I have introduced several people to LFS and, without fail, each time I get someone to try the game I have to spend time helping them setup their wheel and pedals to work right. Because LFS supports so many different controllers and control types (keyboard, mouse, joystick, gamepad, wheels, multiple pedals, etc). the controls menu has become cluttered and inaccessible to newbies. We need a setup wizard or a much improved/simplified version of the controls menu that helps people through the task of setting up their wheel and pedals to work correctly.
This doesn't have to be overly complex. Something as simple as having the user turn their wheel from lock to lock, press the gas, press the brake, press the clutch should go a long way. Instead of asking the user to figure out which axis goes where, the game should take care of it. Have the user turn the wheel - you know which axis is used for steering. Have them press the gas - you now know which axis is used for throttle. Much more straight forward from an end users perspective.
If someone has to visit the forum or ask someone for help in setting up their controller, chances are they won't bother and will just give up on the game. To grow the LFS community this issue needs to be addressed.
