OK, then what happens when your connection with the server is restored and there's another car just where you appear again?

Yeah, both cars out of the race, that's what happens. So instead of one person who does not finish, there are two (or possibly more) of them.

I know how frustrating it is to be disconnected during a league race (it happened to me in half the races of the last OWRL DivA season). But I prefer to be the only one to suffer from it rather than risking to take out several other racers when the connection is restored.

In fact, I think LFS is quite patient already, before it gives up. It happened to me in a league race with the FOX or the FO8 that I started lagging right after the start, and so all other cars disappeared from my view a bit before the braking point at turn 1. I'm not sure how long it lasted (maybe 5 seconds or so) but I can tell you that it felt like a long time! I braked and entered the corner without seeing the other cars, wondering if they could still see me and considering whether I should run wide and get out of the way.

They all appeared again before I could make a decision, and thankfully it was just like nothing had happened. But in this case (turn 1 of the first lap) I'd say that LFS was already too forgiving with my bad connection.

That's brilliant, GF! My only other suggestion would be to replace the (misleading) picture of the FO8 at the top of the page with a FOX.

How do you get that view 3D in AFS, BTW?

You could try Virtual PC. It wouldn't allow you to play LFS (unless you enjoy one frame per second ) but the skins viewer would probably work well enough.

Quote from matze54564 :But this cheatlike player-name display cant be realized IRL. IRL can you see more details, thats true, this is why the playernames over car how it be at time barely acceptable.

Sorry but I disagree. If you have a pit crew and pit radio, IRL, they let you know who's ahead and who's behind you. Since we don't have a pit crew, the ability to display names is a good alternative.

Besides, IRL they don't have to identify wreckers or newbies. I don't display names during league races, but I often use them on open servers, particularly during quali sessions as the positions list doesn't tell who's around you. If I've been crashed a couple of times by a newbie who spun as I overkook him, for example, I want to be able to recognize him the next time I catch him, so I can be extra careful.

Quote from Gentlefoot :OK lads, as promised I have fixed the problem that Firefox users were having viewing the video on my Track Guides pages.

I've now embedded flash which looks much nicer and I installed Firefox and all looks fine to me.

Yeah, it's much better. It even works perfectly on Mac too, now.

Two notes about the skins conversion (sorry if they've already been reported):

1. I know this should happen only once, but still it'd be nice to see some progress indication (like "Converting skin 1 out of 350 (estimated time remaining: about 3 minutes"). At the moment, if anything goes wrong and the conversion hangs, you just don't know about it. And I noticed that LFS won't let you switch from full screen to windowed mode during this conversion. So a progress indication would be useful if a problem happens.

2. When first playing a mpr saved from W17, I got a prompt about downloading the missing skins. I clicked on Yes and the car skins were downloaded. Fine. But helmet skins weren't, and everybody (including me, strangely) had plain white helmets. I tried a few replays with the same result. Then I exited and relaunched LFS, opened a replay and got the prompt again. This time I clicked on Always. I don't know if this is related, but then the helmet skins were displayed as expected.

Keep up the great work, Scawen!

Club is its name, Storm. It's FE1, the shortest tarmac layout (1 mi).

I would find more useful (at least in single seaters) to be able to point-by (raise the right or left arm and point to the side where you're going to leave room for the guy behind to pass you), or raise your arm when you've stalled (when stalling gets implemented). But I'm not holding my breath.

I checked both single class and dual class, as I woud be interested in both. Given a choice between those two, though, I think I'd chose dual.

Good points raised by Storm. I agree with him so I voted for "over 1 hour races". Not sure what you mean exactly with "league system", but I checked that too, assuming it meant championships with precise rules.

Where do I sign up?

Quote from GrandlHuber :1. Fill out manually a value for the step for a single-lap-refuel in the setup (for example 1.24% per Lap)

Not sure to understand what you mean, here. What I'd like is the ability to set the quantity of fuel in terms of number of laps rather than in percentage of the tank, in the F12 screen. IRL it's the pit crew's job to crunch the numbers, not the driver's.

I agree with your other suggestions. Good ideas.

Talking about pit stops, I'd also like to see in the positions list a new column showing the number of pit stops already done by each driver. It would really help during league races with a mandatory pit stop.

Quote from atledreier :Would it be possible to mark the straights with tiny triangles or something at the 300, 200 and 100 marks? That way it would be easier to relate the trackmap to the actual track, and to see how much you need to adjust your braking points.

I find that LRA and Analyze For Speed are very complementary. The former shows great graphs and loads of data, and the latter shows much more of the track (kerbs, lines, etc) but makes the data very hard to analyze. So I use them both together. LRA's line display is very handy to compare lines and relate them to the graphs, but when I want to see details like braking or turn-in points, I switch to AFS.

Thanks for the new version, wsinda!

I've voted for separate too. And I also think a MRT -> FOX -> FO8 -> BF1 progression would be great. Looking forward to it!

There's already a way, I think: admins cannot be kicked, or banned. So these buttons aren't available for them in the connections list.

Update: FWIW it doesn't seem to work in forumdisplay pages.

Quote from Gentlefoot :Nice tip Flip. Although personally I like to learn the layout. Seems like the best way to get fast lol

Nah, it's much more fun to discover the layout in each lap!

Anyway, this tip works on all the tracks and all the configurations (even IRL, AFAIK), so it's always handy to learn the layout or when the track just changed on the server and you're not sure which configuration you're on.

To those who are confused by SO's layout, there's an easy way to avoid surprises: the distance signs before corners (200, 150, 100, 50) are always on the side opposite to the next turn. Signs on the left -> turn to the right. And vice-versa.

Quote from wsinda :The legend would not be the right place to show this amount of data, because then it would be too wide for a "sidebar" pane.

Not if each is on one line:
  • wsinda
    • speed: 120 mph
    • throttle: 100%
    • brakes: 0%
  • flip
    • speed: 118 mph
    • throttle: 100%
    • brakes: 0%
Quote :But I can envision a "stats" window containing a table of numerical data, one row for each loaded lap. The columns in the table would be user-selectable, chosen from the same list as the graphs. You would also have an option to display either the value at the crosshair position, or the average, minimum or maximum value over the selected part of the track.

Well, since I use LRA in full screen (with the driving line display on the left, graphs in the middle, and legend and track map on the right) a new window doesn't seem the best option to me. OTOH, the right column with only the legends and track map has lots of empty space.

Quote :Whoa, this is getting complicated!

Yeah, I know. Sorry, just brainstorming.

Quote :How would this help you in analysing your laps? For myself, the time difference graph tells me all I need to know: where in the lap I lost time, and where I gained some. What would a detailed list of sector times add to this?

Well, first having LFS's splits would be useful as a reference when you get back on track. And I would find useful to be able to see easily how long each driver spends in each corner, for example.

Quote :OK, noted. It'll get a high priority.

Thank you!

Quote :F1PerfView can do this. It's called overlays. You can add other data to the graph (provided that it's expressed in the same units).

I can't say I like it, though. I find it difficult to distinguish which line is for which type of data. The display gets messy very quickly.

OK. I think some graphs can be mixed and stay readable (for example speed and brakes) but I realize that it would introduce difficulties with your UI.

Quote :It's not supported by the library I use (wxWidgets). Anti-aliasing is rare for Windows desktop apps. Do you have any readability problems with LRA, perhaps?

No, it's just that everything is antialiased in Mac OS and when you're used to it, everything else looks kinda ugly.

Quote :Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for listening.

This isn't really a bug report (although it bugs me), but it didn't feel right to post this in the Improvement suggestions area.

It would be really handy to have the forum's navigation links at the bottom of thread screens too.

Quote from evilgeek :skin coloured suit, or no suit. does it make a difference? either way, i thought it was lame.

If my assumption that only car skins and helmets can be uploaded is correct (is it?), the only way you'd be able to see such suits would be to have them in your skins folder. In this case, the easy fix is to simply trash them (or avoid downloading them from the forum in the first place). Right?

Not sure what you mean, here. IMO, the solution would be for the skins_x folder (or its contents) to be encoded by LFS, to prevent people from seeing and re-using downloaded skins.
