Quote from eRaptor :
How can someone ever think using the cockpit view will make LFS more realistic?!

It's absolute bullshit it doesn't make it any more realistic, it may not be 1:1 which is never going to be possible anyway, but it's closer than having your eyes 6 meters behind the car isn't it?

And reduce the amount of capitals and exclamation marks please. You can so easily come across as a real wanker that way.

Actually I would say that, that is probably true of any driving game that calls itself a "Simulator".

Yes that was what I was saying. Simulator being the key word.

Quote :As I say, each to his own, - but lets not pretend its a level playing field eh?

If we were both using cockpit view, it still would not be fair would it?

Well of course it's never going to be equal, but you can level it out a bit with small things.

Quote from zeugnimod :If that's the only way LFS is meant to be played why is there an option for chase view? As long as there is an option to use chase view I will drive in that way

I knew you would come up with that.

Point is, LFS is supposed to be a simulator. You do not drive a real car behind it, it doesn't have the same challenge than from cockpit. I'm not saying it's easier, I'm saying it's unrealistic.

I can't tell why it's still there, maybe as a way to easily get the dimensions of the car as you can't physically walk around it. Maybe because all driving games have always had it, maybe because that's the easiest way to count the amount of exhaust pipe your XRT has. I seriously have no idea, but it seems that cockpit view is getting more attention by the devs. Move to cockpit view now and start learning it, so you don't have to moan and bitch about it if it gets removed. You might actually get faster in the long run, have a try, it's not that you can get much slower is it?

Quote :If you have fun driving that way, then just do it. But don't tell others how they are supposed to play.

It's about having equal playing ground with the same view, not having possible advantages and having something that resembles real life view this beating the dead horse is all about.

Quote from zeugnimod :OMG. Best "argument" yet.

Please, try proving me wrong with a sensible counter argument if it is that easy and my comment is such a lousy "argument".

Quote :Just let people have fun with this game (oh, I said the bad word ) the way they want it. What's so hard about that?

No. Arcade fun for the "realism nazi club" is intolerable. The fun comes from the challenge and having equal playground. Blind spots are one of those challenges. I've seen very fast racers who cannot get their head around the concept, and fail with epic proportions.

Quote from fujiwara :Who said follow cam's don't pay attention ? You see, i ear.
Don't tell me when you got into an accident you press the F12 key, if he's using follow, burn him, if's not he's just a normal noob ...
There's is a lot of blind spots too, a lot, that's why i mention that stupid angle, where the car is so far ahead.
What you are doing is labeling people.

No, I was wondering if the camera angle can affect how people drive. Thinking out loud, provoking some opinions. I did not say it does. Or that was I was trying to, reread my post and stress the question marks. :P

Quote :The talk about real experience is rubbish, i could say the same about people using, pads, joysticks, mouses, keyboards, wheels with 2 pedals, etc.

Yes, and I would. Anything but a wheel is not a way of controlling a car.

At some point the car that you don't see, must have been in your MIRROR, if you can't see it no more and he's not in front of you, i'm pretty sure you know were it is.

Of course I do. Because I've learn to pay attention what is going on behind me. But if I hadn't, I could use chase view and constantly ignore what is going to happen, and what the car behind is going to do soon and stop guessing if the car is beside me because I can see it where in cockpit I had a blind spot. Going side by side to a corner I will probably going to play it safe and lift if I can't see the car I had in my mirrors moments ago.

Continuing from that. I can't help thinking if the view can actually have effect on how you overtake. At least I try to think if the car in front can see me. I take granted he is using cockpit view because I'm using that myself, and try to show myself according to that. But do chase view drivers think what it's like from the cockpit view? Or do they accidentally put themselfs to impossible places they can't be seen because they think from the chase view?

Quote :That follow view angle is very good to make your proof, push it back, and you don't the other car too.

That should be the default chase view angle I think. I'm not sure though. But I don't understand what you mean by pushing it back more. Shouldn't you see even more like that? The other way I guess, but why would anyone use a view like that you can see more of your own car...

My main point was blind spots anyway, and I think it can be a major factor. And if you are not using the cockpit view, you are not having the LFS experience like it's meant to.

Quote from The Very End :The answer below pretty much descibes it, I`m talking about the physics. You don`t gain any physics advatages by using a other camera angel.

Rubbish. You obviously haven't driven from cockpit view a lot have you? Especially not the FBM.

Racing is so much about knowing where your opponents are so you don't cause a crash. The attachment should prove this and how the Jesus view can be a huge advantage. To pull on the left side of the road or not is the question?

And btw, it's angle. Angels have wings, fly and play harps.

Quote from The Very End :Yeah sure.
Like we`re gaining any advatages. We can see further ahead yes, but that isn`t anything drastically. What about those mirrows that you have?

The advantage of the mirrors is debatable. If i recall correctly, the side mirrors are just the rear view mirror split in two parts (or the rear mirror is the side mirrors combined). So basically, all of us have the same mirror, yours is just floating in mid air.

Entry speed to a turn may be helpful, but only if you plan on being a rally navigator.

The speedometer in a rally car on the stages is probably more useless than in a track car to be honest. You are sliding around and the tires spin all the time so you won't know the real speed. Rally drivers drive by pure estimate of the road conditions and the notes.

The sole purpose of speedometer in a rally car, is to help the driver stay within the speed limits so the police doesnt' have to pull you over, and put you in jail when you are driving down to services or the next stage.

I think.

I got 50 euros from my parents.

We have a agreement in the family that we do not buy any gifts, and concentrate on good food and just hanging around. To be honest, Christmas is starting to feel too twisted, wrong and sick for me. People eating more than they need, gorging with treats and spending huge amounts of money on useless junk every year only because someone has convinced them that it's what you are suppose to do. I'm not the sort of man who usually thinks the poor hungry children of the world, but today I felt awful sitting on the dinner table with all the food in front of us, feeling too full to move.

Quote from atledreier :Well.... I've seen alot of 'lets destroy this engine' videos on youtube, and most of them get real boring.. It takes quite some time with an enginge bouncing off the limiter for it to even show signs of distress. I'd think you'd have to REALLY abuse your engine for it to be damaged. Especially in the road cars. The race cars are closer to the structural limit and will damage more easily if abused. I guess water and oil temperatures will take care of that. rigth now revs is the only parameter we have to damage the engine by.

But those videos I think you are talking about are always about just reving the engine on the limiter. And after all, because the limiter is there to protect the engine it does take a while.

The damage the topic starter is talking about, is damage you would have when down shifting a gear or two too much. And when you go over the rev limiter, it should really damage engine.

Scawen has mentioned doing a rework of the engine simulation I think. It should definitely include a proper damage I guess, but it could take a while we have it.

Quote from LFSn00b :S2 ei maksa kun 36€, ja S1 on puolet siitä, S1:sesä kyllä on tuo XRT ja kiihdytys suora

Where have you been, there is no XRT in the demo anymore.

/Finnmode

S2 maksaa tämänhetkisellä punnan kurssilla 33,20 euroa. Erittäin edullinen, lähes ilmainen, pelin pitkäikäisyyteen verrattuna.
(= S2 costs 33,20€ with the current exchange rate. It's very cheap, almost free, compared to the life of the game)

Easy if you are using paddle shifters and know the keyboard well enough not having to look what to press. You can upshift on your right hand down the straight and just type with your left.

But recently I've found out that when using H-gate it is almost impossible to type anything because you need your right arm to shift gears and left to keep the car on the road. Of course, you can type between the shifts but I just can't do that very well, and it might take a few laps to make a sentence.

Slower cars might help though. Or oval.

My precious title!

It's still hard to believe I won something. I would really like to thank my team for the support which made it possible. Fools letting me beat them with their own setups.

Thank you. Good season, good fights and good racing!

Feels funny to read that people are so nervous, I can't really much feel a thing nowdays, sometimes in qualifying, but it has to be four wide in a big race before my heart starts to beat. Kinda shame really. I guess you get used to everything over time. Kind of reminds me to think about reasons for mistakes people make, and are blamed for.

But I do remember the good old days when my feet and hands were shaking, and heart was beating like mad when I was leading a race. And the first win, I was a nervous brakedown.

Oh, the good old demo days and the XRT with two pipes.

Of course now comes the trouble, Man was in the house = Mies oli talon sisällä (llä, wtf?) so you need to take time and learn every bit so that you can speak even remotely right

Eh? Perfect Finnish, what are you on about? Talon sisässä/sisällä, the same thing. "Sisällä talossa" might sound better though, but the shortest version would be "mies oli talossa" and I think that if something can make people used to articles a bit confused.
