Rendering has nothing to do with how powerful your graphics card is, it's all CPU power, it's all calculations though..
Either way, 15 FPS is hardly playable, I don't even consider mid 30s an enjoyment zone.

I prefer no vsync and a faster FPS anyday, but that's just me, ripping isn't that big of a deal to me
I try and juice out every frame I can, and if it means getting one or two rips every 10 minutes or so..

UFR/XFR race, I do not recall how many laps, I think the race was either 45-60 minutes long, obviously had to pit.
To keep my lapttimes going I was eating the tires and then cooling them for a few laps just trying to keep a steady pace and fast time down (hard to be fast and easy on the tires on those little gtrs!) There were about 10 of us on the track, I was in 6th place with two of them just under half a lap in front of me, and another guy a good lap or so behind me.
We were nearing the end of the race, fuel was low but plenty to finish the other two in front decided to go for an optional third pit stop, I opted not to, I gained a good place infront of the other two guys as they apparently had damage or otherwise and took a little longer pit, getting down with like 10 minutes left, my tires are glowing read, there is not much tread left but seems like enough to make it..
Timers go orange indicating the race is finished, this is the final lap..
By the time I got to the back chicane I was getting hesitant with the other two pushing very fast laptimes while I kept getting flat spots on my tires that just kept getting worse and worse, especially with almost no tread left. This time the tread gave way.
Lost outside rear tire, it was hard to drive but I could keep it going, made it to final turns, the two guys I passed are catching up fast. Front outside goes, I was done for...
After an hour long race in mini GTRs..

its worse because the color and contrast and its a bit slower for serious gamers with a need to have 'top of the line' junk.
I didn't say it was worse..
They can be finicky though, and some people don't prefer them over real monitors (like me)
mip bias, its in graphics, actually I think you put them all the way to the right
textures it says compressed or full, choose compressed.
also go to misc settings and raise the user LOD (or lower, I cant remember if its backwards or not)
also turn off the sky (draw sky set to off)
turn visible trees off.
that should get you up a good bit.

are your LOD settings all the way down and mipmap down? mipmap can make like 10 FPS difference!

I remember back when I started playing demo in July 03 I was dealing with like 18fps on average, it was miserable! Then I got interested in people saying how you can really only 'see' 25FPS but even that isn't true you can actually see a difference all the way up to 100FPS @60hz.. good times. Then I got a different graphics cards and I averaged like.. mid/low 30s FPS, even that was annoying. Then I got my laptop and it runs at 60FPS flat. But.. I would much rather buy a new computer or something for my car than spend $500 for a top of the line graphics cards in laptops from... 4 years ago.. yes it's about 1000% more powerful than mine but.. not worth the money!

it's to slow all the response times down to make the movie look normal and smooth, if they played the movies at those FPS but in a bright room, it would be very easy to tell the difference in FPS.
Same with hz and refresh rates, check them in your peripheral where your eyes are most sensitive to light and movement, and you can see a hella difference between them all. I can at least.

These Indy cars are 14ms apart.. It is noticeable.

Sony's top end Bravia lineup ($1000+) has response still twice what LCD monitors are, at 8 to 10 ms, most LCD HD TVs have response times like you say at 25ms, which is .. a LOT.

They are also restricted to 60hz refresh rate unless you spend like $500 for a 120hz model, but even then, they are also limited to their response times (which can be okay, to VERY BAD), and for the most part unless you plan on spending seriously $500 don't have good contrast nor colors as compared to today's LCD monitors.. which.. are typically far higher than 1080p, just don't have an internal tv system put in them.

Wrong.. the cheapest alienware desktop you can buy is only $799, and it comes with a dual core AMD 2.7ghz, and a new nVidia GTS250, and only 2GB of ram, an alienware instead of Asus mobo, same PSU, etc.
As for your TV, I hope you DO realize that hooking up to an HDTV isn't and never will be as good as a monitor right?

its your material for the glass, don't make it reflect 100%
make it reflect somewhere like 33% or something like that.
and turn down the refraction to 1.01 or 1.02 max.
Also turn down the brightness of the lights you have in the headlights and foglights, they're waaaay to bright and are blown out and just look weird in the render.

Honestly, after going through Dell, Alienware, and iBUYPOWER, that machine is a pretty good deal price wise.
It costs about $300 more brand new from alienware's/dell's website with what is in it.
Plus it has that Asus mobo to allow SLi graphics cards.
I personally would say.. you can either wait until you actually really need a computer.. or buy it
But then don't forget you also have to get a monitor.
Or you can buy it for me seeing the shipping time will only take 1 day
I need to get a power desktop for churning at renders and big files, my laptop will never keep up, and I would much rather deal with something hard to cary around, than pay $2000+ for the same stuff in a laptop.

At the rate games have been going, I would say if you want great FPS meaning 50+ on top of the line games with full settings on high, I would say top of the line graphics cards last you .. 2.5 years is my guess..
