Quote from [UKR] Race King :SetupGrid because setupField looks old and boring.

i agree that it's old and boring, but how does that affect the quality of the setups?

I wonder how many of the voters really understood what the poll was about.

had the same last sunday, pretty much cost me the 2nd place in a 61 lap league race. Making actual setup changes and repairing the car makes sense, but just changing the tyre type to another one and repairing the car doesn't.
I think it should be separated somehow.

not that much you can do with the FXO there, try to be more gentle with the throttle. But a general direction is to raise the tyre pressure and lower camber (more positive) on the front tyres. you should check your brakes as well so you do not lock them under braking.

welcome guys, I hope you two will enjoy your stay with us and prove your talents in some of the leagues we enter/plan to enter.

for those who haven't heard about Mike yet, will see he is a worthy addition when you see him driving for us. He just started in the Hungarian LFS league and has some lfs experience to collect yet, but he has the talent to compete with the fastest out there.

anybody remember patch X? The balancing was perfect there for the TBO's.

there is an as national set on our setupfield (link in my sig), you could try that. change the wings so the top speed is around 270-275, while keeping the car balanced and switch to R3's. 15-20 laps are no problem for R3's.

Though you might want to tweak the brake balance to avoid lockups.

Quote from joen :Thank you all for your input

@csurdongulos: yes, I am in doubt about the quad core and I'm considering the E6850 as well.
Would I benefit more from the E6850 than the Q6600 because of the bigger cache?
Thanks for the info about the PSU, will definitely consider that one

So, what's the situation with graphics cards atm? Are nVidia and ATI roughly on the same level? I've used nVidia the most, my latest experience with ATI wasn't too great.

regarding the CPU: you would benefit from the higher frequency, q6600 is supposed to have more cache, doesn't it? I am not sure on that one. but it is not yet worth purchasing a quad core, no games take advantage of it, especially not LFS. For the OS, dual core is enough.

Regarding GFX cards. Nvidia are ahead with their 8800 series, but ATI are somewhat cheaper with the 3850-70 cards, and the factory cooling is also better/quieter. For LFS in that resolution a 3850 with 256 ram is plenty enough, but you might want to get one with 512, just for the sake of it, not much difference in price, but could come in handy for the future.

you would be better of with this CPU for the same price:

http://www.alternate.nl/html/p ... Details.html?artno=HPHI37

Also, get another 1 GB of RAM.

Regarding the video card, if you want the best, buy a geforce 8800GT with 512 RAM (http://www.alternate.nl/html/p ... Details.html?artno=JBXVL1) 270 EUR

But if you want a cheaper card, for LFS at max details and most games a x1950 pro would be fine (for other games at 1280x1028, medium detail, no AA, AF), but considering the 3850 costs the same on this site (150 EUR), go for that. If you want a little better performance choose the 3870 (200EUR).

Otherwise it looks fine, though I have been told to stay away from WD hard disks, went for a hitachi instead, but it's up to you.

edit: ah and the PSU. I have a seasonic S12-II 430W. One of the most silent 12 cm fan PSU there is and it will handle your system without issues. (http://www.alternate.nl/html/p ... Details.html?artno=TN4E50)

Quote from Jonesy_ :...but you can go around it by just holding the shift button pressed untill the gear changes.

yes, that workaround does it, but then again comes the question, what difference does it make how long you hold the shift button? At these misshifts the revs are already cut, holding the shift button for longer, won't cut it anymore I guess.

thanks for the other comments as well, guys, ajp's comment is completely reasonable, and that is what I was thinking too. But I feel that there is some inconsistency on how this is modelled because the "holding the shift button" trick is working.

Or are there such quick things at work, which cannot be noticed by us?

Chris, come on, I wrote specifically that I am referring to ignition cut gearboxes, which have the unique feature that you can stay on full throttle while shifting.

Aero,
yes, I noticed as well that it happens mainly on uphill sections, but then again, I had it on flat road as well.

If I short-shift on an uphill bit, it accepts the gears every time without problems. So the only possible thing I see is the torque stuff you mentioned, but more feedback on this would be welcome.

Sorry, didn't quite know where to put this one. I have some misshifts when changing up through the gears with the FOX. What is this related to? Am I using the wrong gearing, they are too far apart and they cannot click in, or what's the issue?

I have attached a short replay, bl1 hotlapping. Going up the hill to the start finish straight look for the revs when I'm in 4th about to change to 5th. Throttle at 100%, but revs still drop for a (milli)second. It is driving me crazy. It cannot be my controller, as clearly LFS gets the input of the gear change (otherwise the revs wouldn't drop), did anyone experience similar stuff in cars with ignition cut type gearboxes?

Thanks for any replies, and feel free to move this thread to the appropriate location if you find one.

Quote from timnightingale :Funny, I never had this issue at all. Then as soon as I patched to version Y, it started happening.

I'll update the thread if I find a fix.

have you tried what I suggested?

I am having similar issues, though I think it is driver related, nothing to do with LFS. I had it before patch Y as well and have the same issue with other games.

What works for me is, ALT+TAB and then setting the catalyst AI to disabled from standard and vice versa if AA+AF gets lost again. Though on a new reboot, selecting optimal quality (that is 4xAA, 16xAF) from the standard settings menu works always, after shift+f4, alt+tab or exiting lfs, it is lost, but can be "recalled" with the above mentioned.

In XP I have to do the above, in vista 64bit it works without any problems though.

Quote from Gentlefoot :I've also noticed a similar affect relating to tyre temps on some low powered cars. For example, in the FOX I am finding that on cold tyres I have a top speed 1 - 1.5 mph higher compared with when the tyres are warmed up. I can only assume this is caused by the increased mechanical grip the warm tyres give you.

Shouldn't higher tyre pressures (as of with hot tyres=higher pressures than cold tyres) result in less friction thus higher top speed? Do they grip that much that they slow the car down instead?

have you installed patch Y into a separate folder?
you probably just did not specify the correct LFS.exe for the firewall.

Quote from Gougoodthing :Agreed.

Definitely love to see, at a minimum, a different section for qf/short race and longer races.

you guys are aware that you can enter race, drift, etc into the search field and get a list of setups that were uploaded for the appropriate category?

Until the categories are implemented, this is the best workaround.

Quote from Riders Motion :Is it possible to limit the number of setups per day? Nyze is posting 100s on setups at the moment, and most of them sucks...

he has posted 6 in total, and none in 5 days, I would hardly call that 100s. If they suck, you are free to post better ones!

Them being drift sets most people can hardly judge their quality (I can't for sure, as I don't drift). As long as it remains reasonable and we don't see a guy spamming setups we will not limit the setup upload in any way.

Thank you!
we will see how things go, concern was always there, but this has been a request for a long time, so it was really the only viable option as a next step for setupfield.

We hope to see a lot of new setups, some people will still go for the fastest setups, some have avoided us for the exact reason that there was nothing else but WR setups. Now both will (hopefully) find the right setups.

Dear fellow LFS-ers!

Some of you might have already noticed that setupfield has changed and apart from making it compatible with the new patch (new setup naming format) and adding the new Formula car to the setups list, YOU can now upload your setups. No need to get a WR, if you think your set is decent enough or it is a good drift or drag set, just go to our site click 'my setups' and browse for the set you want to share. Click upload, select the car and the track and there you go.

If you want to describe your set, click 'comment the setup', choose the type and add your words to the set.

No need to register either. So come on everyone, go to http://teaminferno.hu click on my setups and start sharing your sets to show how giving the LFS community really is.

Any feedback or improvement suggestions are welcome.
cheers

very nice broadcast, the pre-show was a good and long needed addition it made the whole stuff complete.

unfortunately it was my worst race ever (except where I failed to qualify Big grin), though I have to add to Tristan's comment that my hairpin incident was not a self induced error. I just flipped the car around to get a more straight line exit, however Alain was there as Sam sidewalled him a little, which was just enough for the LFS collision detection to spin me off.

After the SC I struggled to get past Alain for the rest of the race as there is no way to overtake here an identically powered car, unless it makes a mistake accelerating out of the last turns. Alain did only one mistake there and I was forced to the outside, so he had it covered.

I hope I'll get as much coverage in the last race as I did here, will be a good show Smile
