Quote from evilgeek :i raced a (presumed to be) chick in an FZR one time. her car skin had fancy scripting of her name on it (can't remember off the top of my head, but it was something suggesting she might be good looking), and her driver was totally naked.

Hmm, are you sure you didn't dream it? I thought it was only possible to upload skins and helmets; not suits or gloves. I would have uploaded my team's suit, if I found a way. Do I miss something?

Quote from Gentlefoot :Maybe I am succumbing to stereotypes

Yes, I'm afraid you are, mate.

Quote from jtr99 :big manly hairy men with muscles the size of anvils

Stereotypes again. I'm sure there are lots of big manly hairy men with muscles that are gay.

I really don't understand why gay people are seen any different just because of their sexual preferences. Would it occur to you to pick on someone who prefers Japanese food, or Italian cars, or Chinese girls?

This is just the same as racism. Caused by fear and ignorance.

Definitely +1.

Wouldn't it be nice to have also an option to set the angle to less than 90°? I wonder if it'd help keeping your direction when looking sideways.

Well, the cost in resources might affect the FPS a lot. Instead of having one rear view displayed on 2, 3 or 4 mirrors, as it is at the moment, each mirror would have to have its own view generated. It would drag lots of computers to a crawl.
Features ideas

Hi wsinda, here are some ideas for future versions.

- It would be great to have an editable list of values to display in the legends instead of just showing the value of the selected graph. There would be a menu where you'd select which parameters to show independently from graphs (for example you could select speed, throttle, brakes and steer even though you'd just display the speed and throttle graphs), and you'd see in the legends the value of each of these parameters at the point where the vertical cross-hair is.

- It would be very handy to be able to define and save segments of a track. You'd click and drag in one graph to select a segment of the track, for example, then select Save Segment in a menu and be prompted to give the segment a name. Segment separators would be shown in the track map, driving line display, and graphs (probably as bars) and clicking on one of these segment separators in a map would select the segment that starts at that point (and scroll the graphs accordingly). Of course, the time spent by each driver in that segment would also be displayed in the legends. And the icing on the cake would be to have several possible sets of segments for a same track. So for example you could define a set of segments identical to LFS' splits (or have LRA defining it automatically for you by default, maybe?) and another set with one segment for each turn, and then switch easily between them. These saved segment sets would be available each time you analyze replays for the same track.

- I'd really like the driving line display to scroll automatically (if necessary) to show the point corresponding to the vertical cross-hair on the graphs. I know you said you'll look into it, but I just wanted to emphasize how important it is IMHO.

- It might also be handy to be able to combine graphs. So for example instead of having a graph showing the speed and a graph showing the brakes, you could have one graph showing both the speed and brakes. Obviously some combinations would generate an unreadable mess, but some would work fine and that would allow to display more graphs at once.

- Any way to apply antialiasing to the graphs and texts?

Thanks again for this great tool!

FWIW, skstibi, I found that for some reason the FPS is better during fast forward if you use the cockpit or wheels view rather than any external view.

I've used LRA a couple of times, now, and I love it. Great job, wsinda!

There's only one thing I find a bit confusing: new graphs are added at the top. Maybe it's just me, but I'd expect them to be added at the bottom.

Anyway, thanks a lot for that great tool!

Yes, I'm suggesting a kind of workaround that would make our life a bit easier until the new incompatible replay system is implemented (which may still be six months or one year ahead, for what we know). As I imagined it, it would just be based on what already exists, except perhaps for the lap detection, so I hoped that maybe it could be added relatively easily.

It would also be very handy to have a modifier key to change the behavior of Tab and Shift-Tab. Something like Alt-Tab and Alt-Shift-Tab, that would move from car to car depending on their position on the track instead of their position in the race.

Wow, I can't believe it took me one month to find this, wsinda! And now I can't wait to try it. It looks and sounds awesome!
Assisted Fast Forward In Replays

I know there are countless requests about features to add to the replay mechanism, but here's one that I believe should be easy to implement and would help a lot everyone who makes videos, and league officials who have to watch replays again and again to rule on crashes and other issues. The idea would be to have the ability to fast forward automatically to the start of a given lap.

Here's how I imagine it could be done: let's say you want to watch something in lap 45. Instead of pressing F3 several times and watch the fast forward until it reaches lap 45, you would invoke the text input box and type something like "/goto 45". The screen would then freeze or show some background, while LFS would fast forward to lap 45 at maximum speed (which could be much faster without the need to display the replay at the same time). Then, when LFS detects that the selected driver enters lap 45, it would go back to normal replay.

That wouldn't be as handy as a rewind function, of course, but it would still be much handier than what we have to do at the moment and I'm pretty sure that it could be made compatible with existing replays.

It's not clear if you also want info on configurations where it does not happen, Scawen. Do you?

Well, obviously he found a way to pay in the meantime. No idea which one, though.

For the records, the error Thomas got was caused by selecting a paiement method that required a UK bank account while he had a French one. Hopefully he'll be able to use money order, because he doesn't have an international credit card.

If I understand correctly, his problem is that the form to buy the license is in English, and he doesn't understand it.

Thomas, si je comprends bien, ton problème est que le formulaire d'enregistrement est en Anglais, c'est bien ça ?

Hmm, it may be doable to use two different controllers, one for each instance of LFS, but there's still only one keyboard. If one player presses shift-s, for example, both cars will pit (and so on).

Dunno. It could probably be nice in replays, but I wouldn't want it while driving.

IMO there should be a distinction between camera views and subjective views. In Racer, for example, they have these beautiful... erm what do you call the circular light artifacts caused by reflections on the camera's lens? Anyway, they look very realistic when watching a replay, but you also have them while driving, which is not realistic at all.

So I think DOF would be nice, but on the condition that it was applied only in replays.

I haven't tried the editor yet, but the replay mode is brilliant! The only little problem I see is that it affects the framerate, somehow.

As soon as I press shift+u, the framerate drops by 10 to 50% (it seems to vary depending on the number of visible cars and I've only tried with 20/22 cars races), and as soon as I press esc, it goes back to the limit I've set (60 fps) and stays there.

But it's still a great addition to LFS, thanks a lot for it!

A problem I often find with blue flags is they come too early. I don't know if it depends on the speed of the cars, but sometimes I get a blue flag from a car I can barely see in my mirrors at the other end of a straight. In this case I keep my rhythm until the lapper comes close enough to think about passing me (maybe 10 cars length or so), but sometimes it may take him 2 or 3 laps to get there.

It's not like I'm blocking or even slowing them down, which I'm always very careful to avoid (and I've never got any complaint), but knowing the "three flags/three turns" rule, it just doesn't feel right. Besides, the constant reminder forces me to keep watching the lapper's progression in my mirrors, which doesn't help my own race when it lasts for 3 laps.

So am I the only one to think that LFS's blue flags are sometimes raised too early?

FWIW, it doesn't work on my machine running V2 on XP Pro. It launches, but as soon as I try to change the camera height (whether from the hotkeys or the buttons), it gives me an alert reading:

Run-time error '6':

You have those controls when using the free-view's "heli" camera (press Shift+U then Tab). What I'd like, personally, is the ability to set that camera at least twice higher than its current maximum height.
