Maybe some of you remember this
thread back in November about a project for school (I'm studying car design). The presentation was today, and I'd like to share the final result with the LFS community.
Keep in mind that people usually think a designer is there only to design beautiful things, and that's not right. We're almost inventors, we must be creative and we must think about how to solve problems. We must be able to imagine the future, because we design for the future. What I mean is that the purpose of this project is not to design a beautiful car, is much more, and aesthetics is something secondary.
That said, I'll explain the concept:
Nvidia has three different kind of customers: people who don't even know they have an Nvidia graphics card and as long as their computer works they don't care if it's Nvidia or Durex, 3D modelers, and then gamers and/or overclockers. The car has been designed for those last ones, thus, is a car to have fun. But you can have fun with many cars in the market today, so, why is the Nvidia car different?
Well, usually videogames try to meet real life, but in this case, real life meets videogames. The front part of the car, even the floor, is transparent, and the driver is seated as low as possible. This makes his view like the bumper camera in a videogame, seeing only the road. Then there is a rear seat. This driver can drive seeing the car from above/behind, that means, like the exterior camera in a racing videogame. To mix even more these two worlds, virtual and reality, drivers can choose any control available in racing games. There is a gamepad, a couple of joysticks and a steering wheel with pedals so drivers can select the one they prefer at any moment. They can also switch the control of the car between them, that means, both drivers can drive (not at the same time).
The car is powered by an electric engine in each rear wheel (I'm sorry, but petrol engines are not part of the future). The fact that is rear wheel drive gives more fun to drive, and also having separated engine in each wheel makes it easier to control while drifting.
I know the car is impossible to produce and sell because of the regulations and all that stuff, but that's not the point of this project. There are things I still have to explain but I've written too much already so is enough
and anyway some of them are hard to understand for someone who's not a designer so it's worthless.
So enjoy the pictures and feel free to criticize. By the way I know is not perfect and teacher told me a couple of things to improve, but my mark was still 30/30
