 class stuff) then the lower class could have 400-450hp (fairly well in line with FIA GT2, instead of the ~350hp they have now.
Of course it is not really the dev's fault, the community created the GT2 class, but the devs are really the only ones who can make this all work out.
Don't know if my post was confusing but I don't think you understood mine as I wanted. Who sais the LFS GTR class must resemble FIA GT1 classements?
The community uses this LFS GT2 classement widely and successfully. If LFS GT2 is too slow for somebody he should probably race normal GTRs.
If there are 10 or so people who would like a race with faster cars... The only things they need are an own server/a cooperative admin and some kind of LFS Tweak.
That's all well and good, but the GT2 class we've created from LFS's GTR crop is pathetically slow. A 150 MPH top speed is laughable.
That has not much to do with LFS development. The GT2 as I see it was never intended by the devs. Saying GT2 is too slow and should be faster is not an improvement suggestion for further LFS releases.
The GTRs are dog slow compared to the real thing... at best, they would barely keep up with a real GT2-spec car.
I don't know what "the real thing" is you are speaking from but I think the GTR's are pretty damn fast and I assume GT2 has been introduced for many other people feeling the same.
Less power in the same car makes racing closer, safer and reduces drivers stress. If people aren't (already) comfortable with the standard GTRs let them have races with GT2 cars.
