That being said, i'd say we would need a lot more then one person requesting something like this. I can just imagine admin nazi's sitting at their server giggling to themselves pausing the server and ruining peoples races....
I can certainly think of 1000 other things that would be better time spent in development for LFS.
I run an AMD64 3400+ with a 6600GT and if i have graphics on full 1280x1024 then it drops to about 10-15fps. If i record at 800x600 16bit then it does 40fps no dramas.
Fraps doesn't like to capture @ greater then 800x600.
It's still a fairly new thing. It's not as popular as it could be because it costs over $500AUD just to go on it.... Way too expensive. They have to weld brackets to the underneath of your car too, which most people don't want them touching their cars...
I won't ever go on it until the price is halved. It does look like a lot of fun though!
EDIT: Looks like they've brought down their prices!!
Wow, awesome. Who would've thought so many people who play racing sims are muso's
Here's my rundown. Started bass when i was about 13-14. Played till i was about 19-20. I picked up guitar towards my bass retirement. Actually, guitar was the reason for my bass retirement. I found bass SO boring to play after picking up a guitar. The only time i play bass now is to play along with some red hot chili peppers/rage against the machine type slap. To give you an idea, i could play "Get up and jump" without stopping for entire song. By god my wrist is sore by the end.
So yeah i started guitar when i was bout 19. I never really was that technically minded when it came to music. I only know basic scales and can only play power chords and a few standard chords that i've been shown. I wouldn't have a clue how to read charts. I can read tab music, but that's about it. I play by ear.
All said and done i am a drummer to the bone. First time i jumped behind a drum kit was in tafe when i was about 18. SO nervous i played like crap. Anyway i was in a band for a few years with some mates and because i was the bass player, the drummer and i got along really well. Eventually the band ended. Another drummer friend of mine wanted a set of wheels for his car so i swapped him my wheels for his Roland V-Drum kit. I have had it for the last 3 years now and it is my favourite thing ever.
That is cool! Good on the bass player! Pretty amazing to see hammer-ons done so well for so long. The drummer is hitting like a woman. Ain't getting much quieter then that
In the black out parts, they seemed to last a little too long while you were waiting to match up the video with the music. Maybe slow down the motion of the video so it takes up more time in the music and eliminates the need for such long blackouts... edit: just read your first post again and you said that you're going to edit those. But i'll just leave this here anyway
Love the effects though, and as said above, brilliant editing in the last few seconds.
What program are you using to edit? I've really got to get something better then Windows Movie Maker edit: i should really read posts better. You're using Adobe Premier Pro, yes?
Yeah, i dunno i'm kinda on the negative for this one.
I think you're looking at it as more of a "cool" thing then something that's useful.
As said above, if you want to test your car, throw it on the track. You're going to get a much better feedback from the setup by driving it then by looking at the car from outside as it drives over 1cm bumps.
Any ideas of what you'd like done with the pic? Funny? Smoke show? Night time? Rain? Blur? Pamela Anderson on the bonnet in a baywatch bikini? illepall :hyper:
My exact thoughts. I was on a new track the other night in the BF1 and was learning the track at a pretty fast pace (considering i hadn't done the track before). I was making my way through a chicaine at about 120-150km/h (at a guess) and you could probably take this chicaine at about 180-200 if you really were pushing it. Next thing i know some tard comes flying into the back of me and knocks me flying off into the sand. Didn't even apologise. He claims i was going too slow through the corner. I told him it's his responsibility to know where his brake pedal is, and to use it.
I'll bring my point over to our local Australian motorsport, dubbed V8 Supercars. Which is basically a family sedan, stripped, fitted with all the goodies and a 600hp v8 throwin in up front. Sure, it's more precise then that, but im just giving you a brief overview. www.v8supercars.com.au
I don't really follow any other motorsports so i don't know if things are done differently in F1, indy, nascar, touring cars etc etc.... but with SuperV8's if you give up the "line" you basically give up your position.
There are many over-takes done around corners in the SuperV8s because of the driver infront running too wide. If they head too wide then it leaves an open gap for the person behind to brake late and sneak in. If they do get a good enough sneak then the person infront, who is on the outside, generally lets them have it because they know they have made a mistake and have not taken the inside "racing" line. Sometimes if it's a really important race then the wide runner will still give it all he's got and will challenge that position, but there are hardly ever any collisions because if it gets too close then whoever is still behind usually lets them have it.
I've gone to overtake people in LFS through corners to only have the dickheads cut me off. Literally ram me off the road, just because they couldn't take a better racing line. illepall
So that's basically how i see overtaking and racing in general. If you're not "on it" then get off it. If you're not on the racing line, then don't try and cut people off who attempt to over take you. Fact is you wouldn't do it in person because come the end of the race, the person you cut off would probably come up to you and head butt you with his helmet still on... so take the same etiquette you would in person, and if you stuff up, wear it and let the person past.
When you are sitting in a grandstand watching cars "scream past you" then of course all you are going to hear is engine noise.
When you are outside the car, but following it, then you are going to pick up the wind noise because the "camera" with the microphone attached to it is also fighting through the wind at high speed.
It is very realistic wind noise. Go drive on a freeway at 100mph and stick your head out the window.... now jump in an open wheel F1 car and do it at 220mph and tell me if the wind noise is too loud!
I can't stand neons. Oh the amount of destruction Fast and the Furious / NFS Underground has brought upon the automotive industry :arge:
What you should do is put his fully sick 900x600x400mm interheater ontop of his engine and have no bonnet scoop. Then take his air filter and bend up some alloy piping so that filter sits right next to the turbo. Then to top it all off, put a T51 turbo on it, run that at 3psi and put 7 blow off valves along the intercooler piping.
Dunno if TopGear is viewed differently over your side of the world then here down-under... but anyone i know that watches TopGear takes it pretty seriously and really enjoys the information and learning about the cars, not just to see the shiny paint and skiddies that they do :hyper:
Well, i tried out the mouse Y-axis acceleration thingy tonight. I must say, not bad!
The only thing i had trouble with was braking... Either too much or not enough. But for those who don't have analogue throttle/brake, this is quite a good idea and could be put to some good use with a bit of practice.
I can't do it very competitively because my desk has a chunk taken out of it (cheapo desk ) and it's right where my mouse arm is, so too much movement gives me "wood arm"...
SO good having throttle control out of corners though!
EDIT: btw, i recorded a demo of me using the new setup... but when i played the demo back it's really jerky... I'm assuming it has to do with lag from the server? Anyone know how to fix it? For future demos?
