Even if the masterserver would've gone down, people racing on the server would not be affected by that, the masterserver has nothing to do with disconnects he just connects you to the server and prints the server list (among other things). If it's down new people can't connect but anybody already racing won't even notice that until they decide to leave the current server and try joining a new one.
Tried to compile a PSN ID list from people who posted it in this thread, you're welcome to slap me if I forgot about you. Trying to get in contact with the thread starter too so we can have the whole thing where it belongs, post 1.
Well, I just find it hard to believe that 10 different people in completely different locations got connection problems at the exact same time. And no, every time those disconnects happened you could not connect to the server for a short period of time, everyone in my team trying to connect got error messages for a minute or two. Just because you had no problems doesn't imply that the server was running fine.
edit: But it's good to know you at least go for a different server for the 24h, I certainly wouldn't take part on the same server again.
I'm still convinced it was the server or the network from the provider of the server, you could clearly see the lag building up via lfsremote then the connection was lost to remote and nobody could connect to the server for a few minutes. I don't know why always the same teams got booted first but it can't be a coincidence that the server lags and disappears from remote and your tracker on the BC homepage stops working with a timeout message for a short amount of time when the disconnects happen.
We're getting close to Sylvester again I can't help myself but think of: "The same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?" "The same procedure as every year, James." (sorry for the German insider joke)
The rules where clear when you signed up for this, they are used in this very endurance format since years, so either do not take part at all or accept the rules as they are.
http://taxigamer.com/ some nice HD screengrabs on there, seems like his site went berserk with all the traffic so he had to outsource them, try downloading the videos for 720p mp4 files.
If I remember right Fox is one of the keyboard driving Italians, so he got ABS/TC in every car. Some of them took part in GPC, they where always very fast in qualifying but a pain to drive against in the race since they could brake later then anyone else and sometimes accelerated not as fast out of slow corners as you would expect.
http://www.multiupload.com/Y6CN0UDSRF direct download is usually pretty fast for me, otherwise just wait until it mirrored the file to some other hosts.
I would rather see him fixing the netcode once and for all, don't get me wrong I can't wait to test some rainy weather with the f16/1800 or the abarth but it would be so much more important to get the netcode right to finally kickstart the multiplayer part. Right now it is pretty empty again unless you are part of some special "blessed" group of people who beta test new tracks and cars.
Yes the netcode got better in 1.1 but there still are ghost collisions and the over sensitive damage doesn't help either. Look at iRacing/lfs for example even with a constant ping of 170-200ms I still dare to race a lot closer then I ever would in netkar under perfect conditions.
There is a special for unused accounts right now, pay 1 month get 3, offer ends 31.10.2010. Check your emails you should've got an email with some news about the mazda/williams and a promo code.
LMP cars also only do about 45-50min per tank while double or even triple stinting the tyres if I remember right, that would probably also open up possibilities for new strategies. Personally I wouldn't mind getting away from the usual 1h rhythm.
Incompatible Test-patches! The X Test-patch batch provided probably the best racing I ever had in LFS, the crashers and whiners didn't bother to test them so we had full grids of people who actually knew how to race a car, no matter where you started you could count on getting through t1 and have a great battle until the very end. Extra bonus was seeing Scawen in his LX4 every now and then, good old times.
edit: I miss pallu, was good fun trying to beat him when the LRF class was still on ctra, Hyperactive too, tweaked LX was a blast, The Moose always fair and clean racing against him and probably 50 other people I forgot now.
Well I guess you forgot about your post full of accusations and sarcasm on the top of this page already again (plus some more from other people on the previous page), and yes I think that was low... I can't speak for the organizing team but for me it is pretty clear that everybody had a chance to check the rules before any signups or the race even started. When a vocal minority complained about their disconnects they decided to be nice and have a look at those disconnects, I never saw the admin state anything else then removing those who happened in the last sector, which was also mentioned in the 24h TS on raceday already.
Organize your own 24h race if you think you do a better job, they mentioned it a few times already. it was their first and you can't expect everything to run flawless. All that bitterness won't help anybody and just sheds a bad light onto the people involved.
A new low point for inex? You guys knew the rules so suck it up or don't take part at all, can't believe what I'm reading here.
This (german) community tries to organize a nice race, even bothers to get some prices for people to win and looks into disconnects even though it was clearly stated in the rules what happens beforehand and you still complain? (I wouldn't even call that complaining any more, this whole "discussion" is well below any form of good manners)
