Requesting help from the Finnish...

Hey guys,

Since coming to Finland to study, watching F1 has become a bit... well impossible really. However, today I got an old TV from somewhere, and it works.. to some extent. I was just wondering which channels are the most important to get on, so far we've found SubTV, Eurosport, some channel which shows poker explained by a guy in a hat, and MTV.

Which channel is F1 on? and are there any other channels which are any good? My Finnish isn't exactly amazing, so I can't find my way around the Finnish part of the World Wide Web.

I'd appreciate any help, Kiitos ;>

Not since I moved out of my parental home for studies, but I raced in the OWRL, and I would definitely want to return to it, and hopefully many other leagues!

Hmmm, I can't seem to find one anywhere near the €35 mark though, maybe I'm looking at the wrong wheels...

Cheapest 'quality' wheel?

Hey everyone,

Since about a week ago I moved to Finland for my studies, and of course I didn't have room in my luggage to pack my trusty DFP or DF. Originally, I didn't think I'd need a wheel since I was a bit out of LFS at the time of departure, but since my arrival I've been itching for some online LFS action!

The problem is that I although I have the money to either send a wheel over, or buy a good one here, I am only here until mid-December and it is not worth it for me to spend €30-40 to mail my wheel in from home (and back again in December) So... I am looking for a sub-€35 wheel preferably with FFB, which is good enough to race casually with, but shitty enough to (more or less) throw away after 3 months of use.

Are there any such wheels any of you would know about?

PS. Playing with a mouse/keyboard/joypad is not an option - I'd rather not play at all.

PPS. Paying more than €40,- is also not an option, it's very temporary.

Quote from Kimi Raikkonen :The quick lap at the end? I was a bit bored with spending the whole race behind another car and so I tried to see how quick I could have been.

so typical, it's stuff like this which I can truly appreciate in Kimi.

Hmmm, I recently bought the same laptop, but the 'vista aero ready' version (I guess). It has 2gb of ram, an x1300 and a 160gb HDD.

I haven't tested LFS on it yet, but it should run just fine; the laptop also runs Anno 1701 at medium-ish graphics perfectly.

There's probably still a big difference between the x1100 and the x1300 though. I'll have to give LFS a quick test on it and see what happens

Edit: 35fps with 11 AI on-screen in Blackwood (demo mode) and 75-90 fps in hotlapping mode.
The settings were on default, seems very playable on my laptop, but I don't know how much the extra components in my lappy matter, nor do I know how it would perform in a full server =)

Heroes rocks! I followed it from the start, on a weekly basis. It's a shame it'll still take a while before the 2nd season starts =)

... shouldn't disobeying team-orders be handled in a professional and orderly manner outside of qualifying? I can't see how a professional sports team would go like: "LOL YOU DISOBEY NOW WE HOLD YOU UP!!!!11"

Quote from dawesdust_12 :a 360 would collect dust like my PS2 has, because there are no games for both that interest me

If there are no games for the PS2 that interest you, then you are not interested in games at all. I mean... the PS2 by now has pretty much the largest game library of any console. The PS3 has one of the smallest, and still no 'killer app' to support it, and if it's a media center you're interested in, get a proper media center tbh

I guess a tip could be to put your bodyweight where it's needed to maintain maximum grip. I'd also like to see a few nice tips though from the experienced karters in the community

Quote from 11SuLLy11 :hehe quite dangerous them Dutch kart's are a bit dodgy from experiences I have had before
also WTF do karts have safety belts for
more of an hazrd than anything

Well, in an indoor kart-track with walls everywhere it's very possible to get seriously hurt if you hit a wall, so I guess it's still a good thing those safety belts are in
I'm on fire!... no, I mean literally.. on fire.

A local myth has been created!

About an hour ago I went out to race around a bit with my brother in our local indoor kart track. We're more or less regulars there, but it was a while since we last went there. Anyway, we were fortunate to be the only ones on track in our heat, and I got in the kart after my brother, as he is a bit faster than me. (let's not give him too much credit though, he's my brother after all)

Off we went, my brother sped off quite fast, I couldn't really keep up and my kart had a weird vibration going; this didn't seem like an issue though, I've been there many, many times and all the karts feel slightly different.

After roughly 10 laps I was fairly close to the potential of the kart (imo, ofc ;p) and it was slooooooow. I was about 2 seconds off pace of the track record (first time on the new track, but whatever) and normally it's more like 1 second. Anyway, after those ten laps the engine started making a nasty noise when I touched the accelerator, so I pulled over and waved for a track official to come over and appoint a different kart/move the broken one.

He then appointed me to kart 41. I mention the number because I don't think I'll forget it for a while
I hopped in and came out of the pits before my brother; this time he had trouble keeping up, so I was happy with my new kart... until my second lap.

My brother was right up my ass, and suddenly after a chicane I heard an odd noise, and something heavy flew onto my arm. I initially thought my brother hit me very badly and his front wheel slided onto my front, but then I pushed the object to my side with my right elbow, and as my eyes followed it I noticed that it was the goddamn engine, or at least some part of it. I noticed the fuel line had snapped, and fuel (LPG, I think?) sprayed over the kart, and presumably myself. I was still rolling up a bridge when this happened, but obviously I unbuckled my seatbelt and tried to get out asap.

As I got up, it happened; I obviously didn't see it directly, but I could feel the heat behind me, and everything behind me appeared to lit up. I jumped out and started checking if I was on fire; fortunately not, but when I looked behind me, the entire kart was in flames. My brother came running towards me, asking me if I was OK, and then a track official with a fire extinguisher ran past me and started extinguishing the flames. (in the end it took two extinguishers to completely douse the flames) It was only at this point that I realised what had just happened. People were lining up at the 'sky box' and the next wave of drivers came down the stairs and started asking what the hell just happened etc...

Pretty scary, pretty damn exciting! This doesn't exactly happen every day, and I think nothing like this has happened on that particular track. It's a mainstream track with relatively simple karts, so nothing out of the ordinary usually happens. In my time I've had a lot of stuff happen on me; steering columns breaking, wheels breaking off, near-flips and sliding into walls at full speed, but this is a whole different ball game

In the end, the cause for the incident seemed to be that the belts which keep the fuel tank in place snapped on one side, or got burned through by the exhaust. According to my brother, the entire tank (mounted directly behind the driver) flew off to the right, and then the fuel lines just snapped under the force.

Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this story, but I just needed to share this with some people. I guess I'm just happy that it was me in the kart, and not some inexperienced driver, or an older/less able person whom might not have been able to get out as fast as me with a full dose of adrenaline pumping through me.

Enough excitement for a day!
