Plenty of little death markers between Adelaide & Melbourne too, many with little wreaths and flowers and farewell notes. Hell, they're on every long stretch in the country. And little red ones for non-fatal collisions too. It never ceases to amaze me just how many of our road fatalities occur in broad daylight on straight stretches of road 100km long. I do so many long road trips each year I'm amazed I've not been taken out by some half-asleep idiot/drag-racing hick myself yet.
Championship mode? Nah. IMHO that should be more of a "RL" sim thing, battling "real" drivers from current or past seasons.
I'll admit I wouldn't mind a functional AI. I wouldn't care if they were a bit bargy as long as they drove faster than my mum. That way I could race what & where I wanted instead of just sighing and going "fine, bloody GTRs at bloody Aston again" or "shove your bloody Cruise server, I want to bloody race ffs, what is WRONG with you bloody people"
[insert standard disclaimer about preferring improved physics & sound, better GTR cockpits and more tracks over bloody AI here]
I'm not sure if it was as much down to hp as some people think though. Where was Capirossi all year? Certainly not duking it out with Stoner & Rossi at the pointy end. In Rossi's first season with Yamaha (one of the best seasons I've ever seen), the lack of top speed didn't stop Rossi blasting the muscled-up Hondas & everyone else off the track ...
The Duke's always been quick in a straight line but this year they finally sorted the handling out and made a great package, which Casey was involved in developing. I guess the rest of the field just have some catching up to do now in the hp department. Next year should be very interesting - bring on the control tyres
As for "proper" MotoGP, I don't see what displacement has to do with it. The 800s were quicker this year than anything before them (and they sound brilliant too ). I'm fine with leaving 1000cc to the SBK guys.
I started reading Mr Carr's book and halfway through the first chapter I was bored into a coma. I thought "if just stop NOW can I stop reading this thing? PLEASE?" Worked like a charm, six years off the darts now
All the best to Kev and everyone else getting off the dhurry bus
For the record I tried gum & patches on separate occasions - what I found was that they made it much easier for me to re-start smoking by keeping my nicotine up and not letting me withdraw properly. Obviously it might not be like that for everyone, but everyone I know who has quit cigarettes had a similar experience. Myself and the others who quit permanently all ended up going cold turkey and dealing with the discomfort, after repeated attempts at "cutting down" with nicotine aids.
I wouldn't be surprised if some tobacco giants own significant stock in the companies that produce gum & patches
I'm sure everyone's eager for the next phase, but the devs never said "It will be ready on [insert date here]", so it's not like they're running late or anything
I'm not sure what the attraction is with "in-game" music. Surely it's a hell of a lot easier to listen to your tunes with a player than have to buggerise around converting or pasting playlists or whatever That's not a rant btw, I'd just like to know why it's so important when there are so many other ways to play and listen to music simultaneously in the 21st century.
I know WMP is a cumbersome POS too, but there's really no reason on Earth to use it (and I haven't for years), considering the amount of free players out there that completely kick its arse. Failing that - CDs, people. Physical media's retro though, I understand
From a completely nerdy point of view, that's my favourite. Molecules of water get smashed to bits by hot gas and the hydrogen atoms roasted. Cosmic.
I don't watch drags that much but the machines are so ridiculous I can't help but love 'em
In the real world, racing gives you skills you'll be able to translate to driving on the street.
Drifting gives you carpark showoff skills and a propensity to extensively "modify" (i.e. stick plastic crap to) the exterior of your car before applying any engine/handling improvements
Both disciplines, in the simracing world, give you the ability to type swear words with one hand and drive with the other.
Nice. Best thing you could ever do for your health. I quit 6 years ago - the best part is smelling other smokers and going "goddam, I actually smelled like that and was fine with it"
The cost of it these days really does my head in - when I started smoking at 15 (1991), a 25 pack of Marlboros was about 5 bucks. Small change that you could scrounge from around the house. Now the same pack of 25 costs at least a tenner (CDs, however, have barely risen 2 bucks in 16 years.). I'm really, really glad I quit and quite sympathetic to the people I know that still smoke - they're getting ripped off and reamed by the government's enormous tobacco taxes, which the tobacco pimps are more than happy to pass on to smokers.
Plus it's now illegal to smoke inside a pub here in Melbourne, which I can imagine must suck a lot of arse ...
