And what happens if said LFSer on dial-up wants to get an S2 license? They have to download LFS again, whether it be a smaller Demo-S2 package or the whole S2 download again, the user is still downloading all of LFS at some point, which makes the point of a "lite" version moot.
And, just to add to the end of this post, I've worked out another way the system could be bypassed: The non-legitimate user edits his hosts file to make all domains relating to the system point at localhost. He then carries on playing, the system unable to contact LFS' servers
The recording program most people use is Fraps. The demo version lets you record 30 seconds of video and leaves a watermark at the top, but the full version removes these restrictions. Very good program
The requiring LFS to have a net connection is pure silliness. I know of several people who are still on dial-up (I was at one point) and they are charged *per minute*. Requiring an active net connection in order to play LFS would instantly say to them "you gotta pay to play this game", and would alienate them for sure.
Secondly, what happens if the player's net connection goes down during a single player race? LFS would complain under your proposed system, and prevent the (legitimate in this example) player from accessing even the demo content. If I was a demo racer, I would be VERY annoyed by that.
EDIT: Thirdly, scanning through ALL of LFS's files would be a rather nasty burden. Are you sure it's such a good idea to do that?
nlite modifies the *install cd*, not a current install. In order to use an nlited copy of XP you need to reinstall with the CD nlite creates (you cannot simply remove features from a current install)
It doesn't use 2GB just to keep them programs open. It uses it to cache other (commonly used) applications in RAM, so they start up faster. People seriously need to look into Vista's memory management (including SuperFetch, which is responsible for the caching) before they complain about high RAM usage
16,265 miles
£45 for an hour at local karting track, Can get about 1.7 laps per minute in at lap record pace, track is just over half a mile.
Total cost to Kart my distance: £14351.47
Total spent on LFS: £54
Saving: £14297.47
Cheap eh?
Being honest with you, I don't have a clue. I've never used clockgen, and as such don't know how it works. Sorry, but laptops just aren't designed for this kind of thing
And there'll always be hotter days. When overclocking you need to make sure it'll stay within reasonable temperatures no matter what the weather is. That way you avoid it overheating in warmer weather
If that's at idle, then I wouldn't go any further. Give it a stability test (Prime95 it, etc) and if that throws up any errors within a few hours or gets above about 65 degrees then reduce the clock speed. If there are no errors and it stays below 65, then leave as is. Once that's done, go play LFS and stuff, do what you normally do with the laptop.
The reason I'm saying not to go any further is that you'll be seriously risking the laptop if you do. I'm sure you don't want a dead laptop
I think we need to calm down a little, guys...constant flaming isn't going to get the message accross at all. Instead, I have something to say to harjun: PLEASE, for your sake, think about what you're doing here. I'm sure you're aware that lying won't get you anywhere, and I'm also sure that people here would appreciate the truth from you. It's just a matter of realising people won't believe several different stories at the same time. Have a think about it, and when you're done, come back with the truth. You'll be better off for it
Oh, I meant my 500MB+ usage issue but bleh
Just did some more testing, no matter what combination of stuff I disable I get the same amount of RAM usage, so it's either an incompatibility with Vista in general or 64 bit Vista
I think it's somewhat an issue with Windows thinking it's a 64 bit app...it's clearly not, as all you 32-bit users are running it. Somehow I think it may be confusing things a little...
Hmm, seems your connection is too fast for the server the speedtest is on eh? (I happen to know FEL's connection is 100mb down, 10mb up) :P
I can't seem to get a speedtest in at the moment...combination of parents on BitTorrent and me being on wireless makes the speed stupidly slow for the connection I have
1.49 seems to totally eat RAM here. I opened it, and until it connected it was using about 4MB. As soon as it connected with LFS, RAM usage went through the roof. Screenshot of Task Manager attached (I'm on Vista Home Premium x64 BTW)
