Good guitars indeed. Played one of them in a shop once, really amazing guitars, built very well and the one i've tried had a really nice sound.

They make some nice little tube amps aswell.

Quote from thisnameistaken :That's true, but cheap guitars these days are pretty decent.

Might be true, it was 17 years ago when i bought that first guitar. Getting old...

I took guitar lessons for about half a year back then. I had a pretty cool guitar teacher which teached me a lot of swear words in the process of trying to tune that guitar every five minutes during lessons...

I agree with the people saying an amp will make more of a difference than a guitar (also the tube comment, well, i don't think you need to "go and die" if you're playing on a transistor amp, but tube amps sound A LOT better indeed).

However, this really depends on the guitar TVE already has. If it's an uber cheap beginner guitar, it's actually the guitar that will make a big difference, not the amp. My first guitar was some cheap ass beginner guitar (i think the brand was called Maverick). It did cost about 250 Euro new. I also had a 10W Marshall amp. One day i bought a new guitar (Jackson) which was about 700 Euro. The difference in sound quality was freaking HUGE (using the same amp)!

Just saying, a shit guitar will always sound shitty, even with a better amp (not that my 10W Marshall was any good).

Looks good, have been playing guitar 4 years, isn't kinda easy imo.

You're either not playing anything that requires some skill ("power chords" don't) or you're very gifted/talented. It certainly isn't "kinda easy".

Quote from The Very End :I am using Toneworks KORG AX1500G modell, that's the AMP right?

That's not an amp, it's a guitar effects pedal. You can connect it either to speakers or just use headphones, but ideally, you would connect it to an amp. Guitar --> Effects Pedal --> Amp.

Quote from Dajmin :I got this last weekend and have to say I'm loving it. It's the kind of game that reminds me why I love gaming in the first place.

The genius part of the difficulty is that it rarely feels like the game is being unfair (although I did think that about the guards on the first prison level for a bit). It always feels like you've died because you did something wrong. It's frustratingly brilliant.

Had my first PvP invasion as well, in the middle of an area I'd never been before, which scared the crap out of me. He ran up to me so I started slashing away at him, expecting my untimely expiry. He ran off and must have fallen to his death because the next thing I knew it told me I'd been victorious

Glad you're enjoying it. I think i need to play this some more...

Btw, the guards can indeed be a bit unfair in that prison level, your best bet is to wait for them behind pillars, then when they come around the corner, hack and slay!

Neither is a sim... both are supposed to be fun. Better physics = more fun. My god some of you people can't handle a bit of criticism and comparison...

Ok ok... it's the most fun, best game of all time! Happy?

Jibber, so you say GTA is like rtractor ? Thats not fair

But seriously, GTA has more of a comic style to it and that's what makes it funnier. Alone how the cars wobble around going over a bump or through corners, wherby Mafia has a more "serious" behavior, without being "stuck-up".

No, i'm saying GTA is like LFS. Mafia II is like Rfactor. Stupid comparison, i know...

And i agree about the cars behaviour in Mafia II, on first glance it looks much more realistic. After playing it for a few hours i can't help it tho... the physics in Mafia feel much more canned. In GTA everything feels like it's calculated in real time... even after you've taken the same corner a thousand times already, it never feels exactly the same... this is why i still have fun everytime i start up GTA. In Mafia, after a few hours of messing around, i feel like i've seen it all already (taking a corner sideways, maybe hitting the curb (sidewalk) a little... it looks the same almost every time. Or when you damage your car and your wheel starts to whobble, looks the same every time, so after 50 times you feel like "yeah, i've seen this before").

Don't get me wrong tho, i'm not trying to bash Mafia II. I'll buy it and i'm sure i'll have lots of fun with it.

Quote from Stiggie :Wasn't comparing it to GTA IV, because.. like i said in the same comment comparing those 2 doesn't make sense in my opinion.

It makes a lot of sense, they are both sandbox games. It's not like we're comparing an FPS and a racing game. The setting isn't much of an issue, cars from the 50's still had to obey to the laws of physics. Fist fights and shooting a pistol were pretty much the same 50 years ago aswell, etc...

Quote from JazzOn :Of course it's a different feel. The city in GTA is one of todays, with huge skyscrapers, 4-lane city roads, crack-junkies running around, many different sportscars, helicopters, cellphones, over-population (xD). simply things that were not present in the 50's.

I was mainly talking about how the gameplay feels. For me it's like LFS vs. Rfactor. One is looking a bit dated but feels smooth and natural, the other looks great but feels a bit "static" in comparison.

@Nathan
I'll try that tonight!

I've played the demo for about four hours so far. For the most part i'm really enjoying the game. I think they did a great job with the setting, really feels like you're in an old movie from the 50's. Cars are fun to drive, shooting is fun, overall a good game i think! I'll get it for sure.

By the way, in defense of Bose (not that i really want to defend him, but yeah)... regarding the comparison with GTA. It was funny when a friend of mine came over to check out the Mafia demo. We played the demo for about two hours, then we started up GTAIV just for fun. I didn't tell him about the argument in this thread, but guess what his first reaction/comment was... in his words: "GTA feels more lively, like, there's a much better atmosphere in GTA, everything is more smooth and fits together perfectly, blabla". And to be honest, i felt the same way.

GTA doesn't look as nice as Mafia II, but it's a lot more "smooth" and polished regarding feel and gameplay (IMO). No matter how much you've played it, the world and physics/gameplay (especially driving) feel just soo much better in GTA.

I'm not complaining tho, as i said, i really enjoyed the demo of Mafia II and i'm sure i'll enjoy the full game just as much. Just saying...

Looks very good in some way. But also a little weird when being pushed away by the car driving through it. Also, underwater smoke...

Looks better than GTA tho, i agree.

Driving physics seem much better than in the video i remembered. Should be fun.

What about the car physics? I remember seeing an early gameplay vid long time ago, back then they looked quite terrible (compared to GTA, not LFS :razz.

EDIT: Nothing much changed about that i guess. I may pass this game if it's really bad. *goes looking for gameplay vids*
