Quote from thisnameistaken :I just got done tracking the bass part, the fuzz bass part, and the Boss OC-2 bass part for one of the songs going on our next EP.

Also just found out we're doing a live acoustic session on BBC local radio at the end of the month. Quite looking forward to dragging my double bass into a radio studio.

Can we listen somewhere?

Quote from Klutch :well, yes, generally there is darkness in hills with no street lights...

anything else obvious that you wish to fill us in on?

If it's that obvious, why do you post them? What exactly do you think people gain from watching those videos (besides boredom)?

Those standard cars look like a bad excuse. Look at them!

Meh, i'm glad i didn't order one of the signature/limited editions. This game is going to be a major let-down.

Half of the premium cars are cars i have no intention to ever drive. Race cars, Audi TT's, etc.

GT5, 1000+ cars (with about 50 you'll want to drive). That's what they should print on the box.

What the hell... why is the Ferrari F40 a standard car? It had a cockpit in GT5P already...

Ok, so i'm taking my sweet time with this game... and am enjoying it a lot actually. Nevertheless, i'm having more trouble in this one to get a feeling for who am i supposed to "follow" or help in order to stay on the "good side".

Like... Mr. House, the "yes man" robot? The RNK, etc.

Do i kill Mr House or let him live, etc? The RNK doesn't like Mr. House, nor "yes man".

Slightly confused as far as these things go... or maybe i'm just not paying enough attention to the dialogue.

Thanks man, that means a lot to me actually!

Yeah, the reason why i started working with him is because he has some good lyrics (this track is not the best example, the lyrics are cool, but he has some other tracks with real good messages/lyrical content). You can find his youtube page in the video description of that track by the way... check out "come home" and "city limits" from his page.

Many people have forgotten what Hip Hop is actually about (something good, positive, blabla), and he is one of the few people that still take pride in the original culture that is/was Hip Hop.

I'll keep you posted!

No, it doesn't. Some of the arguments you posted do however (IMO).

Little update on my side...

Sometime ago i did some collab work with an MC called Big Slim from the states.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt2wYQzZDyo

Recently he approached me and told me to call his homie who's doing the studio work for him, he'd like to talk about doing some business together.

They have a brand called CapRule which consists of a group of MC's so far, including Big Slim. They now want to build a team of producers to add to the brand. I was asked to join this team and after some phone conversations yesterday, i agreed to join and work for their brand.

I'm excited!

Quote from Boris Lozac :I wonder how all that car dealership and ulocking is gonna work online? What if someone gets the game like in february, and there's a competition going online in a car he has yet to unlock?

He will have to unlock the car first? I mean, come on, was that even a serious question?! :banghead:

There are several posts in this thread from what seems to be intelligent and smart people speaking of their personal first hand experiences regarding this subject.

The funny thing is, those posts get somewhat ignored by the people who post their scare tactic induced views on the subject. I wonder if they don't want to hear the truth and therefor ignore those posts.

I think i'll eventually rent a small room/studio sometime. At the moment it's all in my apartment. The room itself isn't that bad actually (old house, wooden floors, there's a bed and a "hanger"? with some clothes on it in the same room, etc), but the place where i have everything set-up is terrible... small desk, wall to the left side, window in the back, no room basically.

I'm debating on re-arranging my apartment, but i think it's no fun living in a "studio", so i'll probably go for the other option and rent a little studio (sometime next year, after paying taxes :razz.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Ooh they look fancy!

I've been watching mic preamps and A/D converters on eBay this week. Can't really afford them but I need them.

I couldn't really afford all this stuff either... as i said, i took the money i should have used for paying taxes. I figured it was either me waiting for the gear, or the government waiting for their taxes.

I think i went the right way with the new setup, even tho it means i'll have to start again regarding mixing/mastering. Thanks to these monitors i've already found out that i did a terrible job regarding that so far.

Regarding parents and their views on drugs, etc...

My parents have always been kind of open minded when it came to us kids having our first parties, experimenting with drugs, etc. We openly talked about these topics at home, and i think it was good like that. They didn't encourage us to take drugs (and there were clear lines/rules about hard drugs (cocaine, heroin, etc... not like any of us kids would have wanted to try those anyway)), but they preferred us to be honest about it and not hide it from them or lie about it when we wanted to try something.

I remember how my mom once told me "i would prefer if you smoked a joint a day instead of half a pack of cigarettes".

My parents didn't take any drugs by the way (apart from the occasional glass of wine).

Now let's take our family as an example and compare it to the neighbours family, where drugs were a big tabou. They told their kids to never do drugs, it's something bad, we don't tolerate it, blabla. Their kids came over to our house to smoke their weed, because they knew our parents didn't mind. They pretended to be the perfect kids in front of their own parents (my parents encouraged them to be honest with their parents, they didn't have the guts to do it tho).

Now let's go forward in time about 10 years.

My brother has just finished his law studies and is on his best way to become a lawyer. He's married, no kids yet but can't be long, beautiful and smart wife, lives in a beautiful house, blabla... perfect life. Takes no drugs at all beside some alcohol from time to time.

I have a good job as an event manager, good income, nice apartment, spare money to finance my love for making music, happy life, blabla. To this day, i smoke weed, but stay clear from other drugs. I don't drink.

And now the other two kids from the "perfect" neighbour family...

The daughter has married a man who does nothing but drink too much, problems at home all the time, divorced now, single mother with three kids and no outlook, you get the idea.

Their son has married a "party girl" dumb as a stick, they met at a rave. He's had several drug problems with hard drugs, got arrested numerous times, was in jail, had to pay huge fines for drug abuse, etc. Problems at home, physical fights, divorce, she has the kid now... he still has drug problems, tried to kill himself in the car, etc.

Go figure.

Quote from thisnameistaken :The line between musician and music listener is getting blurry these days.

I think if you don't have any instrumental skill (and that could be turntablism too IMO) or compositional skill (pasting samples together is creative, but is it the act of a musician?) then you aren't a musician.

My dad used to listen to vinyl records, but I never heard him call himself a DJ.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvc0hYcv5XM

I think it is.

Depending on the way you look at it, samples are like notes, controllers (to some extent) can be instruments. An MPC is a good example, and in this video the samples are close to actual notes/keys on a piano, instead of just triggering two or three different samples.

I know what you're trying to say, and i basically agree, but it has nothing to do with sample based music. The keyword is "instrumental skill". A sampler/sequencer like an MPC, depending on the samples, does really feel like playing an instrument (and while i'm not the next paco de lucia or oscar peterson, i do know how it feels to play a guitar, or a piano... in other words, an instrument).

Look at the video and tell me that's not a musician. Well, ok... he actually plays instruments aswell, so you win.

I always thought the mx-5 would be quicker in slow corners tho, because of the weight difference of the two cars. Maybe it was just the driver however, and the mx-5 would really be quicker than the s2000 in such corners... i remember how i would annoy porsche drivers in my mx-5 at trackdays in the slow corners, because i was always on their ass and they couldn't pull away (until there were faster corners or straights).

Quote from RasmusL :I'd rather an MX-5 than an S2000. It's nice to brag about HP/L, it's just not very relevant when you're driving it

I had an mx-5 before i got the S2000. A friend of mine still has an mx-5, 1.8l 146hp. We've been to the track together and the mx-5 can't keep up (it's just as much fun tho). In slower corners it can be as quick as the s2000, or in other words, manage to keep up, but that's about it. The S2000, even on a slow track, will gradually pull away and eventually lap the mx-5 given enough time.

IMO, the S2000 is a step up from the mx-5 in every aspect. Especially when you're driving it.

Anyway, i'm obsessed with my car... i better get out of here.
