don´t waste time using logic to prove anything to atlantian. it hurts to see how some of you put so much effort in talking to him in a comprehensible/reasonable manner. it´s hard to accept (as he is human and has a brain just like us) that he can not think! but this is what he has proven to all of us who can.
he can´t, he probably never could, he surely never will.
there are more like him - very rare, but i´ve met at least one of this kind before.
and i´m sure that you can not learn logic thinking. feel free to post ONE example that shows i´m wrong (not you, atlantian - anyone else but you)
everything else i wanna say would be against the forum rules and
make no difference anyway, for reasons i just told you, so ...
agree with drifting about half texture size. also a lower options->graphics->user LOD setting might help. there´s just one thing about that slider that might give you a disatvantage on track: the lower you set user LOD, the closer other cars need to be to appear in your mirror.
to reduce FPS drop at the start, go to options->misc and turn "dynamic LOD reduction" up to the max: 1.00
this will make other cars at the start look like cubes, but at least it chould be playable again.
yeah, you just left our server after you asked if we want you to leave, so i had no time to explain further... then i see this thread of yours, so just a word from me:
a high and/or unstable ping makes cars look like jumping left right all over the place, the faster you drive/more grip you have, the more dramatic this effects the actual cars position. on the oval, where you drive pretty close to other cars at high speed, this is just lethal, so we´re kinda constantly looking for ppl with high pings.
to get a descent ping, just make sure that your line is solely used by lfs... noone knows better then you what other things use your connection. maybe your girlfriend playing WoW on her laptop in the next room, or you´re in some bigger network like one of those houses for students, where the whole building is on a 100mbit connection and every second pc there is downloading sth from rapidshare ... then you can´t really do anything against it.
and for that blocking rule, well, that´s simply a rule we have on our server. like other servers have a rule like "don´t talk to the admins or you get banned". just make sure you read the welcome screen and maybe the !help, $help, %help or whatever messages once you´re on a server, and you´ll enjoy your stay.
k, this was more then one word, but i hope it helps a little
and yeah, just use one unlock for the patch ... you get a new unlock once a week, up to a maximum of 2 if i´m right
oh and there are a few more changes in the new patch, like you have to watch the clutch temperature, so no more flatshifting in some cars ... just make sure you read about the changes
burning virtual fuel instead of real one is kinda environmental-friendly anyway. so i´d say the guy with the most time spent in LFS (instead of a real car) should get this award ... guess who he probably is
or the award goes to the devs ... tbh i drive (even more) like a grandma and therefore less fuel-consuming in real life since i play LFS. no need to get an adrenaline rush while you could actually cause a REAL accident.
sry, but am i the only one who doesn´t get his point? if you have a stable set, there´s no way to pass? that´s why you need like a set that is unstable enough to be fast? what?
ok, i assume you didn´t do extensive driving on the oval, so:
i did some quick test runs, with my "stable-but-not-fast(-enough-to-pass)" set and plaztik latest set in the fzr. and i was not one hundreth of a second faster with plaztiks set. if plaztik insists in being faster with his latest set, then ok, lets say it´s like that:
with my older set, he can get below 38.40 in 30% of his laps,
with his latest set he can get below 38.40 in 80% of his laps.
So let´s say his latest set is half a hundreth of a second faster (0,005s).
driving 360kph, you drive 100m in 1second, or 0.5m in 0.005s.
you´ll never reach 360kph in an fzr, so in 0.005s you drive more like 0.4m. back to comparing the 2 sets, that would mean that you may loose 0.1m (10 centimetres) per turn (including the little bend on start-finish).
Now i wanna see you say "DAMN, i lost that guy´s draft in that turn because he´s a tenth of a metre too far away from me. i NEED his setup" just look at your hand, like the distance between your thumb and your ... 5th finger (germans call it little finger, no clue about english). and then go online, join the oval, watch a car in front of you and estimate how many times there can be a tenth of a metre between you and the other car until you loose his draft...
i use the stable set because i do NOT crash with it. and if i drive the wrong line, then ... i dunno, it hurst my brain how you can say it´s the setups fault if you drive a wrong line. it really hurts!
I´m definitely not an expert in those things, but i´d say it IS your connection. have you had a look at the pings received in the servers list ingame? i´d guess those are higher then before the problem. also, don´t just try to connect to a server once, but at least 2 or 3 times, so your PC is definitely ready for the chosen server´s specifications.
maybe you can ping or better tracert well known internet adresses like ... yahoo, or the lfs master server. if it comes up with a high ping already before leaving your provider´s network, then i´d call the provider´s hotline immediately.
if you don´t like using scripts, i´d simply consider moving closer to your keyboard.
back in demo days, when i used mouse, i always had my left hand on the keys to shift up & down, so no big deal to reach the F-keys. kinda like the same position that i used to play first-person shooters
i´ll still post my answer, took me a long second, shouldn´t be for nothing I use the Firefox browser. if you use a different one, ... well, good luck!
P.S. proceed step by step, starting top left! If you can´t see the details on a picture, it has probably been resized by your browser. clicking on the picture shows it in original size ... if u use firefox
racer hero, after like 2457258924576thousand laps on the oval you should have realised that there is nothing like a push-pull effect on the oval. the car in front does NOT gain speed if there´s a car behind him. the only exception is if the car behind really pushes the car in front, bumps it, so really has contact with it (let´s call it bumpdrafting). i hope i made that clear
without any help you can´t get into the 37s in an fzr. those are the times you can compare with the WR, which is something like 38.4x atm afaik.
btw i´m driving on a set that enables me to to 38.59 if i try really hard, normally it´s like 38.62-38.7 - and i don´t care, cause it´s stable, i feel fine with it in almost every situation, and i know that with a drafting partner i can get into the 37s and be competitive. if you are SLOWER driving with cars around you then on your own, you or the others are "doing something wrong".
it takes time to get used to drafting that way, noone learns that within a few laps, many drivers i see or draft with have done several thousand laps on the oval (we love it ), and when there´s none of them around, i´m happy to try & show someone i´ve not seen before the way we draft. so maybe, beefy, we meet in the future. then all you have to do is not loose my draft after i passed you .... again and again
well, if you block IRL on an oval, you still get additional speed because of the push-pull effect. in LFS, we don´t have such an effect, so to get additional speed, you either have to be behind a car or be part of a bump-train
still, sometimes you see that the car behind isn´t really making up speed behind you cause he´s too close for example, and still goes to pass you in the next turn. in that situation it might be better to tell him not to pass by blocking him and hoping he´d make up some gap between you and him, so that he can make up more additional speed behind you on the next straight before passing. but that can hardly be done with a driver you don´t know well... and this kind of block isn´t done in a way that the following car has to brake to avoid a crash
dadge, i said BASICALLY, and besides that, i´d call this one a racing incident anyway. being the slower car, you´re supposed to give enough room on the inside to let the faster car pass. but "enough" depends on the drivers possibility to drive a smooth line. so you actually have to know how the other car drives/how good he can hold a good line. on the other hand, sometimes you see the outside car comming down, obviously on a collision course, probably not aware of you being on the inside.... when you´re driving with guys you don´t know, it´s not that much about decent lap times, but about surviving - just like on a public circuit race server btw
as well as on other servers basically the guy behind is to blame when 2 cars crash, on our server it´s the guy on the outside. We are having the simple rule on our server that says: "don´t block the inside", and we´re experiencing amazing draft-actions this way, always looking for higher speeds/lower lap times. besides that, I heared some complains about those Bara-guys´ attitude lately. you was just unlucky that at the moment the accident happened, they could almost complete a vote on their own.
next time you get banned somewhere, check the website of the team that runs the server. no need to post it on lfsforum.
