I'm hoping if someone around here could give me some advice to my problem.

My fathers garage uses autodata and at times the fact that the office is 150 ft from the service bay can be a real pain walking back and forth to grab info and specs from the PC running autodata. They have gone through three(of my)laptops already this year and it is'nt even winter yet with more problems due to rain and moisture getting into the machines. Laptop covers work to some extent but the whole rig becomes cumbersome somewhat and the choice of something smaller is attractive.

I have two spare compaq ipaq h3900 series handhelds running windows pocket PC 2002 and would like to run autodata on them if possible, but how on earth could this be done? I know very little of the in's and out's of programming etc. and all I know at the moment is that windows mobile 2002 only runs CAB files. Is it possible to install software onto such a device when the software was intended for Windows XP?

Would remote desktop be a possability, although I doubt there will be 100% compatability across the screen size and would be awkward to work with...

Suggestions appreciated please.

I jumped the gun a bit. As I was passing Maplin returning from work Friday evening I went in and bought an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP 8x and alas upon my arrival home with screwdriver in hand gazing into the PC that feeling of sickness in my tummy took hold of me.

This is my board apparentley, but rest assured I am quite clear of what I need now.

Am I better off reading up about ram and FSB frequecies and messing with them or will the return be not so great on a low end system such as this and leave them be?

...I'd be surprised if speedfan supported any notebooks let alone yours, the fact it's not reporting on fan speed simply implys that speedfan can't read the sensors for the many many different notebook types out there I assume this is the case.

Do you have pets?

Do you live in apartments?

Is there a pungent smell of shit in the room when the flies arrive?

If the answer is yes then call a professional to spray the place before summer and empty all bins regularly keeping food in air tight containers/bins. Check where the shores for the sewage are and make surethey are closed tight and that there are no sewage pipes running behind your PC monitor.

Then if the're still there, buy an ultra voilet Zzzzapper

it has AGP 8X gfx card slot, its not a great mobo but with a half decent gfx card and maybe upgrade to a pentium should play LFS fine.

What resolution is your monitors native resolution?

Be very carefull overclocking as the temp info is not always correct, and be very carefull overclocking it can kill PCs faster than you think

make sure you download all the latest drivers from the page linked above you might improve performance, maybe not

I have a feeling that Foxconn's software is'nt telling me the whole story as fan speeds can't be controlled, or maybe this is because I selected the wrong mobo to begin with but I would have thought the app covers a range of mobo's and not particular to just one.

Just in case, I have set in bios to not allow anything above 65 celcius but all seems smooth after I cleaned the 2 kilo's of compacted dust from between the cpu fan and heatsink.

So, a cheap as AGP 8X GFX card and some ram and I'll be back on the servers racing again before X-mas *fingers crossed*(Work+kids+social life = no LFS)

Thanks arco, I've used recuva in the past and it works a treat. My problem is I suspect recovering 1TB of data will take some time and at this point would like to know exactly what happened and how to fix it rather that using an app to do it for me.

ATM I'm researching it and will use an app as last resort.

It must be some thing really simple...does every disk have a MBR? and if so could this be my problem?

If all HDD's don't have MBR's where is the data stored relating to the drive?

Running Windows 7 I unplugged the USB from the PC which my external HDD drive was connected too. Google lists a million and one softwares claiming to restore data but I have feeling it's something simple like the filesystem is damaged.

Gparted, when booted up shows the drive as nothing, it won't list size and filesystem type is unknown...

I've at long last kicked my addiction for cheap-ass notebooks and got myself an even worse 'normal' PC with which I will use to play simulations of online racing(LFS). First thing is obviously it has no GFX card, I realised this after about a half hour of searching for the motherboard manufacturer for E-systems(ASUS) for drivers for the GFX cards?

What GFX cards can I use for this motherboard please?

The GHz maker is a Celeron D and OC'd to 3.93GHz it will sit stable under load at 35-45 degrees celcius but this means nothing probably as it's shite to begin with. Do I need a new GHz maker? or will this one do for LFS?

I don't want a system that runs the nuts off GTA IV, I just want something to run LFS at ease.

...don't worry TVE you'll soon get pissed off drinking like a retard after a while - it's good to let off some steam every now and then but don't do as I did and start your weekend on a Wednesday night and drink like a fish till' Monday.

Bottom line is I suppose that we do some very stupid things on the beer and some say you can't blame it for your actions but that's BS, even if you are out for a drink because there's just nothing else to do you will find yourself hanging around and in the wrong types of people.
