Actually it's a 4 core cpu with 8 threads, usually games will not benefit from that. Mostly stuff like encoding or rendering should see gains. At least that was the case when I last checked.
Depends on your current spec I guess, can't say anything about CPU usage on a multiplayer field yet but single player (without AI) it's certainly GPU limited for most I would say. Add a full field of AI's and my 3570k (4 core ivy bridge at 4.2ghz) is starting to struggle.
I'm not sure if you can classify this as a bug but I thought it's worth a try maybe there is a way to get this fixed.
Before 0.6E if you entered a server and people where already on the grid but the lights where red (or not on at all) you could join until the lights went green, with 0.6E if you join a server with people already on the grid the lights will be green on your end no matter what, in reality the lights for everybody else are still red. This makes you miss the race start even though there would be plenty of time to join at the back of the grid.
I guess it's not a common occurrence, but I seem to have a great timing for this to happen to me quite a lot in the past 2 years. Is there any chance this could be fixed without to much work or is this just something we have to live with now that we got faster join times on multiplayer servers?
I just run in pro mode with 100% damage and it worked straight out of the box, no need to tick any boxes.
edit: There was an update indeed, maybe that turned it off again, which would be a shame, I guess I need to turn off auto updates for assetto.
edit2: no more damage after update, bitch move kunos, time to turn off auto updates.
Yes that one comes from deviantart and is floating around already for a while, the shots from the previous page are genuine though. 2 cars with visual damage right now 458 and 500 abarth.
1.0 was also supposed to be out in November or October. I'm pretty sure that was the last time pit stops after 1.0 was mentioned, you never know maybe they had a little time in between testing multi player.
Is it a good thing? yes! Should other things have priority on such a small team? absolutely!
There's still so many small (and slightly bigger) things that remind me why I had a love hate relationship with netkar and of course the elephant in the room multiplayer.
Thats exactly why I initially posted it in the bugs section Moose, it's so easy to miss it in the suggestion part. I was hoping it would be recognized to be more then that, but it sadly wasn't the case.
Thanks for the posts though, it's good to have it on the first page for a couple of hours/days. Maybe we'll find more followers and the importance of a nicely structured in game menu gets a bit more weight, it was always one of the areas where Kunos seemed to struggle. Back in netkar we had a huge mess of ini files already (some of them existing twice or more in different paths) with settings hidden in them that should really be somewhere easily accessible and it looks like that trend is continuing with Assetto.
If everything fails there is still the community to come up with fixes that may or may not work just as well.
Make yourself heard then, I've posted this in the bugs section because I really think it is a major shortcoming of the kunos engine dating back to netkar. But it seems like we're lonely in that matter, it got moved first of all and not many people seem to care enough.
The CD statement is not true any more either these days, lots of games come with online services that require a central server for matchmaking or checking your key or in the case of many new ubisoft games to play at all.
I don't see any reason to not go with steam (or origin, or whatever platform), it is convenient, you always got a backup of your data and the chance that your game access is lost isn't any worse then with a physical copy just take some of the examples above.
No they added that in one of the early patches, in the techdemo and before a certain patch on steam you could start assetto with any card. Now you need to edit the dx11.ini file as posted by pringles
