I'm currently using the latest nVidia driver with a 6800 PCIx card. I've been tooling around with Riva tuner and have set up an LFS profile. Anyway, I'm very happy with the FPS that these levels of filtering have allowed me, but I'm wondering if there is a driver which gives better image quality. If I dont clamp my negative mip map LOD bias, then the results i get in game appear as if only half of the filtering is used which is weird. Looks more like 4xAA and 4xAF instead of the full 16 I've selected. I know I'm at 16x in the driver cp no doubt about it. When I change it to clamp, everything is smoothed but a little blurry. I'd rather have things a little blurry than to have ultra sharp textures that seem to be unaffected by tbe insane level of AA and AF applied. Currently I'm using 16X AA and 16X AF @ 1600x1200
Could I improve my image quality with a diff driver?
I use a DFP with the 4.60 drivers. I note the max lock of any given car from the chart in the S2 manual and set up the wheel rotation to that value in the logitech control panel. Then I set the same in the game options. Finally, I set lock in garage to something like 23-25.
This gives a nice realistic feel since I think this would be considered 100% linear. Also, I set FF forces in logitech CP to 100 for strength, and everything else off. In game I change to suit my taste via the >< keys. This is probably the best way to go about setting up a DFP anyway.
I'm getting irritated. Can someone tell me where to download the exect version of LFS that I need to get this to work? Once I do that, which of the 3 mekanic zips do i need from the first post? Maybe someone should write really clear instructions including the url to the correct version of LFS and update the first post. I tried every combo. Oh, and please tell me what "select car" means? Does it mean go into the garage and select a car and stay there? Do it mean select a car and go back to main menu? Does it mean to select a car and start the race? Does it mean select a car and drop your pants? :-) What is the magical action that will let us know whether the program failed or not? I know its not working becuase it still says car not found or select car, but what needs to be done succefully at that step besides having everything else above done right? In other words, does just going into the garage make it work becuase a car is already selected. I tried selecting another car afterwards but I dont know what to do or what to exepect after that point. No need to reply here, maybe put any additional granular instructions in the first post so other who downloaded it and gave up like I did could benefit. I cant wait to try this out.
I'd like to hear your analysus tristan when you return from your rf excursion. I noticed it right away becuase like I said in a different thread, I had been away from LFS for a long time. rFactor in comparison felt too bouncy as if the car was floating above the track with a set of canned FF effects under yer ass. Now LFS feels more like it does when I get into my real car everyday so in the end, that's what counts the most.
What we really need are analog paddles on our wheels. This was we can just hold it down all the way for a complete head turn or just a little to glance at the mirrors.
Or maybe devs can find a slick way to fade in the mirror view dynamically when you press the left or right buttons. I envision a virtual mirror-like view being faded in and blurred into view with some level of transparenct. This way you can keep your eyes on the road and still have a picture of what's going on behind and on the side of you in your peripheral vision on the monitor. Almost like superimposing what you would normally see in your side mirrors. You would have to find a slick way to work this out so its useful without being annoying. Or just replace the driving view with a full side view with a normal out of the front window view superimposed on that. I think its possible. What do you guys think?
I never should have never come back to LFS. It just rendered rfactor useless. I'm almost at the point of regretting that purchase. It's pretty horrible in comparison. Maybe it's still early and modders may turn things around, but i'm not holding my breath. At best, what will it ever turn out to be? GTL or GTR? I have those damn sims already. Oh, I forget, its going to be GTR with lighting effects. Well, that's what GTR2 is for. Jeeze, unless someone makes a convincing F1 1967 mod for it, i really dont see the future of it. Not to mention that LFS is still developing, and NKpro is right around the corner. Maybe I'm wrong, but i feel rFactor is the biggest waste of time. Good for ISI for making a few extra bucks on top of the license they rented out to the Simbin crew. I have a feeling that by the time anything decent comes around, S3 will be out. Even the latest track - Hockenheim suffers from the same crap quality colors and over saturation. You never really appreciate the awesome tracks the LFS devs have built until you go across the street and try the other sims. Sorry for the rant, just had to get it off my chest.
LOL, if I could just do that in my head there wouldn't be a problem. The truth is I suck at math. My cranium is more on the creative side. So, here's a creative idea - maybe someone with a math oriented brain could write a little plugin that could display the temps in F for me in game.. :-0
Ahh, I just followed the link axus posted. It doesnt seem like the program included all of those but I'm puzzled because blackwood should have worked at least. I will try again. Thanks everyone.
Cant get this to work. I followed the instructions in the readme but it complains about not being able to load the track map or something like that. I copied the files from the zip into the proper lfs folders and still nothing.
I think it would be fun to join the carpark stage online and have a little descruction derby. I tried this last night. There was one server hosting this track and one guy logged into it. I join and tried to get things started but he thought it was more important to try and get over the fence, over and over again. We never got to race around and and play chase. Anyone up for it?
Is there a way to tell the game to display the tire temps display via F9 in something Americans understand? I'm used to monitoring my CPU in celcius but I would like the tire temps to be in Farehnheit.
I hear ya Bob. I should be comparing to real life cars but all I do is sim race :-) Basically I was using the default setup on the XRG or XRT, not sure which. Not sure if that setup is really oversteery or not. But when I take a corner too hard, it's almost as if the rears loose grip completely and swing around. Just seemed odd to me. If this is working as designed and I have a flawed setup I'm kewl with that. i guess I need to do some setup tweaking.
Here's the replay. All the way at the very end. Prolly not the best example. But this happens to me alot. Maybe it's just me. I'll try and get a better example, but this is a start. Is there a way to make the speedo give me MPH instead of KPH? I hate not being able to tell how fast I'm really going.
Like I posted in my "I'm back" thread, I'm very glad to be back in LFS land. One thing that I cannot figure out is a certain behaviour I experience with most cars. I will try to describe it as best as I can and hopefully someone can tell me what's up and what's causing it.
I'm driving along at moderate speed aproaching a medium corner. Yhe car does something strange in the middle of the corner. At least it's strange to me becuase I cant seem to duplicate this behaviour in ISI sims. Anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong, but if i tried to take a corner at decent speed without fear and my setup was crap, I should just push into the outside wall right? What happens in game is that the car seems to just loose all grip in this scenario and the backend swings around in towards the outside of the turn. Like I said, I would expect to be on the outside wall becuase I'm either going too fast and loosing grip or my setup isn't set up for good turn in. Anyway something happens and my car acts like I just applied the handbrake and swings my ass around. What is this called and why does it happen. I haven't tried this in real life so I'm not sure if it's normal or the flaw some people mention with LFS physics. All i want is an explanation so I can just get back to enjoying my time with LFS instead of figuring out how to correct it. Everything else is top notch.
Shortly after getting S2 when it first came out, I gave LFS a rest and went on playing all my other sims. All of em are ISI based except for the awesome GPL and nr2003. Anyway, got tired of rFactor so i decided to give LFS another try. All I have to say is that I'm blown away!! Playing the other games, day after day for months made me realize something. The ISI sims don't have nothing on LFS. Man, the physics on LFS are so damn good that it gave me goosebumps when I fired it up last night. For the first time in a long while I actually felt connected to the road. I played it before but it took many months of fooling with ISI sims to make me realize that LFS is so top notch it's not even funny.
Also, I miss being able to race without constantly having to worry about tweaking plr files and crap. For what this game does, and for how damn good it looks, I'm blown away that I can run it at 1600x1200 with 8xAA and 16xAF and still get 80FPS. I'd get 8FPS in rfactor if i even thought about attempting this.
Anyway, I'm not saying that I'm going to uninstall everything else but i did want to share my enthusiasm regarding my rediscovery of LFS.
Just tried these and I really like em. Give me a lot more confidence in my driving over the default setups. I dont seem to get that nasty oversteer/spin each time I take an easy right hander. Thanks.
