I'd just like to take this time to remind people that you can go into User CP, then Buddy / Ignore lists and add any user to the ignore list so you don't have to see their posts.

The vote ban could be reduced to something like an hour, enough so that the offender if they were guilty would have to find something else to do or if it was an innocent person they could come back in not much time.

Trying to develop a system where it can't be exploited by lazy/not smart people is a very hard problem. The recent changes seems to take the approach that it's better to ban an innocent person than allow a guilty person to go unbanned, which of course sucks for the innocent person who gets banned because of the lower threshold.

It's also good to note that only the people who had bad experiences are going to post here, all of the wreckers that did get banned justly aren't likely to come onto the forum complaining that they got banned for wrecking.

It's scavier's project so they can do it however they like, but I do think adding ONE more developer on the programming side would increase overall productivity significantly. Of course it would have to be someone as dedicated to the vision of LFS as they are and someone as skilled as Scawen, so it would be a fair amount of work just finding such a person. There are many parts of the engine that could be developed parallel to one another, such as while Scawen improves multiplayer/AI code the second person could be working on a graphical update.
But as stated before, why would they want to do this? They have already stated they aren't in any kind of rush to get LFS done.

I know it's not LFS' style, but I was just wondering, how much would a commercial on say the SPEED channel cost? That would get some publicity, Forza 2 did all kinds of marketing.

The bad:

* Replays not up to GT standards
* Graphics don't have that last percent of polish
* Only 300 cars

Only 300!!??? We seem to get by fine with just 19

Quote from Jertje :Regardless of how cool and innovative it *looks*, it's still a big, expensive gimmick.

I agree, is anyone else not at all impressed with being able to rotate/grow a picture around on the screen? What functionality does this give me that I didn't have before?

So is that a no to a teaser screenshot of what Eric has been working on?

Quote from Scawen :
We've never claimed to be fast and development will always be slower than it was in the early days, as the standard is higher now.

Do you see the LFS team ever growing to include an additional artist or are you satisfied with the progress y'all are making at the moment? or freelance?

And I just want to add that we only bug you for updates and such because we all love LFS and naturally want more of a good thing

I don't think anyone assumed that Eric's job was easy, but shouldn't any artist have something significant to show after working for over a year? If that something significant isn't shown someday people will probably start feeling that they have been misled by the Devs, and as people have mentioned already, start doubting the future of LFS. So my question is, why let that feeling develop and fester in the community when a simple few sentences or a screenshot would satisfy people?

Quote from Becky Rose :

For me it's the other way around, but what do I know? It's not like I have any clue how few programmers you'll find at most games studios in comparison to artists... *pause*

I don't understand your point, there would be fewer programmers than artist, seemingly saying that more people can do that level art than that level programming.

And your example with completing an insim program in a day is like saying that because you can write a Win32 program you would be able to write the OS itself, its just not a valid comparison.

Quote from Becky Rose :That man is the epitome of everything that is wrong in the mainstream computer games industry.

How is John Carmack the epitome of what's wrong in the industry? Doesn't that statement first assume that you know exactly what is wrong with the computer games industry and secondly that you know John Carmack represents exactly that?

To create game ready 3D artistry is a skill that only a tiny proportion of 3D graphics artists are capable of doing,

And programming a fully functioning multiplayer racing sim is a skill an even SMALLER proportion of programmers are capable of doing. Trying to make a comparison of skill in separate fields just doesn't make sense. Besides you said yourself, a small group of people could replicate Eric's work in a short time, even if it wasn't exactly the same quality it would at least be comparable. You think it would easier for that small group to replicate Scawen's work? Hardly.

It is clear the community would like an update(and don't say typing a 30 second message would slow work), a simple message saying he is alive and making progress on something would be appreciated but instead he flips us the proverbial middle finger by ignoring everyone.

Quote from Becky Rose :The fox thing is because your graphics card will only store 1 z-index (distance from camera) for each pixel, but the transparency means that more than one point in distance is visible. The result is that transparent objects that are over other transparent objects can result in miss-renders - it's not really LFS' fault in fairness. One day the graphics card industry will stop putting all their development into pushing more polygons and look at problems like this.

It's not really the fault of the graphics card as the program can work around it by sorting all transparent objects relative to the camera and rendering the farther things back first. While not possible in all cases, it would seem like the transparent parts of the car model could always be rendered after the transparent polygons on the roadway.

That clip reminds me way too much of so many races in LFS. Not in the first turn in the clip where he almost takes the leader completely out, but manages to finish the job in the next corner(he is in the silver car)

I paid mainly to help support LFS, but as some of the comparison screenshots show the higher res makes skins much more readable and just makes good skins look better. I have extra computing power to throw at it so why not.

When you are in the pits after spectating(spectating then hit shift+p) should the shift+j shortcut let you join? I think enter will take you to joining but the shortcut doesnt seem to work in the garage.

It is kind of shocking(doesn't show directly but depicts person getting crushed), but no real gore. Would have been better if the car wreck didn't look so fake.

What is it with people and dodging a dog? Sure go hard on the brakes, but I would hit the dog rather than going off the road.

The police spokesman said the offences carry a maximum one-year prison sentence.

Sounds like the one year sentence is just on endangering traffic and abandoning the accident, I'm sure if they get them for manslaughter it will be much more
