Well yes, by moving a magnet larger than the compass needle, over the needle, you are changing the direction of magnetic charge on the electrons. With a big enough magnetic force, this will completely reverse the direction of charge on these electrons in the magnet, thus reversing the poles.

Understand?

Quote from NotAnIllusion :"Nick suddenly passed me on the inside into the last corner, just as I was about to start my flying lap", technicality, but still

Well, I guess that would still ruin DC's lap, and if Nick wasn't going to complete that lap anyway... meh I dunno...

Its not the most controversial penalty of recent times anyway

Can someone one tell me why in a relaxing TT session with 3 incident points I gain nearly +0.5 SR. But in a race, starting from second, getting into first, getting lots of pressure from behind while trying to pass stubborn back markers and finishing with 0 incident points and a greatly increased blood pressure, I only get a +0.1 SR?

I feel short changed :P

"The magnetic fields that are responsible for the interesting behaviors of magnets can be created either by (1) moving electric charge or (2) changing electric fields. We can ignore the second process because it has very little to do with permanent magnets. Instead, let's focus our attention on the first process: moving electric charge producing magnetic fields. Whenever electric charges flow through a wire, a phenomenon that we call an electric current, they create magnetism. Many appliances use electricity and electric currents to create magnetism, notably televisions, motors, and audio speakers. But a permanent magnet doesn't use an obvious electric current to create its magnetic field. Instead, it uses the spinning character of the electrons inside the material from which that magnet is made. Electrons are electrically charged and they have an intrinsic spinning character. A simplistic view of an electron is as a spinning, electrically charged ball. Since its charge is in motion, an electron acts as a magnet and has both a north pole and a south pole. In most materials, the magnetic electrons are turned in opposite directions, canceling out one another's magnetism so that the overall material is non-magnetic. But in a few special materials, including most steels, the cancellation is imperfect and some magnetism remains. In a permanent magnet, this remaining magnetism is particularly apparent. The material is, in effect, a big collection of magnetic electrons that all work together to create a large magnet."

The answer is in the above text. You know about electrons and their charge right? and how they move around?

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Btw, Heidfeld gets grid penalty for impeding Coulthard. Neither was on a hotlap at the time:

Quote from lerts :well are you suggesting me to pay to see what i offer for free

since i cant see it without paying i cant even be sure its my trick

come on all the guys who dislike me why dont you prove my idea is not original by showing me a link that explains it

so far youve failed

About 5 links down in google:

http://howthingswork.virginia.edu/page1.php?QNum=512

From the article:

"When you use a compass to detect which pole of the magnet is north, be careful not to bring the compass needle too close to the permanent magnet. A strong permanent magnet can remagnetize the compass needle and reverse its poles. To make sure that this hasn't occurred, check to see whether the compass still points toward the north pole after you bring it near strong permanent magnets."

Congratulations, you re-magnetized a compass needle! Have a cookie.

Quote from lerts :yes but my point is that i shade light onto a topic, fixing reversed compasses, that was unavalaible before i made the youtube

the proof you cant find any link in fixing a reversed compass

thats why this idea has some merit i found out independently and very very few people know this trick

how do you explain the lack of info on the net of fixing a reversed compass if you learn this in school?

Took 2 seconds to find, first link on google:

http://scitation.aip.org/getab ... idtype=cvips&gifs=yes

A teaching book that came out in 2003 on how to reverse compass needles

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_ ... a_compass_that_is_180_off

how many compasses can get fixed thanks to me that otherwise would be broken

1 million in 5 years?

How about none, because everyone who has studied physics in school knows this already! Let alone PHD students working in this area of physics. That wiki question was asked by someone who doesn't know anything about magnets (probably you :shrug, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been discovered!

Imagine the hundreds of scientists and PHD students working on the magnets in the LHC, with decades of knowledge. You're saying that by rubbing 2 magnetised objects together you now know something they dont?!

Seriously...

Quote from duke_toaster :What's the betting someone will try to take LH out at T1? It's less likely if there is a rolling start due to it being wet.

Well I don't think Kimi is the sort of driver to purposely force someone else off the track, and he's on the dirty side.

All Hamilton has to do is keep in front of Massa, because Kimi is light apparently so he has a chance to overtake at the first pits.

Yeah it is really silly to only alow credit cards when a lot of Europe don't use them...

One solution is to go to fairfx, buy a currency card with the amount of dollars you need for iracing, and use that as a one time credit card.

Not ideal by any means but it works.

I can only think of:

http://www.racer.nl/

it's a project aiming for realism (though last time I tried it was no where near LFS) where the community can make cars and tracks, and a lot of those tracks are free roam roads.

Well if all the drivers get vocal about the current steward situation (except Massa and Kimi of course) then maybe they can pressure a change.

Reading Heidfelds article the current system is just asking for trouble in every way.

Will 1.03 include that Hillclimb car and track? I remember seeing a vid of that and it looked pretty sweet.

If I am able to get a good impression of the next patch from the demo (when its released :P) I might just buy it.

I don't see why not, it worked fine in the 80's. If they make the cars easier to overtake and ban refueling that will mean the races are more about on track action than tactics, which everyone wants. There wouldn't be any problems with re-fueling when the safety car is out either.

I'd suggest that the FIA need to make sure the rules as black and white as possible and only give out penalties when they can PROVE a driver deserves a penalty. I'd like to see even a tiny bit of evidence that Bourdais was to blame for the contact with Massa.

Of course I wouldn't be surprised if they don't change anything and continue to act like idiots, because that's what they do best

Quote from N I K I :I would like to ask any potential makers of that avatar to give up on the idea, because first you are not L. Hamilton and second, L Hamilton himself didn't deserve to be on this forum with his driving.

*huge sigh*

Hell if you admire any driver, don't mention that in public because you'll be sure to be hunted down by someone! Who do you think you are, supporting a driver that not everyone likes?

If you are good in photoshop you could take the original image and paint over it with a copy of Lewis' helmet.

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :I love my country, I hate the loud mouthed drunks it inspires whenever there is a major sporting event. That is sort of why although I want Hamilton to win the title, I kinda hope he doesn't as it'll just give people an excuse to get very drunk and very loud with the added bonus of very destructive.

I agree on the football part, but I have never seen Formula 1 hooligans roaming the streets drunk before.

I wonder what chants they would sing if there were

I tried GT5P with a mustang, and it understeered horribly, and there was a huge squeal every time I moved the steering wheel. Then if I touched a fence or wall, instant unrecoverable spin.

Didn't feel right at all, so no thanks to drifting in that game. Forza 1 was much more tail happy, so I could have a bit of fun with that.

Quote from evilpimp :Must have missed that part. The only time I heard them talk about Senna and Schumy it was to compare their driving style with Hamilton's.

James said "...He just found the speed, Martin was talking about the drivers that can go out and find it and Hamilton has proved that he is one of them".

Its not directly comparing him to a driving great imo, just saying he found speed when it mattered like other drivers have been able to, and there have been quite a few .

I think the start tomorrow will be pretty key to the outcome, if Kimi can get ahead of Lewis Ferrari may be able to gain an advantage, but if Heikki gets past Kimi, it'll be straight forward for Lewis.
