I think there is a difference in terminology here also, alpha/beta/final as applied to most software products is not the same as what Scawen uses to describe LFS. So when you paid for an S2 license you bought access to the current content, I looked at the purchase page and I didn't see anywhere that promised a final(in the terms that you and not the devs judge)version of the game.
There are definetly things that need work in LFS, it is obviously a WIP, but I have faith in Scawen and his choices on what to develop when. Saying things like insim are pointless and a waste of time just seems a bit short sighted.
I understand how some of the posts here are upset with the slow progress in some areas of the game(content), but I would have to disagree with the attitude that the devs still fundamentally owe us something, they have already delivered for the price I have paid.
I don't know about you people, but I just enjoy racing, there's a reason I have played LFS more than any other game I have ever played, it is simply fun, and continues to be that for me. So here's to another year of great developments and racing action!
An automatic LOD reduction when there are many cars are on screen would be a great feature, like I mentioned in another thread my comp will go from 92fps constantly to 30 when I can see all the cars on screen at once. I am not sure what part of my graphics card it is maxing with the cars to drop like that, are the car models that detailed?
Did anyone notice the small problem that the whole reason Tully is going is to get his wife back, the chick who joined him said she was kidnapped for the race a long time ago and her parents died trying to complete the race, so doesn't that mean they just let her go after the race? Why wouldn't they do the same for Tully's wife? The repeat shots of them driving down the same section of road over and over and the poor action shots are also getting annoying.
I was just wondering if this happens to everyone else now that we have such large races, if there is a full grid (20+ cars) then when the camera pans around so that almost all of them are in full view the framerate drops significantly? My computer will go from 90+fps constantly to 30-45fps for a ton of cars on screen. In order to get it to not drop I have to set the car lod so low that cars nearby now look horrible.
I have a radeon x1900gt and amd 64 x2 4200
I'm not sure if it did this before, but I just noticed it in this patch, when I was in a replay and would look to the side, when the view returned to looking forward sometimes the cars in front of me would take a split second before they showed up, meaning they would just pop in out of nothingness. It would do this repeatedly even when the same car is always right in front of me.
http://www.cheathappens.com/show_download.asp?ID=22279 is a link to a utility to give you a couple billion dollars(mode 2 worked for me). You get points for owning so many of each kind of cars and stuff, so you can get to the champion level without having to win that many races.
I unlocked hardcore mode(ctrl+g to get the little meter to show), and really wasn't that impressed, it just seemed unpredictable and I would just slide all over the place.
If I run it at 1280x1024 full detail or 800x600 low detail I still get just about the same amount of stutter when entering cities and getting passed by AI cars, it makes it really hard to control the saleen at 240 when the frame rate drops
Anyone know what the fastest car in the game is? I'm still saving up money, I would have over 500k but I probably have paid more than 200k in police fines
It is really annoying that ramming someone head on at 150 gets you in the same amount of trouble as just BARELY scraping their side at 180
I get an occasional frame rate drop, but I think it's more to do with loading new scenery. If you consider the demo to be a 4gb torrent that only lets you try the offline mode, then yeah it's out. I have a copy reserved but it wont come out here for another 2+ weeks.
Anyone else tried this out yet? I have found that the environments even roads are very lowpoly, so when you go over a hill or anything at highspeed you are bounced around pretty badly. Even with all the aids turned off, it still seems way too hard to do a donut, the back end just doesn't want to come around. But overall it seems like a pretty decent driving game, with tons of different cars that you can get.
I can understand why he did this, but it is definetly very childish and a fairly dumb move unless your only goal is to get some quick attention for yourself.
