My first year of insurance was just under £1000 (€1125 or so) and thats only third party fire and theft! This year its £806 (€906) and thats still not fully comp! ('96, 60 hp)
I think it is a tad cheaper, every time i use online uk insurance comparison websites they come to several grand every time. At least over here its under a grand. But if i get a bigger engined car at all, it'll be too much for me to afford.
It was all i could afford at the time, it was either that or a choice of ragged to near destruction Saxo's! And i've only ever seen one golf driven by a teenager between the age of 17-20 and he wasnt chavvy. The only few chavs ive seen driving them are 20+ driving banged up about to fall apart GTi's. Might be a chavvy car over there, luckily doesn't seem to be here though.
This is my BEAST!
I joke haha,
It's only a little 1.4 1996 Mk3 Golf. Goes pretty well and handles very nicely!
So far its all i can insure (curse you expensive uk insurance!), but at some point i do plan on getting a GTI and then a VR6.
I've not really done that much to it in the 3-4 months Ive had it. Only noticable thing on the outside is 4300K Low Beam HID's and the blacked out front indicator/drl/foglights.
Besides that its mainly just the sound system on the inside with a couple other bits and bobs. Planning on building a twin sub enclosure soon as i need to get some experience in for doing it for a few friends builds. Found some slightly better wheels for it, 16s with low profile tyres, will look nicer on then these. Same color as my petrol cap. And ive also got a front grille the same color too. It's not as nice as majority of the cars on here, but its my baby and i love it .
I had to just to get home last night, but i cant be jump starting it forever though.
It's not really annoying me, im just finding it really pathetic that whenever i say anything you're always their adding your own little comments lol.
Well it might be the ignition, bassicly when i first got it i turned the key and it took about 2 seconds for the starter motor to actually start. It was quite a noticeable delay. It gradually got worse, to the point now where i turn the key and the starter motor just doesnt go. Not sure if its the ignition thats faulty, or if its wires somewhere, or if its the starter motor. Dad says its the starter motor but im going out in a bit to look at it and im going to disconnect the cabling on the back of the ignition and hot wire the car, if it starts then i know its a faulty ignition, if it still doesn't start then its either dodgy cable somewhere or the starter motor has gone.
I don't get what it is with you, everytime i post anything you're in here like a bat out of hell to assume the worst of me :S.
The starter motor has died, not my fault in anyway shape or form. So why don't you go pick on someone else for once, jesus Tomba. You're like a ****ing child.
Pretty good, are you using any amplifiers to power other speakers?
Also have you done anything electrical wise besides just running power cable? I.e big 3? Spesh alternator? Second battery?
Sorry for so many questions, im just looking to upgrade my system and its nice to know what other people have done and how thats turned out.
Currently subwoofer wise got a Orion Cobalt amp running at 400W RMS 2ohm.
With a Shark 600W RMS Twin 4Ohm Coil ran in 2ohm.
Gonna replace the sub soon as i majorly doubt its 600W RMS as its not packing much of a punch.
Edit: Nvm! Just seen your wiring diagram, explains everything tbh, and its pretty cool haha.
Urm just the 1. This is the same one that you commented on FB.
I've had 2 cars since passing my test, neither one has been crashed, neither one has even come close. Because now i actually know how to drive, and i know what speeds are silly to corner at and what aren't.
I wouldn't say its dangerous really, the only time it was dangerous was the one brake working. My car still stopped pretty quickly but just to be safe i just drove slower, and pretty much drove it straight to get checked.
I don't know if my crash would effect insurance, it was before i had a license, and i wasn't insured, and luckily nobody else was involved in it. It might just add 1 to the statistic of teen crashes, but as there was no insurance involved anywhere i don't know if insurance companies would take notice.
Is this 2 year probation something all of the UK has? It seems we don't have this law here.
I don't think you would have got a ban if it was a small crash.
I didn't get a ban even though i had a big crash, which was completely my fault, yet no ban though. So it must have been a bit more then just a small crash?
Eitherways post pics of this demolished front end!
Heres one of mine. :/
Now im driving a bog standard VW Golf Mk3, nothing special at all about it, 1.4 8v. But it was given to me for free so im not gonna complain. Although really not amused by all the problems its given me recently! Blowing backbox, terrible handling in the rain, bent drivers wishbone, left headlight points at the floor, right headlight points at the sky, indicators sometimes dont work, indicators sometimes decide to work when im braking and haven't even touched them :/. The other day i got in my car and found only one brake to be working! Which then sorted itself later in the day.
But oh well, most teenagers first few cars are meant to be pretty shitty haha.
Nah no need, I've got special battery terminals which tell me the voltage of my battery, so when it starts to get low i can just turn my car on. Although the battery I've got seems to be quite good, i have a total of about 1000w RMS at the moment amp wise and its loud quite often and its yet to run low.
New tyres on my wheels now would be good, but would rather slightly bigger wheels, they would be wider so more surface area on the road.
Because my dad doesnt pay for it all? I do. And i don't shit money.
Don't particularly need to drive that fast to notice it, i can sometimes feel it doing speed limit and cornering hard. But I've driven two of my friends cars, and they both have slightly bigger wheels then me and they feel like they handle a lot better. Both being Mk3 Golfs as well.
Yup, ive got a lovely Golf Mk3. I spend alot of time in it so i want it to be as entertaining as possible. But its still gotta handle well too! Ive got new wheels lined up next, 13" are just giving me no grip at all.
I have an old Alpine headunit, came out before the iPhones but has an extension cable from the back of it to play music through ipods.
On iPods it works fine, and charges them. But with my iPhone 3G it doesn't charge but still works fine, i dont get any of the problems that you're getting.
I don't have any pictures of my car yet, but its a Volkswagon Golf Mk3 1.4.
I've found what you might call a "bug" in it, take the keys out, turn the light switch to on (not just sidelights), set something electrical on such as wiper blades or heating, and then flash your lights. The electricals turn on! With no key in the ignition! I tried it in a Mk4 polo as well, did the same thing.
It amuses me quite a bit haha.
I didn't realize the whole town had been destroyed! I went on last night quite late, maybe 4-5. I was half asleep and didn't see anything.
Although to be fair, i literally /home, walked into my house, collected what i needed, then /warp city went under the mob farm. And then repeat last two actions.
Did that over and over for about an hour, so if the town had been destroyed i literally would not have seen as i never looked anywhere besides where i was going.
Things i did notice was the water fountain had been turned to lava, and there was water in my house.
Im thinking chances are it had happened before then but in my sleepyness i really did not notice.
Maybe if we all put up the times we were on and what the town was like at that point we can make a guess around about when the town was destroyed.
Logged in today and went donwstairs to the mob farm to see that someone had taken a bit of lava, smashed some glass so the lava moved a different way, and removed ladders.
Nothing 5 minutes couldn't fix but bit rude that it was done in the first place tbh!
The ones i have look slightly different.
And i didn't buy for looks, i bought for road grip, my current wheels are understeer in the dry, and no grip at all in the wet.
Somebody offered these to me and the tyres on 3 are great, so im happy to get laughed at by chavs, who i don't even like anyway, if i get extra grip on the road.
