Quote from AndroidXP :Personally I use the lowest mipmap settings I can (most blurred textures) so that awful "pixel wandering" doesn't happen. Unfortunately the mipmap bias isn't enough to completely stop that so I do two more things:

1) in the nVidia graphics options set the "negative lod bias" to "clamp" and
2) use rivatuner to set the mip bias to 0.3

this looks sooo much more better than the dreaded "ant soup" of twiggly pixels.

thanks a lot for the hints, i will try them asap!

Yes AS5 is a bit to big track for a custom layout. I see this as i was closly done with the track. i have only 512 objects that i can place. But for AS5 i need around 800-1000 objects. So i choose a smaler track at next. I decide for fern bay green. This track is a nice rally/drift track. Best choose is a rally setup. My tracks driving verry different to the normal race tracks. You must damn fast shifting steering and handbreaking to "push" your car through the hard turns. I put alot passages in the track with changing ground (asphalt/grass/sand/dirt) and 180° turns. Its very difficulty to learn to drive this and you need to use your handbreak alot. But its alot fun to take 180° corners with the front of the car close to the pylon in the center of the corner and the rear slipping around and take the swing after the corner to the next corner. Good old rally style like in the TV
And with a bit training you can be damn fast on this tracks. I watching yesterday El_Bitcho driving alot sick lap times on FE2 with an amazing driving style.

i didn't mean it was too big, but rather that with an old geforce 5200 fx i use 1024 and no antialiasing and anisotropic neither, so it is graphically a bit difficult to understand where i must go, unless i learn the track a bit (not you r fault )...by the way i like big tracks!

The StuntRacingServer project is proving that LFS can be even more! i hope this can make the devs decide to improve/extend the layout editor to implement more objects and make them available to all tracks.

an idea just popped in my mind (dreaming ): would be possible for scawen to let putting sand/green over the asphalt? this could make more powerful designing custom layouts...

anyway atm my favourite is blackwood rev rally layout

i played yesterday and it was real fun!!!

i got bored of AS5 because difficult to see/understand where to go on offroad sections (but that's not your fault, it's because of the curls that fool me ) and also the part inside pits because garages are really too narrow (for a noob like me ).

anyway it's a damn great idea, please continue with this project!!!!!

EDIT:
i hope in a future patch it will be possible to add ramps also to other tracks and not only BL

Quote from Vain :When you connect two monitors to your GFX board you have to set them up to react as one screen to make LFS work with both monitors. Because there is now one very wide display-surface you have to adjust the FOV to the new display-surface.

Note that I didn't do that yet. This is just theory.

Vain

thanks for the clarification, anyway it's theory for me also because i don't have a dual head gfx board

let's hope to hear some (good) news from someone that can try that

Quote from Vain :1. MS Flight Simulator 04 is special in this way, because it supports displaying through multiple GFX boards due to the way it was programmed. LFS and about any other hardware accelerated program do not.
2. You can use a dualscreen-setup when you have a dualhead GFX-board. You should be able to adjust the FOV accordingly, spread the screen over two monitors, turn the custom view in LFS 45° to the right and then you should see the front view on the left monitor and the right view on the right monitor.
3. Write an email to Matrox and NVidia and ask them to build a triple-head GFX board with more performance. Perhaps they'll listen.

Vain

thanks for the reply!
about FOV, doesn't make it look wierd (unrealistic) to change the default value?

sorry for such stupid questions but i'm really a noob about this issue...

Quote from Scawen :I'm not sure about that... because the bar would be in the middle which makes it pointless. But i think someone has use a fixed turn angle before, so they got more view angle in one direction.

About multiple screens by using multiple computers connected, i think that is an easier option than supporting multiple video cards in a single computer. But although it's a nice thing to support, it's a bit low priority compared with several other things. I don't know if it will be supported by LFS in future, or if Direct X or video card manufacturers will make it easy to support multiple screens, before we reach that time.

i don't understand, if i buy a dual head graphic card, can i put the left view on the second monitor while having the front view on the primary?

is it possible to use some lfs add-on (lfs-spectator?) to achieve this result? i explain better:
- 3 pc over a LAN
- the main pc connected to an internet server and running lfs-spectator
- the 2 other pc connected to the master pc trough lfs-spectator and viewing me with left and right view respectively

is it possible?

thanks!

EDIT:
sorry, i completely misunderstood what lfs-spectator does, but the question now is: how much effort will require to implement such feature into lfs (ie allowing a client to relay packets to another 2 clients)?

Quote from Cue-Ball :I use dual screens at work, dual screens on my desktop machine, and three screens on my LFS rig (Parhelia). Being able to put everything other than the actual driving view on a secondary screen would be a huge benefit, IMO.

That MaxVista program doesn't support DirectX, so I doubt it'll work well for LFS. If anyone gets this to work, be sure to bump the thread. From their web site:

but they say it works with flight simulator so it should work with direct-x games! ...i'm really ignorant about multimonitors stuff, so can someone tell me if with dual monitor support i can put the left view (or rear view) of lfs?

alternatively, is it possible to use a second pc with some lfs add-on (insim/lfs-spectator?) to have another view?

i have (as anyone i know) a spare pc and a spare monitor at least (i have plenty actually) so if we can find a way to achieve multiview with lfs, i think it would be another huge step towards realism...just imagine to have 3 monitors that give you front left and right view...amazing!

Quote from XCNuse :thats what you can give them names lol
i always name them by the track abbreviation.. always have and always will

is also my habit indeed! but apart from getting annoyed of repeating all required "tags", i always lack characters for real descriptive name...more than this since setups cannot be renamed, is also annoing to copy and delete a setup only to change name from "BL1f_WE1r_001" to "BL1f_001"...

...also if i select a car and a track LFS (with my proposal) could optionally filter out setups of other tracks or group them by track.

yeah! this would be very useful, while very simple and fast to implement...

i would like that it works this way:
whithin setup sections (brakes, suspensions, etc.) it should be added another one called "tracks" (or whatever) where you can check the tracks where this setup is meant to be used (eg. i can check BL1-forward, WE1-reversed, etc.) and the resulting setup can be saved with this name "FOX_BL1f_WE1r_mynameforthissetup.set"

i think this would be the most handy solution for in-game use and also for archiving/exchanging setups outside the game.

this is one of the "fast-to-implement" things that i really hope to see in S2 final

i also agree on more HUD customization also by allowing black background on things like rpm or speed viewer (they mess with 3d objects and are often undistingishable), or moving those indicators where is more handy...

second point: this is a sim, BUT i dont see a reason to limit freedom of customized view! there are a lot of people that use 3rd person view just to make it MORE REALISTIC! just think that incar view is the point of view from eyes of the puppet inside car and you view this from a monitor at least 50cm away from you and that you have only a small portion of the field view that you have in real life, one example for all: select 3rd person view, set view point inside car, centered and close to the windshield -> that makes what you see from your monitor, what you would see if you were sitting into a real car...

yes it's true! many times when i see it's impossible to get an almost clean start (especially with fox) i leave all pass at start or i start from pits, i wait 20 seconds for the crash at first corner to be completed ( ) and i start my race, usually i finish in the first 3 positions...and i'm only an average racer...

what also many experienced racers lack is patience and learn how to prepare a pass and how to be passed...i only play lfs on weekends and everytime is a carnage, but once each 2 months i find a race where for few laps i can fight against a cool-clean racer and we pas each other like IRL without touch as if we were in REAL CARS...well after that the two of us are so happy that we forget all the carnage of all days...that "perfect race" each 2 months is why i keep playing LFS...the real spirit of races...to fight against all the odds and win, or simply find a good fight even for 8th position...that's what online races should always be, but it's so rare...

it's really a shame that some cars and tracks are very rare...

i think one problem is that we have too many ranges of cars, i mean except fo8 and fox wich is reasonable, if it could be chaged or added some cars to have similar performance to lx's and mrt. also if uf1 could have similar performance to gti would be much better.

to me it's very important if could be reduced "classes" of cars making cars into each class almost equal in performance even with much different behaviour and in each class it should be present a fwd, a rwd and an awd. this is the key to more interesting races because it reduces the spread of racers, adds a lot of variety by having much different cars racing together and so avoids that some wonderful cars are forgotten.

about track variety i don't know what could be done but it's a shame that we have so many configurations (let's dont forget reversed configs) and everyone always plays the same...i've seen fern bay black only once since s2 came out!!!

my whishes:
- mountain road circuits ("initial-d" style) like japanese and spanish tracks of colin mc rae series with some broken tarmac (like RL mountain roads)

- free run: a configuration for all tracks to remove all barries -> that is: standard, reverse, free run.

- bikes (that's a dream for now ok...) let's remember that "4 wheels r 2 much" mod, showed us LFS is quite ready for bikes

- a BMW Z4 like car but AWD in the range of fxo/rb4 or lx6 (this would increase lx6 servers by introducing a "noob" car in the same range)

hi! i mostly agree with you: i was also really impressed of this sim...actually is the first game i've ever bought and it's the first racing game that i found so damn realistic to be really called "sim". Also other friends of mine that i made them buy LFS, consider it a real sim...all my friends with a ps2 says it's even much better than GT4 (only at phisics).

let me say that some things you mentioned are scheduled for S3 and with reason -> they require a lot of time to be implemented! but i agree about some other points: advertisement -> yes it's really needed BUT it's very time consuming and it steal time to developing, on this point i think WE must do something, spreading the word as much as possible either IRL and on the net.

i laso think that maybe it would be better if they plan more small releases between S2 and S3, for many reasons: they can smooth the effort of giving new features and tuning them up with users feedback, maybe they can plan another "licensed release" (i mean one that we must pay for) to increase their budget -> they really deserve it!
also some features require little time to be implemented like the day-night transition is very fast, suspension and engine break on crashes, also free-run and an initial-d like track would be good to put into an S2.5 release...wel the latter point is a bit controversed, but i think that while keeping focused on the core spirit of LFS ("serious" online sim racing), they should also open to a wider audience e.g. drifters are sometimes considered bad guys, but until they drift on a drift server, why don't embrace this kind of competition? also drag races (i don't like it) but why don't insert them into lfsworld statistics?

so my suggestion are: more advertisement (also from us), more smaller releases, wider audience.

yes we have a dream that became reality (S2) and as soon we got it we started another dream (S3)

first of all devs THANKS! second take your deserved break and refuel your strength, in the meantime let us dream more

i think like ORION...if scawen can give the mathematically perfect lines, brake points etc. first of all it will be absolutely boring and also everyone will try to emulate AI...the good of lfs is that you can see (like IRL) evryone taking different lines and each one effective, however this thread is beginning to go a bit offtopic: i was giving a suggest believing AI couldn't be improved to catch up with fast lfs users, if this is wrong then the suggestion may be useless.
Honey

IMHO "free run" is basically the same as "BL car park", but just more wide and "rich"...so i don't think it will ruin lfs, instead it will add more fun, when taking some rest from plenty of "serious" races

Quote from Tweaker :Scawen has even said in the past that he can make the AI unbeatable, and I'll bet it doesn't involve any car configuration changes, they would just be smarter.

really? it sounds strange to me...then why did he made them so crappy i must give them faster cars if i want to arrange a not-boring single player race at pro...and i'm only and average racer!

by the way that suggestion may be archived just in case he wants a fast and dirty solution
A way to easily improve AI (fast to implement)
Honey

dirty and simple -> just giving the user the option of giving AI wider tires (choosing the width to tune the advantage)

we know improving AI driving skills is a hell of a problem, "there will be no AI capable to challenge with a real pro racer"...well at least with current CPUs and current neural networks theories...but lets dont get into this...

so if the current implementation of AI is a bit slow, let's give them some advantage! giving them wider tires and/or slightly more power, we may fill their gap about racing skills...i propose it not because i like AI, but because many people is asking for that and mainly because if lfs can claim to be the only one sim with really challenging AI it would be a huge advertisement

please scawen consider this...it's simple, it's optional, it will add a lot for many users, it could be another key point to advertise

Quote from Sketchy :I agree with nugz a bit on this one. The police chase garbage, No thanks, seriously why? My best possible guess is that some people like the culture of NFSU but those of them who acutally can drive realise they want something vaguely simulation, but sorry bud, LFS is not the game.

As for the free roaming city style track, It would be interesting so you could enjoy driving some of these cars in a cruisey sort of fashion. But more to my liking would be some sort of twisty mountain/country roads. Maybe a track that Is a 10-15K long that starts near the bottom of a mountain and makes its way both up and down. I would like this not because Im with the Initial D style downhill drifting camp (Im not!) but because whenever I really enjoy a drive for real Im always looking for the twisty's... the awesome satisfaction that comes from double clutching on downshift as you brake hard for that tight 40km/h bend just ahead... magical. This I could see in LFS.

agreed

i like driving itself, so free roam with downhill and city would be awesome, just to improve driving skills because if don't have a preconfigured track you cannot have studied it before and you see how good you are to quickly learn so to achieve a better understanding of driving/racing in general and not because you have studied the WR hotlap with brake points and lines >_>

also it will allow another kind of racing -> let's define a start point and an arriving point and let's see who gets first choosing any possible path

so: no police, but yes to free roam + downhill

this problem is "well known" and is there since S1, mine is different! ...in my case i can see all others, but they don't see ME, only me...i've done some tests and it seems to be related to bandwidth saturation, let me explain:

- i have a 100Mb lan connected to a properly configured adsl router which bridges a 1280/256 atm internet connection.

- my pc always runs LFS "only" (i mean no other application that connect to internet) except NOD32 antivirus that checks updates every hour

- my pc have a properly configured Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5 allowing lfs to fully connect (both inboud and outbound) to internet, even if only outboud is needed

- i noticed that when this problem occurs another pc in my lan engages some bandwidth for upload (let's say 60% of adsl upload capacity)

so my guess is that if some of my lfs packets are lost this bug arise...my bet is that the server at which i am connected while is capable to keep connection, with huge packet loss may be fooled about car position and may not be able to recover from the lag

ever since i noticed that, i configured my network to ensure my pc have 66% of upload bandwith guarranteed at any time (only when i'm playing with lfs) -> i never had any more this problem!!!

by the way what most of you guys are experiencing is a server problem, but maybe it could be the same problem i had, but located on the server itself...so my guess is that this proble may be related to poor server connectivity...

i hope this could be of any help

here are few ideas of mine about this topic:

- control over moddig could be achived by giving some sort of hash keys from devs to 3d-party track designer, so that devs could allow only quality track mods to be installed on lfs servers and clients...this also may partially solve the problem of track licences, so just to say the maker of nurburgring version for racer could convert it to lfs...then if eric would support him with some suggestion, the result may be good

- i'm not particularly interested into real tracks but rather into more long tracks and more variety -> eric showed us he is an artist and lfs track are really intriguing and enjoyable -> i will be more happy to spend some money for an expansion track pack, if all money go to devs instead into expensive licenses

- many people want (like me) long tracks like nurburgring, but it's sad to see that servers with aston-gp or kyoto-gp or fernbay-black are very few and are almost always empty

Quote from HASTA :Yeah i know, but why not unicode?

i guess the main reason is because unicode characters requires 2 bytes against 1 byte of ascii and maybe even if quite irrilevant, it helps keepping the net-code of multiplayer more optimized...cosidering that sometimes spectators may chat a lot during races, this may be not so irrilevant...i guess...
