Quote :Or would MoE force Shift+S in such cases ?

Since there are no little 3d-Helpers we can control, yes we would atm. If that changed, no we wouldn't.

Why are you all getting all worked up about public races anyways? They usually last 5-10 laps, which is not really racing, tbh, so just race the next race and forget about it. Will do wonders to your blood pressure.

Hmm, good question, will need to clarify it with Frank. But I don't see a real reason to do so until we get debris falling off of the cars.

1. The pace car is driven by a real person and we do not intend to change that;
2. We didn't use oval for it, we used a real track
3. About public release: that's Frank's domain, if he decides to, you might get your hands on it, if not not.

Hehe, well, we cant influence the trackside startlights, unfortunately.

But we already discussed changes to the abort-start-issue which will make it more clear.

Quote :Back in the 90s it was still possible to get a useless car to the front of the grid (Damon Hill, Arrows) At least we may be heading back that way.

2003 Fisichella won a race in a bloody Jordan. It is still possible to win in a backmarker car, if the conditions are right.
Wanted: Race Marshals for the 24h of Aston GP

The big race is coming up in a little more than two weeks time. Since it is such a long distance and time, we are looking for additional race marshals, that help us keep track of the action.

Your job basically would be to be on the server and watch for chats and/or other irregularities and also be available for questions in IRC. It would be great if your were willing to put in some night-time hours, but we appreciate any help we can get.

So if you are willing to help out, drop us a line at

Okay, guys, let's drop the "I can get it for free elsewhere" crap. There is a lot of virtual racing series that charge money in some form for participation, even in LFS. Normally, and that is pretty much a fact, they actually provide very nice quality services.

Let's approach the issue from a side where money does not play a role: can R2P provide the LFS with a new racing series that is worth participating in? Right now, that is not the case and Tim has answered the questions why that is. If they, at one point, do decide to provide us a LFS racing series, we can still think about the question "should I take my racing there?" That, however, is much less a question of money than of quality.

Do they have a good series concept?
What is their organizational standard?
How high is the standard of driving?
What quality drivers drive there?

Only if these questions are answered in a way that you can be satisfied with it, you should ask "do I want to spend money for that?"

Tim: okay, then the replays in ISI sims must handle the results differently than the games themselves. I only noticed that when someone leaves the server before the event is done, they drop out of the ingame results list.

If it is just about exporting the results out of a replay, you do not need to run the replay.

http://www.esl.eu/de/pro-serie ... rerwertung/match/4364802/

This is done by a replay-parsing. There is one flaw in it: drivers that disconnect during a race are not shown in the results. But to my knowledge, that is the same in all ISI-based games.

Quote :but the only real problem (and the sole reason LFS is not currently supported) is the lack of a suitable race result export.

Is it not rather lack of effort? There are enough tools out there that let's you get all the info directly out of the replay as of right now. Additionally, with Insim and Outgage, there is probably more available to anyone actually willing to put in some effort and is not blinded by the supposed easiness of ISI-engine games. The only two sims able to put out just about as much info are NR2003 and GPL and I doubt you could get a live ticker and all that as easily to work even in those.

Quote from BuddhaBing :Also in the interview, Bell divulges that Simbin have been providing financial backing for RaceSimCentral, though he emphasizes that one of the conditions of that backing was that there was to be no bias or special treatment as a result.

That isn't exactly news. RSC's Simbin department has been branded ever since GTR and they didn't do that for free. Whoever thought to the contrary must have missed how such things work in the real world.

We had to change the format for the finals a bit and as consequence tried to find a mix between being nice for the drivers and fun to watch.

Personally, I agree that you need a spectator friendly format if you want to widen the audience.

Single server: yes
Possibility of participation: depends on your participation in LFS GT and wether there will be open spots on the grid.

I don't think double file is the general problem, after all, anyone who has ever player NR2003 should know how it works, even on road tracks.

What we will most probably do is not give the green flag until the leader reaches the S/F. That gives a definite point where drivers can start expecting the flag coming out (still, that does not mean if no flag is given you can pull away). Also it leaves more time to set the grid.

Yes, Bawbag, we just watch the replay. That is something we all as drivers have to live with that our actions are judged by hindsight. Keep it in mind for the next time, as everyone else has to. We are not saying that you did it intentionally, if we had though that, Mercury would have been DQ'ed. We simply, as stated above, think that you could have avoided contact and not doing so is the reason for a penalty.
Hoellsen

The reason Mercury was given a penalty was NOT a jump start, but making contact that was in our eyes avoidable.

And we have said it a couple of times now: the start procedure will be reviewed for the next race.

Quote :in the replay it clearly looks my fault

Well...

For the start we btw always look at an official replay, which would be one taken by one of the admins on the server. Always done so, always will.

About the whole Yellow Flag situation at the start: We've had this procedure for the 10th race now (including the 4h race in April). When the whole field is running at around 80kph AND a car pulling into the pits you most of the time get a yellow. Hell, here in Westhill you even get yellow flags when cars are pulling from the pits after a stop. Did that make you brake on the S/F? So pls don't try to blame that you fked up the start on that usual yellow.

Tweak: We were discussing it and when we don't hand out a penalty after we say that I guess that is because we do not see a reason to do so. Shouldn't be so hard to understand, should it? That doesn't mean that the start procedure will not be reviewed until the 24h, but for this race the teams' behaviour it was no different than any other race before and we haven't given a penalty on that yet, so not this time either.

And if we want to go into posting quotes from the IRC, whatever happened to this:
[12:24:05] <Jonesy_> well must say after the replay it wasn´+t quite mooney described on ts
[12:24:19] <Jonesy_> we be accpeting that penalty then

Quote :I would have been on the inside for T1 making a silly attempt at a pass which would most likely end up with a crash

See, this is the difference of philosophy we seem to have. If you had moved to the inside, you would have to have lifted, and not attempt a pass. A start can include giving way in order to avoid a crash and that can also involve accepting to give up a position.

This philosophy has worked quite well in more than 3 years of ESL racing and one season of MoE, without it leading to more crahses, but way less.

You were the one that was responsible for the contact, hence you caused the crash.

We are aware that the start did not go as it should go. This, however, does not mean that contact was unavoidable which means that the one who was responsible for the contact also is responsible for the crash. We all have been racing for long enough now that we know that a lot can happen at a start, lag included. Everyone is required to keep that in mind and when one thinks he has to take evasive action, they also need to keep the close proximity of other cars in mind.

If you had moved to your right, nothing would have happened. You might have lost a position because you would not have had the perfect line for T1, but this by far is preferable to moving into other cars.

Is it possible to denote pitstops in the chart and also give an average laptime for the time between stops?

Especially with the high speed differences, it should be the first and highest priority of GT1 cars to pass on the straight, not in braking zones and not in corners.

This is a basic principle of endurance racing: you dont put yourself and others at risk. Just compare a squeeze-through pass to a wait-2s-and-pass-on-straight pass. The former you risk a crash and serious damage that at best will cost you 4-5s at the next pit stop, the latter is a totally risk free pass that only costs you 2s in that one turn, no more. It is a no-brain decision, really.

And we will also keep that in consideration when deciding on teams applying for MoE: those who don't understand basic principles of endurance racing simply will not be invited. Keep in mind that ultimately we want to have multiple classes in MoE as well.

If it was sanctioned by the FIA, wouldn't it show up on their page?

It might very well be that they follow FIA safety rules and it may even very well be that they hired Charlie Whiting, but that does not necessarily mean it's sanctioned by the FIA. The officially sanctioned championships are these: http://www.fia.com/sport/Championships/2006.html
