Old timer friend from here RockyZ got me on facebook and told me about this game.
Watched the video, tried the demo on my laptop for 5 minutes at like 15fps, and then bought and downloaded the game to my desktop and have played it a few times with an xbox controller.

Minus the huge amount of bugs, it is a lot of fun and worth the money to have some fun out of it, I am very much looking forward to how this game expands.

Quote from sinbad :I think this needs to be reigned in before these rants become abusive because it's pointless to start speculating about what's true and what isn't. Whatever is happening accusations won't get us anywhere.

Agreed, and certainly don't take my posts the wrong way, I do not mean to be aggressive or forward in any sense, only to point out the evidence others seem to wisp off as though "well... we could wait just a little bit longer." As the "bit longer" is well beyond due hahaha

For those with language barriers; don't take my posts the wrong way or negatively as that is not my intention.

The point I want to cross as others have said is...

LFS was dreamed to be big, and fair enough too, and still has all of the potential, but lack of communication and "help" (in any form) has devoured the great expanse this game could [have] be[en].

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Except there are updates, just not the ones most wait for. Dedicated server update to allow us to run servers easier in Linux (which is the predominant environment for servers). Patch E added protection against various hacks (or tried, as I'm under the impression people have broken it again).

(TL: DR at bottom)

Well... yeah I mean might as well as old as the game is now?? Can't expect it to be all dandy after like 8 years of no updates with people on the internet from then to now.

LFS is freaking PHENOMENAL when it comes to online experience as far as lag goes; always has been, and still pretty much beats anything else out there.

That portion seriously didn't need to be updated much if any.

Spend the time and effort on things that will bring more customers, not.. make happy people... more happy?

Shall we check what the last few updates on the websites have been?
Nov 2012: We are still working on the new tyre physics and additional content
Dec 2011: Eric has been working on the S3 content.
Dec 2010: Eric has been working on some more S3 content but he would like to get nearer to finishing before we show any new pictures.
Nov 2009: It is compatible with version Z, so does not contain the new tyre physics or the VW Scirocco.
Oct 2009: does not contain the new tyre physics or the VW Scirocco. We are working to get those things to you as soon as possible
Dec 2008: We are sorry to have to announce that the VW Scirocco will not be released this week as planned
Dec 2008: We are pleased to announce that we plan to release the new VW Scirocco in Live for Speed during the week ending Friday 19th December.
Jul 2008: New interiors in XF and XR cars (road and GTR)
Should I note... the FZ interior and UF interior are STILL not done?!
Dec 2007: New car - Formula BMW FB02
Dec 2007: We are pleased to announce that there will be a new patch before Christmas
They stayed true to that one at least?
Jun 2007: The number of cars that can join a race has been increased to 32
Mar 2007: The new car sounds, created by DaveWS
Dec 2006: compatible with more computers, including those running Windows Vista.
Jun 2005: S2 released

2007 (aka the year I graduated high school) was a good year because so much was happening and we were getting updates.

Nearing in on 7 years later...
Not much else has happened.

Eric has "worked" a few times. Still no pictures of any progress on that.
Cars are still missing interiors.
No real updates have been made but the same worthless pictures of a 3d model which anyone that knows how to use a 3d program could've easily made up in 5 minutes to show off.

TL: DR
In case you're lost on this rant of mine, or TL: DR, We haven't seen a real update since 2008. Everything since there has done nothing for the community but give them a version that's a bit more stable on Linux when it doesn't matter anymore because half the community left.... when they went in to college back in 2008 like me... And are now all graduated, have jobs, likely have families, etc.

The game is dead to me; has been for a long time.

In the graphic industry we always refer to this common saying:
Wish in one hand and shit in the other; see which fills up first.

The last iota of anything we saw from Eric was 2008.
To say he's been working on "content" for the past 5 years and isn't willing to 'show' any of it until it's done is complete bull shit.

Well usually for most games being developted they say a new patch is being worked on blah blah, when they get into testing phases of the patch they say hey we're testing it. When they find they just have a few things to button up they say hey the patch will be out in a week.

Then if the users find a bug, then the developers fix it, send out a patch within a week and everyone is happy.
At least that's how I've seen it between Kerbal Space Program and Automation.

Clearly... staying in the dark has cost the game... to be updated anymore.

Stubborn or abused either way... He's old enough to get over it. There are plenty of a-holes on the internet and that's nothing new. Only thing "new" about is they're called trolls these days.

Go take a real art class, he can get over that problem real fast lol! Especially when you watch 3 or 4 classmates in a group of 20 walk out crying after a first critique because the teacher is so hard to thicken your skin on purpose!

Not everything in this world is dandy.

This would be a better car than an LX8... or an ariel atom-like car.

That said.
This is an Exomotive car, which the father company is in Britain, and they still have been shipping a lot of the parts where they are sold as kits here.. right around the corner from my home. Soon however they'll be making their own full kits and will have all the proper tooling to do it.

Anyways, they made a race car for Global Time Attack which was to be raced at VIR. It... actually went on a flight last night as well.

But, it's a Miata everything, underneath. Difference with this was is it used the entire Flyin' Miata turbo kit.

They also picked up some Car of Tomorrow NASCAR wings. Front looks goofy but.. the car is awesome. I still haven't driven one of the normal ones but ... you can look at it and KNOW that it's fun.

Quote from BlueFlame :Please explain because the suspension geometry affecting setup parameters on LFS is one of the best things about it. I can't think of a game that does it as well as LFS does but that's the reason I ask you to explain because I don't think I'm understanding what you mean.

While it may work fine on some models, the McPherson strut is beyond completely wrong. Also take note of every setup in LFS. Pretty much slammed to the ground (or rather... low as possible until you hit the ground). In the real world, it doesn't work like that at all. On some suspension models it may work, but to make full use of it still requires specific parts such as roll angle adjusters, which are real parts that are really made.

BUT.. again I'm learning as I go here and haven't looked beyond anything in the game except the McPherson strut. Typically or rather in EVERY McStrut car you find the arm is just above or near pointed up towards the center of the car. As the arm flattens out the mcstrut has a very small (but some) gain in camber. Anywhere beyond that it goes major positive.

To prove that point, look at just about every FWD or other mcstrut race car and look how high they truly sit. (Don't look at the tube frame chassis race cars.. the ones that actually use the monobody instead). You'll see they sit just as high or nearabouts of the stock cars because that's the only place they can sit without major modification to either the knuckle, or the subframe (both of which can be doable, but it's a bit rare to see on "stock" race cars).

The McStrut in LFS continues to gain camber no matter how low you go; which is 100% inaccurate. There are also plenty of other changes in caster etc. that go into changing that height as well, which I don't believe is calculated either.
The fastest McStrut FWD cars in LFS right now are the lowest ones with lowest CG and beyond improper suspension geometry.
In the real world you'll see every FWD McStrut car is nearabouts stock height that wins AutoX and trackdays... because they have to remain near stock height to get the best out of the suspension arms.

Quote from sinbad :I agree with you, though. There are many more viable alternatives, and why any newbie with a credit card would even consider LFS now is sadly a bit hard to work out. I recall thinking that user generated tracks would be bad for LFS, but that was when there was the prospect of actually getting more tracks from the devs.

Project fell way to far behind and everything else like iRacing, Rfactor, Simraceway, etc. etc. caught up and took over before any worthy progress was.. even shown off.

Remember back in the days when LFS was "it" and they brought out sims and stuff to shows and racetracks and people played it? (PreS2).

LFS is old. I think it's safe to say we've all lost track of time. Last thing I remember when I was hanging around was Scawen just had a kid and was working on his kitchen. That was probably 8 years ago now...

On the other topic of user created stuff.
I think it would still have been very wise for the devs (to make some extra cash with little to no effort), release an open version for sale, give it a different code name (LFS Open? I don't know..), and run it like an app store these days; where there are "developers" that have to pay specific fees to create things for the game.

Devs could 'hire' some moderators to review the work, and if it was good enough it could be put online hosted on the master server available for download or otherwise.

Would it make the game a bit more difficult to play online with? Absolutely.

But look at Grand Prix Legends? That game is friggen 15 years old now and still has one HELL of a user backing, and all the stuff still being made for it is nothing but amazing.
Yes it is an old game with old graphics etc.
But at least you can wring a bit more fun out of it. LFS just gets to boring. The only time I play with LFS nowadays is when I need to test something out (until I discovered suspension geometry in this game is.. nothing like the real world)

From my eyes.. the devs let the project slip out of their original vision.

LFS still has a chance to be good again. But it's going to take way more than just a few tracks and cars. They need to bust ass and bring it up to date. The game is also over a decade old.

The way I honestly see it?
The devs need to wise up and sell the damn game to someone willing to invest in it and let it keep growing.
How many people stick around this forum these days? As old as the game is.. absolutely plenty. And I can guarantee a few know a bit about coding and would have 0 issue pushing this project and making some money where it's at.

Look at Automation?
Based off some old games from the early 90s that no one ever tried to make again, now it's two guys that have managed to make a semi living from working on with enough interest. And all they get to do is learn MORE by doing what they're doing.

The last 'real' news we got was almost 2 years ago now.

I have nothing against the devs, never have and probably never will, but from where I stand, their position on communication, updates, etc. are 100% rubbish compared to what it should be.

It honestly angers me a bit on the inside... to know that they know that they've worked on a game for so long, haven't said much to ALL of the followers on here, and expect everyone to cling on for juuuuust a bit longer.

S1 came out in 2003 which was right about when I found out about the game.
S2 came out in 2005.

We expected a rally pack or S3 by 2008, then when that didn't happen 2009.

Here we are, 2013. The devs remain quiet as there are so many people standing around that it's obnoxious.

Why does it piss me off so much? I am an administrator over at Mazda3forums, and watched the forum and the community DIE; LITERALLY fall apart when the forum went down for a few days. It devastated the community, and only a few of us (literally a few at this point despite it growing rapidly) are still around. Activity is less than 10% nowadays even a year later after that happened.

We lost nearly all of our sponsors.
And because of that we lost a lot of any aftermarket interest in the base.

The moment this game slips and the community is lost, it will be a mark on our hard drive we may play for 5 minutes one day per year if that.

The developers have NO idea how amazing it is that this massive community is still around.
They seriously should take a look around and see what they have sitting here.

When I joined I was in middle school. I asked my father to buy S1 for me because I had no way to pay for it.

Now I am out of college and have a full time job, and have spent countless money on my car.
The devs are absolutely blind to not see that if they release a few tracks and cars for a fee how much money they could make. In fact it's almost STUPID that they can't see it.

To knock this point out of the park; how many here have a smart phone running android or ios?
How many stupid games have you paid money for to spend 5 minutes playing?

Think about how much money those guys are making that are making those games?

If the devs produced 3 cars and 2 tracks.
I guarantee they could make a few thousand dollars in a single week.
And that's f*&%ing worth it if you ask me.

I don't think I've ever seen that Audi before, that is awesome looking!

Sorry I'm no longer around here anymore guys (I know I say it every time too lol but I am.) I touched LFS a few times the past few months only to discover.... LFS doesn't calculate suspension geometry one bit which is rather depressing.

Anyways, I probably haven't shown much pictures in the past year so here's the quick update:

I've been low, it was fun and looked great.
Time to make it handle for real.

Thanks

Yeah she's gotten some hate over the years for people thinking I'm just doing for looks but they don't understand how long I plan on using it lol.

I've got a lot of cool little things planned to do on it this year.
But between now and the next track day I'm trying to tweak my suspension a bit more because I just feel like I didn't get all the tires could give, despite being at the edge with them, I just feel like I should've been able to get far more grip out of them. I think pressure could've done a lot, but suspension wise I just want to get into the nitty gritty even more, and LFS will hopefully shine and show me the way

I've recently found myself testing suspension setups on LFS a bit more on autocross for my own car; I wish LFSTweak was still around to actually make my car, so I can get down into the nitty gritty.

I too have LITERALLY grown up with LFS, it is sad though to see it barely progress over the past many years.
I've been here for a decade come next month, it's pretty crazy to be able to say that and see this forum still semi thrive.

Unfortunately I'm not around much anymore and I am indeed sorry for that. With a full time job and being out of college and becoming an administrator on mazda3forums I don't have much time to look around and don't get to touch video games to much anymore.

Like a dyno sheet?

It isn't impressive LOL!

Externally I've done pretty much everything I can but internally it's still completely stock. I can still get lightweight pulleys but meh...

Dyno wise I'm only putting down like around 20hp more than stock and like 5 more torque at best haha

Stock the 2.3 hatch is only 160 to the crank and we lose way to much; so around stock we put down mid 130 range hp/tq

I did some of those back in 2008 It was when I was teaching myself how to use Illustrator. I tried it back in 07 but failed miserably so gave up for like 6 or so months and went back at it. Did some other stuff but.. yeah, it was kinda fun. Actually, the TVR was done partially in vector, and all the shading was painted in photoshop
