Quote from G!NhO :i went to the shop today and they gave me some advice, he said i should take the 4850

i think this will be it, its a little bit more money than the 600-700 euro what i first wanted to spend.

Why XP on a new computer like that? You will have no DX10 at all, and XP is actually a bit more expensive than Vista Home Premium. Don't listen to the Vista bashers, it's quite a good operating system.

Quote from der butz :Oh god why o' why did you buy an 8800 GPU?

Good luck with your PC getting reasonable frames.

What the hell are you on about? The 8800GT is still a great card. Just because it's a 2 generations old doesn't mean it's garbage.

Quote from der butz :Erm... where do you know THAT from? I've just heard it was quite quiet, no heat problems atm... The cooler doesn't LOOk very nice, yet the card produces less heat than the 3870.

EDIT: Facts ,taken from alternate.de:

Asus EN9800GTX/HTDP (250€!!) takes up to 160W
Asus EAH4850/HTDI (160€) only needs 106W and therefore can work without that monster of a cooler! At about the same speed!

Look- even with it underclocked heavily, it still IDLES at 76C, and many reports of it getting to over 85C. Like I said, it's a good card, but the person(s) that decided to put such an ineffective stock cooler on it needs to be slapped.

Quote from der butz :same here, 4850 turned out to be about as fast as the 9800gtx while consuming less power and being a lot cheaper...

Yet making a crapload more heat. The 4850 is good, but the idiot who designed the cooler for looks over cooling power needs to be shot.

Quote from RiGun :Devs need to hurry and release S3, think the amount of money if only 25% of S2 accounts upgraded to S3! that's a lot of money!

Why should they hurry up? Do you want an unfinished S2 and a horribly buggy S3?

There are only 2 brands of graphics cards that are even feasible to buy (ATI and nVidia), and Matrox is shit and so overpriced even Bill Gates would crap himself if he saw the price.

Pre ordering an S3 liscense would not be smart (IE having 12 pounds on your account and draining it for S3 before it's released) because nobody would have any idea when it could be released.

That one seems good on prices.

Try installing official drivers for whatever card you have. Also, use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean up the Omega ones.

For those of you confused about it not working- the 2 different drivers have to have the drivers seat side set to the opposite of the other.

Quote from Riders Motion :I already have an OS so I guess it will be fine. Thanks for the help Headbanger. I will try and align he cash before I buy anything tho.

Which OS? If you don't have a 64-bit one then you should only use 3GB of RAM.

ATI Radeon 4850 (Apparently this thing kicks a 9800GTX's ass, and is only $200!)
DFI BloodIron Mobo
Intel E8400
4 GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 800 RAM
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU
Coolermaster CM 690 Case
Seagate 250GB Hard Drive
LG SATA DVD Writer
Acer 19" 1440x900 Widescreen Monitor

Total- $1163.67 CAD

How bout it?

Oh crap, forgot an OS. You willing to spend a bit over $1200?

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Also, to make it a little cheaper, 4gb of this RAM instead of the OCZ Platinum.

New total- $1273.66

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Well in that case, you should have gone with a 9800 GX2...

Also you can't forget that the current drivers don't even use the PhysX chip on the card.

Quote from evilpimp :I think both tracks are just as dangerous lol. SO Town Rev has that nasty downhill braking place followed by the hairpin and SO Classic has the nasty chicane. So in both cases we will see crashes.

lap 1 and 2 are for Pace car period then lap 3 is the race / crash so you have half a lap to pass people who crash then SC comes out half way through lap 3 and thats how its probably going to be lol.

And again, and again, and again. Just look at Blackwood. 90% of restarts had a spin at T1.

Quote from racer hero :Alright, just to let you know...i will be throwing qualifying because I would rather not be infront of ANYONE into that downhill hairpin.

I'm pretty sure you have to make at least a lap of qualifying to be able to race.

I agree with the free field on restarts rule, but a stop and go penalty should be given to anyone that is purposely slowing down and holding up the rest of the field so they can floor it before the green is displayed.
