The less time the clutch is engaged the more speed the car will maintain. As far as sloppy shifts go, well if you reef the clutch in and out really violently, the car is going to lunge forward from the sudden drive returning to the wheels. Best shift (besides a well setup auto) is a straight cut gearbox which requires little (usually only 1st to 2nd) or no clutch at all, and you just slam it into the gear you want
Oh, it makes a difference does it? Bugger, he doesn't have a 1024 version
BTW, the stock "XFG_Default" jpegs are 512x512. How do they end up being 1024x768? Do you have to recreate them from scratch? Or are they just usually resized and cleaned up a bit (should blur/pixelate a bit when doubled in size, right?)
And if everyone conformed to "what's cool" then the world would be a very boring place, indeed!
The thing i love about turbos is the surge of power that builds up. While i do like the snappiness of a torque filled V8, i just can't get enough of that boost, the spool, the sound, the power, the feeling... it's just a mass rush The first turbo car i ever drove was a Ford Laser TX3 (you guys may not know what they are, but they are a small AWD Turbo 1.8L) My mate had one that was worked and he let me give it a gutfull one night, was scary to say the least... i actually couldn't put the pedal on the floor because i was just so overwhelmed. Since then i've driven more powerful cars that make me laugh at the old TX3, but i still remember the feeling like it was yesterday.
I've also been for a ride in a friends dads Holden HQ Ute (old school) which has a 525rwhp small block V8 in it. Most powerful car i've ever been in, absolutely undescribable. He'd put his foot into it, and just felt like time stood still (maybe it was the massive torque converter? lol)
Well built cars are very cool, regardless of how they get their power, as long as they get it
Well, i'm looking for some inspiration. I've tried rendering with 3DS but failed miserably, got stuck when it came time to putting skins on (which is like, step 1 lol) This doesn't mean i'm giving up and asking you guys to do it from now on, i just wanna see what i could be capable of doing myself once i know how
So, a friend of mine sent me this cool Victor Bray Castrol skin that looks nuts in game.
Never thought about that. I thought people would've preferred not having to download them, but i guess you're right!
More variety eh? Ok cool I guess i don't play it enough to got some different content. I'm not really good enough to record 1:24 lap times on Blackwood, so i'll have to think about what people wanna see!
Trust me, i debated with myself whether or not it was worth it. But you get so much more then i thought you'd get.
LFSworld is nuts, it's like your own remote computer with just LFS stuff stored on it
Was in a race yesterday with about 20 other people, F1 cars buzzing past at 300 clicks, people spinning out, packs of cars lined up one after another mounting the ripple strips at high speeds. Awesome is one word i can think of
For example; If you take the engine almost to redline and then decide to flat shift, whilst holding the clutch in for what some people would consider "too long" or long enough to bounce off the limiter a few times and then reef the clutch back off the floor, then yes, you are going to be causing damage to the engine, clutch, gearbox and possibly your diff if it's weak enough.
But if you flat shift before getting too high in the rev range, using just enough clutch to mix in the new gear and being smooth with the whole operation then the only thing you're going to be doing is wearing out the clutch slightly faster.
That's my opinion anyway. I certainly don't go round flat shifting everywhere. It's not necessary when you have enough power and just cruising the streets.
One thing i'd really like to see in the game is the shifting made more realistic, here's how:
Non GT class vehicles - Slower shift speeds. You tap the 'S' button and it actually takes a pre-determined length of time for the shift to complete. Flat shift only available with manual clutch, causes damage to engine.
GT class vehicles - Faster shift speeds. Tap the shift button and it shifts a fair bit quicker then non-gt class shifts. Flat shift only available with manual clutch, minimal damage to engine.
F1 cars with paddle shift - Same as they are now, almost instant shift. No engine damage caused.
Manual/Auto clutch - I play with manual clutch, keyboard and mouse. I think the operation of the 'auto' clutch in LFS makes it a sequential automatic. Therefore, holding down the shift key shouldn't be activating the clutch, thus elminating flat shifting whilst 'auto' clutch. Flat shifting should only be available with the 'manual' clutch IMO.
Very good idea You can bet i'll be back here soon! Got stuck last night and got fed up with it going nowhere, but i'll grab a bottle of Red Bull tonight and have another crack
Wehey, look out! I am now full equiped with Autodesk 3DSMax 8.0
Ok, so i've been playing with a few tutorials for about half hour now, played with the red apple (and teh hidden green one!1!). A little overwhelming! I'm glad i've played with a tiny bit of Q3 map making and have very basic knowledge of view panes and "XYZ" otherwise i would've screamed!
So, like any excited kid, how do i get into the good stuff? How do i render my awesome XRT?
I guess i should start with the noob question and get it over and done with.... When you guys are posting up your rendered images of XRT's and XFG's and what not, what are you actually doing to the file (*what file are you using!?) i tried opening a .cmx file but it didn't recognise the filetype so i'm assuming you either have a converter, or open a different file? Or go to crazy lengths of actually making a complete 3D model of the car and slapping the texture/skin on? (surely not?!)
Any basic rundowns on how to render an LFS car would be mostly appreciated.
Disclaimer: i have no idea how much i am asking of you, so sorry if it's a huge ask and my ignorance offends you.
As i posted that i had only just discovered the was an LFS movies thread (i actually edited that post because i asked if there was a section for LFS movies lol) and have only watched one of the battle between two cars. Now that i know which ones are the good ones, i'll give em a whirl.
