90% percent of people here is what, like 15? (considering multiple posts). how many people race lfs on a daily basis? like 1000? I wouldn't call this thread representative
also most of the posts were telling about several applications running in the background, even downloading stg in the background, which I find ridiculous. If you want to play online, close everything except your firewall, everything takes up a little cpu time, a little bandwidth, whatever. you are also messing up other people's races, who cared enough to shut down unnecessary applications.
the only things running besides lfs for me are a firewall and the antivirus software, which has autoscan turned off of course
the only thing bothering me is like mentioned above, when someone is connecting you cannot enter/exit pits, which is annoying as it is usually associated with a lag as well and takes like 5-10 seconds. otherwise LFS's online play is flawless for me.
also, turn on compressed skins, might help reduce stutters.
there was something similar to this back in S1, namely the credits.
however it was nowhere near as complex and relatively hard to achieve to drive your chosen car as the stcc system, and of course you could get credits for offline racing as well.
the concept is similar, but the stcc system serves the purpose much better.
well I am waiting for other replies on this issue, but based on this experiment, max pressure is not that unrealistic (anymore, remember S1?), as it reduces grip considerably.
I would say what was mentioned before already: no tyre sidewall damage.
until that is simulated there will be no reason not to run low pressures to achieve maximum grip.
to be honest I don't think LFS tyre heat model is (that much) off, it is just the sidewall damage simulation that is lacking, which results in these unrealistic pressures. I am always trying to get optimum tyre temperatures across the surface of the tyre, but with camber changes you cannot achieve that as the pressures are way too low, even when using 1.9-2.0 bars the outside and the middle of the tyre are almost even, whereas the inside is a lot hotter, I guess 2.3-4 would do ok for street cars (TBO class especially), but that would reduce grip significantly and would make you really slow, and would take 5-6 or even more laps to get the tyres to optimum temps.
edit: on the high tyre pressure thing: I only saw that with the fox and on oval setups. the fox has downforce and it is easy to drive, however those high tyre pressures do result in very nervous handling. on the oval it is simple: higher pressures=less rolling resistance, thus higher top speed and that is what's needed for ovals.
I dunno but would too high pressures result in the tyre exploding, due to creating too much pressure inside? then it is another thing left to be simulated so it can be avoided
this only makes sense if you are driving like 400-500 km-s, but for the general pick-up racer or non masters of endurance league racer this is of no importance.
and did anyone at all try racing for 6 hours or more twice, with different tyre pressures to see if it was already implemented?
is the game folder and the raw avi destination folder on a different physical disc? I heard that this would also cause lower fps, I just thought maybe this could be the reason why you cannot capture in 32bit mode.
anways, the broadcast is great as always, and even better 'cause now I featured on it as well when you said you wonder what I would be up to in an fxo, perhaps even lapping half of the field was funny
I'd like to point out that there is a search function on the setupfield, with which you can search for keywords (what else? ), entering race or long or similar words will pop up a couple of results.
when uploading a setup, the uploader can decide whether it is a race, a hotlap a drag a drift or a whatever setup, although this is not always used.
You are right that a one button categorisation would be a good feature, but as long as the uploaders don't select the appropriate setup definition this isn't of much use, so the best for you would be to use the search function.
As always, suggestions are welcome, drop a post in our forums or write an email to me (csur at liveforspeed dot hu).
as for my votes:
Site: I don't browse any that much, so I would say the LFS Forum Team: I would say Muroc, as I race with them in the STCC and they are a nice bunch of guys League: STCC for the broadcast and the professional approach in rules and stewarding Person: can't name all of them Apps: I used lfs spectator recently, but the only really useful app I ever found was the analyser for speed
I believe Kimi is the favourite, however this season might resemble those days when the williams was the best car, but somehow they didn't manage to scoop the title easily, like with Damon Hill and JAcques, because Schumi was there fighting and causing trouble (in a good sense I mean, except for Jerez 1997). Kimi will need some time to fit in, I think Alonso will be better at the start, might adapt easier, he might be able to build up a small lead in the championship, but eventually Kimi will turn things over and if the car won't fail him, he will be the champion.
and xaotik your avatar is cool, nice idea, although the country flag is a question mark here, whereas in your avatar it is more like a big dot, isn't it?
hehe, I actually happened to practise for this race a "couple of laps" to create a fast and easy to drive setup (around 150 laps I think) and I had quite a lot of laps in this track from S1 times still with all 3 TBO cars.
oh, nice I thought you messed up the terms, happens to some you know
well then i can fully understand you, I wouldn'T notice much difference between 4x and 16x either, but I wouldn'T go above 4x anyways, no need for that
