Well, as admins, we could do that anyways, couldn't we? If you read the very first post again of the poll-thread, it was stated right away, that all votes for either restricted GTRs as GT2 or FWD-GTRs would be counted as a vote for multiclass racing. Only if these combined votes had been lower than the single class racing votes, your point would be valid. As it is, it is not. Yes, we were always focussed on multiclass racing, even before we started the very first race of MoE. We have said this before, too. We only didn't implement it before now since we did not have enough room on the server, as we said before as well. So please do not try to put it down as some kind of ill inspired conspiracy that now all of a sudden we have multiclass racing because we tweaked some poll results.
As admins, we wouldn't even have needed the poll, we could have just done it. We wouldn't have, had the majority opposed the thought of multiclass racing. They didn't though. We now simply have to get it sorted out. As it stands right now, we have, iirc 8 entries, which is a good start. They haven't all been checked on their racing pedigree yet, but I am confident we will get this underway as planned.
And if we all cool down a bit, maybe we can actually work on the questions at hand instead of telling each other what everyone did wrong and what not.
We know the balancing for GT2 isn't where we wanted to be at at this time. We are working on it and we are hoping to get it solved rather quickly. Such things, as you correctly noted, can't be done over night and so we can just ask you guys to have a little trust and a little support while at the same time we can only say that we DO note your criticism and try to apply it to our work. But please do also keep in mind that even if you think you are right, we also might have an opinion that might be different. I am pretty positive if we work together instead of point fingers, and that counts for everyone, inlcuding the admin team, we will find a good working solution.
It's also got to do with traditional times for such races. The Sebring 12h are started at 10 in the morning and the 24h Le Mans, Spa and Nürburgring are all started at 4 in the afternoon, I think the Daytona 24 as well. The 1000km of the LMS start, iirc at noon. We modelled the series after ACO racing events, which is why we are also using these times. And being mainly situated in Europe means having these times at the UCT times mentioned.
You will be able to switch drivers between cars. However, the rules aren't final yet, neither are the points. That will be done in the next couple of days.
Here we go, applications are now open for the new season. Please send your applications to: applications _at_ mastersofendurance.eu
Applications are open until Sunday, Sept. 9 22:00 UCT (Midnight CET Summertime). Invitations will be issued in the week after that, first qualifying is Sunday, Sept. 23.
You must include the following:
Teamname
Class
Car
Projected drivers (at least 3, your chances of invitations are slim with a 3man team, though), including:
Real name
LFSworld Nick
League racing experience if the driver hasn't raced in MoE before
If he/she has raced in MoE before, the number of races participated in (this also means MoE LFS GT)
Teams can enter two cars, one in each class. Teams must note, which class they prefer so we know which car to invite if we run out of space for cars. One driver can only race on one car on any given race weekend, the qualifying is included in the weekend. We will be very strict on that! Car paintjobs must be clearly distinguishable, even without the class markings.
Unless it's one car that dominates each round: no. It's not the goal of balancing to have a balance on each track. The goal is, to achieve an overall balance with cars being good depending on the type of track. Meaning a car can be dominant on tight/twisty tracks but then lose out on fast tracks. That would give a good mix to the stuff.
I very much like the first two paragraphs of your post, less the third. The point-by is okay if the grid generally knows each other so they know what folks mean. But let's say the car in front sets a right turn signal, meaning in his opinion "pass me on the right!" However, the car behind sees it as "I move to the right" and wants to pass on the left...that is a very commong situation in grids with drivers having less experience with each other.
The first two paragraphs are pretty spot-on, though. I also do believe that the issue we had now will get less and less the more we have two classes on the grid and the test race only strengthens my believe that we can make it work and that it will be very enjoyable to have two classes on the grid.
I don't think this is much of an issue on the straights. A GT1 driver not realizing the car ahead is damn slow should get his eyes checked. It's more something in corners, GT2 get out of the tight turns slower and this can surprise a GT1 driver. So it should be quite clear that you have a GT2 in front in order to make adjustments. I do believe we can achieve that via bumper stickers.
Such statements don't really help your case if you also consider an entry into the actual MoE-season. What we are looking for are dependable teams and not folks who call off races because of "too much beach and party".
Those teams who want to enter another car: be around for qualifying, we will look at the situation on a short notice then.
Quite simple: The one you mentioned is the preliminary list of entries, meaning all entries we received until that point. The list above is the one with the entries we admitted for the race.
