Quote from Macfox :So the player would just sit indefinitely as they are. The problem I see with this is, in some situations where a car is damage beyond driving or out of fuel, can be left on the racing line.

Most servers that would implement this are league servers where the admin can remove the car by forcing to spectate after the pace car comes out.

Quote from wheel4hummer :I thought "teh haxors" was enough to make it obvious...

I'm so used to 15 year olds posting in the forums that phrases like that don't phase me anymore.

I don't think that will work as the center monitor and one of the two side monitors are being run off a single card.

Quote from wheel4hummer :Perhaps you should read this: http://www.sarcasmsociety.com/howtobesarcastic/

You apparently don't do a very good job of getting your sarcasm across. At least, not in typed form. Perhaps next time you might want to try a smiley?

Quote from AtomAnt :As far as updating the DNS, not sure all ISP's do this automatically.

Guess I just got screwed out of 72 CND.

All ISPs have to update their DNS information. If they didn't any server that EVER moved would be impossible to connect to. Some ISPs are just faster than others and some servers update sooner than others.

Don't worry, you didn't get screwed. Either edit your hosts file or wait a few days. Everything should go back to normal soon enough.

For what it's worth, I don't think the hosts file on ME is in the directory you're trying to muck with. I think it's just in \windows.

Quote from Davo :Souped up MRT, and no one drives the MRT.

Hardly. The Atom is VERY different from the MRT. Nobody drives the MRT because it's a tiny car with a short wheelbase and apart from the autocross our tracks are all very high speed for that car. The Atom is about twice as long and twice as wide and is designed for public roads and high speeds, meaning it's much more stable.

The atom would be more like the FOX than the MRT, just without downforce and with more power.

Quote from duke_toaster :But surely the batteries would go flat though.

Yes, but there's no change in weight between full batteries and empty. That's what I was getting at. The physics of the car itself are just as simple (more so) as any other car currently in the game.

Not to bag on three monitor setups, but I had that myself for a while. At first I used three 17" monitors, then I moved to three 21" monitors. Neither one can even come close to comparing with a projector. Even though a 16:9 projector doesn't have as wide of a field of view, the immense size of the image is just much more immersive.

Quote from duke_toaster :It would be a helluva lot more coding. And eerily quiet.

It would certainly be quiet, but wouldn't require any more coding than any other car. Two speeds, lots of torque, no fuel to keep track of. That's the differences as far as physics are concerned.

Becky's "LFS Companion" can tell you if the person ahead is a lapped car or if you're racing against them for a place.

While I'd love to see this car (or something similar) in LFS, getting it is a lot more difficult than just saying "yes".

Personally, I'd really like to see the Tesla Roadster in game. Something completely different from every other car.

Excellent replay! The battle for first during the first half of the race and the battle for third during the second half were both great. Very entertaining. I really like the new overlays and the announcer/crowd noise in the background. The broadcasts get more and more professional each time. My only criticisms would be the aliasing of the video and a bit of "bathroom sound" on the commentary. Otherwise, very well done and fun to watch. Keep up the good work, everyone!

Maybe someone who has the whole ISO would want to seed a torrent?

Awesome! That reminds me of one of those V8 Ford Focus swaps. Let's see a lap or two in that bad boy!

Quote from Nikn :It would also be a first for any realistic online sim i believe.

Not for long. Apparently NetKar Pro is coming out with a hillclimb car and, supposedly, a track to go with it. Not to mention the fact that nK allows for user made tracks (sorta). Also, Racer has some hillclimb/togue type tracks and it has multiplayer, even if it is less than stellar.

My bad. The last time Pasci made an ISO like this it was CD. Seems to me that if I'm gonna bother blowing a DVD, I'd wanna cram it completely full of stuff. You could probably fit every single high-res texture made on there, plus a good three dozen movies, and all the external tools and InSim apps.

Excellent news! I made copies of the last version for a few friends and will probably do the same this time. I really like the idea of a ready-to-go ISO, but was actually thinking about doing my own so that I could include particular textures, movies, etc. I'll definitely check out this one and see what it has in store.

edit: Looks like the ISO is only downloadable as three parts. It also looks like those three parts are over 1GB combined. I'm not sure how that's supposed to fit on a single CD-ROM.

I voted 'no'. I have no problems with the fantasy cars in LFS. But I would like to see more cars. A RWD V8 coupe would be great, but if it doesn't look like a Mustang or a Camaro I don't mind. An AWD rally car would be fun, but it doesn't need to look like a Peugeot to be good.

The type of car, the power, the drive layout, etc. Those are the things that are important - not the badge on the hood or the shape of the headlights.
Suggestion: Make mods compatible with JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler

Generic Mod Enabler is a program which allows you to easily install or uninstall multiple game modifications while preserving your original install. After a mod is installed it lets you easily uninstall that mod without disturbing the original install. Making mods support JSGME is very easy, you simply use full paths in the zip file. The tool does the rest. This tool is already pretty standard for use in many other highly modded games like Silent Hunter III and European Air War and I think it would work great for LFS too. It's freeware and I've used it with Silent Hunter III for quite some time with good results.

More details about JSGME can be found here: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html

Quote from (SaM) :I for one wish every S2 server that has an S1 compatible car/track combo was set to S1 mode. As, indeed, every S2 AND S1 player can see the host and join. This would be beneficial for the lack of S1 servers and gives S1 players a chance to meet S2 players.

If it worked this way it would be nice, but as soon as the track or cars allowed changed to S2 content the S1 guys would suddenly get disconnected. I think it's better in the end to just leave it as-is and push the few S1 guys to get S2..

I would really love to do some rally racing, but not on the half dirt, half tarmac tracks we have now. There have been a lot of requests in the suggestions forum for a more WRC-like car and a very long, very curvy rally stage, dirt road type of track. Even if we never get the car, we really need the track to do stuff like this. If the autocross layouts worked on it we could even make custom start and finish lines so that no two races would be exactly the same. Just imagine a 12 mile course that goes up a mountain and down the back side where you can place the start and finish lines anywhere you like and run in either direction. The possibilities would be endless!

A similar paved version would be nice too. You could do downhill togue, hillclimb events, drifting, one on one battles, etc.
