Ped7g, you are right. Maybe (long shot, I know) R0ut66 was making a reference to some years ago, when the dedicated server was a window with interface, and then Scawen released the DCon, that is only a cmd console, so wine would have a lot less hassle to make it work.

Minecraft does a pretty good job with its UUID. You use username to use commands in game/server, but it internally stores the UUID, so when you ban someone, he can change his name but the ban is still applied.

Quote from MicroSpecV :It is a new PC, hence new LFS install. Thus, that's ruled out already.

TBH, I wouldn't rule it out so fast. You clearly have what seems to be a software problem, with one specific application.

Quote from MicroSpecV :I've tried replacing batteries, using different USB ports, dissembling the entire keyboard and reseating he motherboard and panels, updating drivers, uninstalling the keyboard driver and reinstalling. Nothing works. This lag only happens in LFS.

Because testing another keyboard would have been too much hassle, right? Razz

Also, you don't seem to have tried in a fresh LFS installation.

Year 2018 has come, and so has done our usual racing schedule!

As usual, our year long season is divided in smaller championships. It can be a 'league' (meaning that each week we race with a different car) or a 'cup' (that usually has some theme to them - GTR, RallyX, single-seaters...).

We have started the year with League 2018. 20 races of packed fun each Monday 21:15 GMT.

League 2018 schedule
(bear in mind that our website can be translated into English by clicking on the flag on the right side, or just click here)

In case of a late incorporation there is no drawback, as your 4 worst results are not computed into the total score.

Remember as well, that in case of not being S3 licensed you still have the same chances to fight for the championship, as Rockingham is used just 4 times.

We hope that you enjoy with us this season, see you on track! www.cesav.es

What if I tell you there is even a better* method.

On the spectator monitor, instead of joining a server, open temp.spr/temp.mpr file. This way you can play online, rewatch an action, etc.

*: this method has a few seconds delay, as the replay has to be saved to disk.

Quote from bbman :You are forgetting the most important thing here: screen refresh rate. Capping LfS to 100 fps on a 60 Hz monitor might even be the reason you get screen tearing, as the graphics card and the screen are in sync only every 5th frame... Without vsync, the best chance you'll have is if your fps are a multiple of both game and display refresh rate (and hoping both clocks switch at the same time), ie. for LfS on a 60 Hz display: 300 fps...

So... for every screen refresh you get 3 duplicate frames, and other 2, resulting in tearing like 1-1-2-2-2, 1-1-1-2-2 or 1-2-2-2-3.

I attach you a image of what happens in 1th of a second:
  • Red are new frames at 300 fps.
  • Cyan is LFS 100 Hz/fps refresh rate.
  • Blue is a 60 Hz display.

Can get a newer image running at a higher framerate? Yes, of course you can.
Will you get more than just a few 'better' lines in exchange of running above 100 fps? Not really. You are still getting almost exactly the same tearing while getting more noise and power consumption.

Quote from asyed :Duplicate frames. Did you watch the video on screen tearing?

LFS only renders 100 fps. As you don't have V-sync enabled, so you will get tearing A.K.A. the very last last rendered pixels are displayed.

What the video you linked explains, is only applicable to games that do indeed render at higher fps.

In LFS, you can render at 500 fps, you will get 5 consecutive identical frames. It is not interpolating, as nacim said.

PS: same applies to physics/inputs. You only need to achieve 100 fps, it does not goes beyond that, because both loops are linked in LFS.

Thanks Gutholz, you have explained perfectly what I was going to write.

ABCode, if you connect to the web/TS just minutes before a league race is about to start, you can't expect people to be talkative to you. That is not rudeness of them.

You are welcome to join us on our next race on Monday, you have plenty of time to ask your doubts and receive any needed help.

Quote from ABCode :It's no surpise LFS is completely dead when even organized events are not organized in any sensible way. 2017 season has begun. Only members from **** 2002 are allowed to join in because they were told how the joining process works? The reasons to continue playing this game are pretty much non-existent at this point

Excuse me? If you have any doubt you are free to ask.

Why complain before asking for help? (if you need any, at this point I'm not sure you are even talking about Cesav)

Why do people like to open so many threads in the bug section without doing a bit of research?

You are 9 years late, plus it was actually worse in previous versions.

Quote from lucaf :thanks mate, I made it, very nice website organization and nice events. Are events organized in english language?

Website and InSim text are translated to English (albeit it is not as good as in Spanish due to technical limitations) so you should be fine to understand what is happening.

Anyway, you can always rely that people will help you through the chat (in game or at Cesav's webpage), so you should be fine.

johneysvk and Gutholz have already raced with us a bunch of times. I don't think they had too much trouble understanding everything, but we are always open to suggestions to make it better.

Quote from taipalsaari :I do not see any reason to lock the FPS on any game (other than screen tearing). You will always be better with more FPS, there is a huge difference between 100 locked fps and 300-400.Counter-strike runs at 60hz, but do you see anyone locking their fps to 60?
You will actually get more input lag when you lower your fps intentionally. If you have screen tearing get a 144hz monitor.

Clearly you don't know enough of how graphic/game engines works. Not that it is a bad thing.

LFS operates at 100Hz (this includes graphics and physics. I'm not 100% positive but I believe it also includes inputs). This means that having more 100fps is not really possible. Your graphics card will render all the frames that it can, but as LFS' graphics loop hasn't iterated yet, you will only get the same duplicated frame. As Cargame says, you get a hotter and noisy card, and a bigger e-pennis (I unlocked the fps years ago and never locked them again :facepalmSmile. In LFS you get input lag if you lock your frames below 100fps, for sure. If the input read is higher than that, your steering wheel polls at 500Hz, so that would be your limit.

Of course, other engines work in a quite different way. Some of them don't even run at a fixed rate and deal with delta times instead of Hz.

Quote from Shirtkicker :It not easy to do - most physics simulation works with what is sometime referred to as 'zero-point calculation'. This means that the world and all of the action taking place is contained in an easily computable area. The further away from the zero-point you get, the more unpredictable and slower the physics become - hence the max-size restrictions given in other moddable sims.

Open world physics have to work in different ways, as the distances involved wouldn't work with a fixed zero-point, and it's probably also the reason the cars in open-world games are utter pigs to drive...

Disclaimer: I'm not a programmer, and I don't really have any idea how Scawen has coded his engine. This is only a simple breakdown of the systems from other sims that I've attempted making tracks for...

LFS' Autocross objects split 1 byte into "integer part" and "decimal part", instead of using the normal method. Hence, when you are too far off the zero-point you lose lots of precision.

I think this is a good example of what you are explaining, and it doesn't even include the physics part.

*I may be somewhat wrong, but I'm close enough to the real thing (I hope)

Quote from MicroSpecV :What..? That he won't bother? Big Eye

Exactly, this is one of those bugs that have been in the game since the beginning.
Same thing goes for another bug, where you can press Shift+R to vote restart race and you get a frame of backwards facing camera. I even got told it doesn't happen Ya right

The glitch bothers some people more than others, it depends on driving style. For me it is horrible, I've got times of having 3 miss-shifts in a single upshift. As you say this can get pretty dangerous if the race is packed.

This has been in LFS since... always?

This is just an example from a thread from 2016, I'm sure you'll find a ton more reports about this issue.

Quote from Whiskey :Don't worry, this bug has been in LFS since forever, it has been reported many years ago with no official answer...

You can reproduce it very easily using the FO8, upshifting to 3rd gear while on rev-limiter. It has something to do with the torque the engine produces and the air resistance, you can also see it on Kyoto oval trying to upshift to the car's top gear.

It is also quite related to your driving style, I can get it several times in a row (specially useful at race start when you get passed by everyone...) while other people hardly ever hit the required conditions.
