I used Chucks deal and it was amazing value compared to anything iracing have offered, but I will not be renewing... I think it was $48 for a year, but tbh, I have used it less than NKPro, which cost £13, which I have only had for a few weeks... And I don't have to pay for content..

I really cannot justify paying a penny more on iracing in it's current state than I have already paid, which was way to much. I would rather set up something with nkpro for the lfs community whilst waiting for the LFS updates than waste more money on iracing.

This is my opinion on the current sim racing situation for me (purely my opinion)

LFS (£24)=struggling on it's knees tbh, we could really do with those physics updates before 2012... Until then, we will play it, but without the enthusiasm it needs for us to be competitive..

NKPro(£13)=with the new updates, the physics seem pretty awesome, plus the fact that you can run any track (almost) makes this a serious option for us, and I would suggest any LFS team looking for something different. Whether we (SR) are able to manage a small league is still open to debate, but it is something that we will consider. The netcode is improved so I hear, but until we run it on a proper server I can't comment..

iRacing(£100's+)=Really hard to run a team using this as our main sim. There is no api to enable us to effectively monitor what is going on, and the fact it costs so much means for a team of our size, with differing financial situations with our members, it means we can only support a handful of racers. Also, with the release of iracing 2.0, I personally have lost faith in iracing altogether.

^^ I would like to qualify this above statement.

iRacing=IMHO, iracing physics are wrong. It only takes a few minutes looking at the comments from all the iracers saying how bad the OTM (original tyre model) was, to realise that they all agree. If you asked this question before the NTM (new tyre model) came along, they would say iracing physics were the best EVER... Now they are saying that the ntm is wrong also, but in a whole new way. I only know how it feels, and to me it feels wrong. Also, iracing costs a freaking fortune...

Live for Speed=LFS feels right. Not perfect in any way, but right. It really needs updating, which we are all waiting for. I can only hope Scawen does a better job than Dave K. Personally I think he will, as LFS seemed to me to have a better model from the beginning, whereas iracing's model was wrong from the start...

NKPRO=Only just started with this, but it feels right. It feels to me like a more advanced LFS, physics wise. It is pretty close to what I would imagine Scawen's tyre model will feel like. Some of the cars feel a bit shit, but some are awesome. It pisses all over iracing IMHO with some of the cars. The fact that it has unlimited tracks (track editor, plus loads of tracks already made by the community) is a massive bonus. The huge downside for NKPro is lack of online racing, plus it really feels like a beta game, with some really bad UI. I am not convinced yet that the sim is developed enough atm to support a community the way lfs does.

rfactor=not for me, like everyone waiting to see what rfactor2 offers.

Why are American cruisers and drifters much harder to understand than east europeans, google translate and aliens?

Try putting the router in wireless g mode, i.e. turn off wireless n. I have to do that with my ipod touch 2g.

I also haven't had any issues with the few laps I did, although joku showed me the path is wrong. I cannot do anything about the path. The only other option is to take is off completely which I'm sure you'll agree, would make the cutting even worse

I already disabled the airo world checks as they were even worse....

1st week report

We are 1 week in now, and 162 drivers have tried to show their speed. Provisional leader is Magnus Bjorndal, with Joe Holmes 2nd and Reno Koots 3rd.

The WR has been smashed on each combo so far and no evidence of button clutch or any other cheating has been observed by anyone.

With this league, you simply join the server and set a time. We run every single car in LFS so it is a great opportunity to increase your skills in the game. Everyone has been sharing their sets, including the WR holders, so if you need a set, just ask, we haven't seen one person yet refuse to share a set.

There is 1 week left for the first round so there is plenty of time to get yourself some competition. Whether it is beating your teammate or someone you thought was better than you, you can get them by simply joining, asking advice, getting sets and practising.

This is the best opportunity for all LFS racers to improve their skills and get advice from the fastest drivers out there. It is also the most popular competition in Live for Speed, with 592 drivers competing last year!

I would advise anyone thinking of joining, please set a time in each and every car, because if you get into it, you will regret those points lost on earlier rounds if you don't

I appreciate this might be a nice sim for RC racers, and I'm sure that they are willing to pay the money, but for us sim racers, it is way too much. The demo costing money, and we can ask for a refund? The British just don't do that kind of thing, don't you know

Personally I would have liked to try it out, but there is no way I am going to pay for a demo (as I wouldn't claim a refund), and I certainly wouldn't pay the prices for the full game. I would like to ask a question. Who set these crazy high prices for the game? They are the highest of any game that I know of "IN THE WORLD", including iRacing.

Had a long conversation with Victor about this issue. ATM it is impossible to stop via LFS or Airio using any automated system. We proved it last year. Auto clutch is just too slow compared to any other method, and LFS doesn't report a change ingame for it. The only way to police it is if the drivers themselves suspect anyone using it, save the replay (or if you weren't there check the server replay) and grass them up :chair:

I will make a thread for this in our forum, so if you want to check anyones times, let us know and we will make sure you can get hold of the server replay.

Quote from Flame CZE :You could use Airio to detect cars around you and contacts, so bumpdrafting/drafting would not be allowed either.

Anyway, looking forward to this again!

I have enabled only airw laps to be stored, will this stop bump drafting? Is that the option you were on about?

LFS Hotlap League 2011

SR are pleased to announce the Live for Speed Hotlap League 2011. The league will start this Saturday (3rd September) and will finish Christmas Eve.

Please see below for more info. Good luck and hope to see you on the server!

You will score based on your final times at the end of the two weeks.
You will score for each car you drive.

Information

Simply enter our server called and set a time with the available cars. No signups needed at all.

Rules!

1. No cheating - No bump drafting or normal drafting is not allowed. We will find out and ban you, so please play fair. We will monitor the server 24/7 via remote and we will save all replays. Any times set that are questionable will be investigated and the driver banned from the league if setting a time that they do not report as being invalid. If you set an invalid lap, either beat the time or report it yourself. All drivers are expected to report any driver they see cheating. We will also be using Airio's PTH cutting check. << Click to see maps of correct path.

2. Respect other drivers - Respect blue flags and take care when exiting pits. If you are on an outlap, get off the track completely if someone on a hotlap is approaching. Anyone caught wrecking will be banned.

Saw that Phil, but what would you want to hear from Scawen?

That he is working on REAL physics and not some BS PR?

We know that already. I personally cannot believe that the iRacing guys have promoted this release for the new NTM as real physics, when blatantly it is not.

I hope (and think) Scawen is working on a real mathematical model that represents how a tyre works. iRacing has developed a spreadsheet from more accurate data for each car that they think represents tyre behaviour better than their last attempt, which they think deserves the tag 2.0. Good luck iRacing but if your basic underlying principles are wrong, go ahead, don't change track, keep going and make your final results more accurate with better data. This for me is not progress, this is stupid, USA style.

What about changing the way you think about the freaking engine?

iRacing and LFS have completely different approaches to the way they see their physics engines working with a car.

LFS uses an engine that works out things using a mathematical model that works for all cars, all adjustments etc.

iRacing uses an engine that has lookup tables for values that they think is right for each car, under each condition.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that one way is just wrong. But the worst thing is, iRacing claimed for the release of iRacing 2.0 that they realised their old way was wrong, but they had learnt and this time they were programming the physics correctly from the bottom up... So why do they have to release the NTM (New Tyre Model) individually for each car?

I rest my case, hope to see your before Christmas Scawen
