a bit unplanned rally for me - decided to go to hungary and visit Mikulas Rally. Unfortunately my camera didnt work for more than 30 minutes, so i missed most of the front runners on the first stage - now that is annoying! Just standing there with your broken camera and watching the action :/ guess its high time to look for something new

so this was probably my last rally event for me this year - although it wasnt proper rally, it was a meeting of rally and offroad drivers who competed in various disciplines.
heavy snowfall in the morning made the conditions very difficult, poor camera

OdysseyByCar - afaik there was only demo released, but we used to play it splitscreen with mate and had HOURS of fun. Of course it has crap graphics, sounds and all, but the physics are not THAT bad, actually nearly feels like driving a car

SODA Offroad racing - for the time it had great physics.

Quote from MR_B :This EF 200mm f/2.8 USM II lens you're all on about, looks very nice, but it would give me no versatility whatsoever. I rapidly change from 70-200 a lot when out shooting. And it's inconvenient for me to carry tons of lenses when I have a small backpack for motorbiking. So other than my Sigma 70-300/4.0-5.6 APO DG Macro lens, there's not really any options unless I spend thousands of pounds. :-\

you just have to walk more if you are too close/too far from the object

Quote from mcintyrej :Ah that would explain it, I wish I had a brother with a dedi box!

My bandwidth limit was 2000mb I think and yesterday it went right over to about 3800 I think so my hosting has been cut off until 1st November. I didn't realise that putting all the pictures on there (about 900kb each) would use up so much bandwidth, I guess i'll have to upgrade if I want to host pictures.

just checked on my traffic, for don.vn.cz (where i have all the shit + vids) it is in average about 60 GB, record being 106 GB. for rallyphotos.cz where i have ONLY rally photos, it is about 12 GB (though in august it was 47 GB)...

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm brewing a big cup of fail strait' from the morning. I thought you were using this.

the prime 200/2.8 is one of the cheapest "L" lens you can get. if i could afford the 70-200/2.8 is, i would surely get it. this way i chose the best compromise.

Quote from mcintyrej :
Don how do you afford for your hosting, surely it must cost a lot? You must get a lot of bandwidth, unless you've chosen a really good plan.

i aint paying nothing as it is hosted on my brothers server

Interesting discussion here, so lemme add my 2 cents:

Until recently ive been using (and still use it sometimes) a cheap Sigma 70-300 f4/5.6 lens, which is definately a slow lens - plus it is almost useless below f8, because you get really soft focus. Usually it wasn`t a problem to use f8, but should there be some overcast weather or if you were in a forrest, you`d be screwed - you`d have to go to ISO 800 or higher (which produces A LOT of noise).

3 months ago (just after 2008 Rally Finland, so all tele photos until 2008 Barum rally are taken with the sigma) I bought a prime Canon 200/2.8, which works much better in not so ideal conditions. Maybe you wouldnt use f2.8 on a circuit, but on a rally, where many stages are in the forrests, it definately has a use. I can give you a reallife example:

http://rallyphotos.cz/photos/barum2008/44.jpg
this photo was taken with the prime lens @ f2.8 and ISO 400 - resulting in an exposure time of 1/500, which should secure an relatively sharp pic. If i wanted to take that photo with my old sigma, it wouldnt be possible - first of all, i`d have to go to f8 (as i said, anything below that gives really soft focus) and then i`d have to use perhaps even ISO 1600 (useless).

But don`t get me wrong - the Sigma is still quite a good lens and I still use it quite often. The prime Canon just makes it a lot easier for me in bad conditions.

And also, i LOVE DOF, so 2.8 gives really nice effect

About noise reduction - i very rarely use it, and if i do, i use the noise reduction built-in photoshop, so nothing special there.

Quote from Billeh :LOL yes it is a DSLR but its not mine its my Friends camera the "friend" who wants me to take pictures at his wedding!!!.

shooting wedding for friends is very tricky - i wouldnt dare to do it if i knew there would be no other "main" photographer - as im not a professional, they really shouldnt rely on my photos - and they should pay someone whose job it is - and in case some of my photos turn out to be good, they can only be happy - if my photos turn out to be crap, no worries, they still have the ones from the pro.

here are some articles about shooting weddings:

hdr was used on 2 of those panoramas, otherwise just photoshop...gotta revise that part of my site, im embarassed about some of those pictures....and i believe most of them (if not all) are taken with the 18-55 kitlens (and some of them might even be taken with old canon compact camera A70)
